I've once seen a cat running full speed chased by a big dog.. outran him for probably 200m, then went up a tree and just sat looking at him.. It was just as fast as a hare, and Ive had cats who brought home hares as prey... Just amazed at being able to watch it like this, cats usually need a reason to run.. :)
And yet the head never moved, a hydraulically stabilized weapons platform maintaining target lock. Like watching the barrel of an M1 Abrams tank as it charges across a battlefield.
I’ve seen a video comparing a running cheetah with a running greyhound, and the cheetah was the same way. Only the legs moved, the spine flexed to give that spring, the tail was almost motionless. The greyhound, on the other hand, looked like every part of its body was trying to go in a different direction and only its skin kept things in a loose formation. I don’t know how they’re so fast with all that wasted energy.
How is it possible that a 400 pound lion can run faster than this !? It's mind boggling. Here in the U.S. we have Puma or Mountain Lion in the wild. Around 10,000 of them. Sadly they kill people sometimes. When they or any feline stalks a human, the human only hears something a half a second before a 175 pound cat of all muscle pounces on you. The videos of encounters with hikers in Canada and the U.S. are scary. The one guy said he heard rustling or twig crack behind him and when he turned to look the mountain lion was already mid air claws and fangs bared and just a few feet from him before making contact. They say those cats kill humans by a bite to the skull !!!

Jen se je snažím usměrňovat. Nechci, aby dělaly něco za odměnu, za nějakou mňamku. Tím bych je ošálil, i když přiznám, někdy není zbytí Ale to hlavní je vybudovat vztah založený na vzájemné důvěře a respektu.

Cheetah leg muscle biopsies have generated over 100watts/kilo in tests, that's a horsepower every 7 pounds, and that was a from an ill animal (hence the biopsy). Selection hasn't really altered this formula since it first diverged about 37 million years ago, and if you stood a Smilodon from 2.5 million years ago next to a Barbary lion, aside from the outlandish canines, shorter tail and raised shoulders; everything down to muscle attachment points and bone aspect ratios would be basically identical. Is it any wonder that when cats do a cat, they all look the same catting?
