You have to start at your natural pitch where your voice is comfortable before exercising your vocal folds to perform in your higher and lower registers. The stylistic choices Mariah Carey makes are also abusive to her vocal folds. The breathy sound strains the vocal folds and over time will damage them. She would definitely benefit by relying on twang to assist her belting. I love Mariah Carey but the fact of the matter is she isn't being healthy with her voice. Vocal folds are delicate and was they are damaged they can't be repaired. Look after your voice!
