There should still be some around in July, if Puffin is your target then I would suggest Flamborough Head (only 15 minutes from Bempton) it has far more Puffin nesting than Bempton and often at Bempton the Puffin nest further down the cliffs out of sight from the platforms 👍🏻

Hi Dan, I went to Bempton cliffs on Monday and I took your advice, got there early and wind was onshore. The gannets done exactly the same as you had in this video, coming in over my head before hanging in the wind. I took some of the best photos ever with my z8 and 400tc. The puffins were lower down the cliffs but not too worried as I’m off to skomer in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Andy I really appreciate that.
The puffins start to appear from the end of April and the peak is mid June. I would suggest that if you are travelling to the area then give Flamborough Head a look, it is usually more productive for Puffins as they tend to nest lower down at Bempton out of the view from the platforms.
As for cameras, if you are looking for a good camera I would consider going second hand and looking for a Nikon D500. It's a fantastic camera for wildlife and is a bargain secondhand. Combine this with the Nikon 500mm pf lens and you have a fantastic outfit for a reasonable cost.

Great footage of the puffins too mate, I've never seen them up on the tops at Bempton, so well done on that. If anything, that's the one thing I don't like about Bempton - the fact that you're always shooting down onto the birds on the ledges; excepting the birds in flight of course.

North for Puffins, but if that is all I’m trying to get I do tend to favour Flamborough head over Bempton.
