I did not expect that I would like any rom-com, anime or otherwise. I only started watching this series because of the Chika dance meme, and I wanted to find out what the craze was all about and know the context. I pretty much immediately got hooked on this show, even before I got to the Chika dance. It's incredible, and it just gets better. It became one of my top animes of all time. It does so many things very well, but the humor is where it really shines to me. I've heard it said that the best drama comes from comedies, and the best comedy comes from dramas. This show knows how to reach for those highs and lows, so the swing is more deeply felt. Honestly, some of the best anime I've ended up discovering were just because of weird memes I saw online and got curious about. I started watching a lot of slice-of-life anime, which I previously had not been interested in, because of random stuff I saw people posting as react gifs and whatnot. I started out with anime being very much into deeply philosophical, more serious stuff. It's definitely good to branch out and try other genres.
You guys are advanced in the Patreon so before watching S3 don't forget to watch the S3 trailer, it is a half episode free on TH-cam, also there is an OVA and I will recommend it but I will not force you to watch it, if you are uncomfortable with fan service, even though the show does it in a very comedic way.

This anime is about enjoying two people who are proud and find it hard to ask if they want to go out with the other person, and it shows which one of them can no longer bear it and goes for kokuhaku. In Japan, kokuhaku is something that takes courage.
While I am usually a huge proponent of subbed, this show might be one of the few cases I'd argue the dub is better. The voices are good and the narrator is god tier. Either way is good though and yall use whatever works better.
Yeah the one makes a lot of people love this anime is the relatability. I'm aware there are some exaggerated part like super rich family, ultra genius students, but what that just a gimmick. The main selling of this is the overthinking of liking someone and a lot of people can relate to that
Kaguya Sama is definitely romance but also very much comedy focused too, a lot of romance anime can be "mushy" but a lot of them are also just about the human experience and growing as a person (Horimiya, Fruits Basket or Given comes to mind for coming of age stories, there's also a few that centers around adults and are great, Wotakoi is a popular one!)
I have a sneaking suspicion you both are going to love this series. Just to address one of your concerns (as lightly as possible), there's definitely depth, even if you have to keep an eye out for it in some cases.

The amazing thing about Kaguya is of course that it gets better and better. Looking back at season 1, I would probably only give like 7/10 or even 6/10 for any episodes just because how good season 2 and especially season 3 is.
So just to clarify, Kaguya Sama IS A SHONEN. Shonen is just the intended demographic, around middle to highschool age males. It sounds like what they initially viewed as shonen is just a subset, Battle Shonen.
@@leywineralith2308 my only problem with konosuba is that it's a comedy and doesn't really have a story to it besides the MC goes to another world basically isekai and then there's no real story to it besides him forming a team of useless people who don't really have any skills and the they do side quests. Rather than being strong in another world, it's like a bunch of weak characters in another world doing really easy side quests. To me it felt boring because there wasn't a well written story to really make it that good or interesting. The jokes are basically just parody of isekai / anime cliches. Maybe to someone who hasn't seen much anime this is good but to me i've seen gintama and heaps of comedy anime and it gets old really quickly and was pretty boring to me. Without a strong story to keep the anime worth watching all you have is jokes. I feel like konosuba only got popular because of cosplay only, lets be honest nobody thought the anime was good it's just popular because everyone cosplays as megumin & aqua

But due to other characters' "bad luck", he often crosses paths with enemies and horrible situations. The show's popularity is due to the masterful performances of the voice acting talent, as they brought the characters to life.
kaguya sama for me is the best romcom, not sure if the best romance or the best comedy, but combined is the best for sure. I love this show and the manga

Well, though this is a romance anime the "war" part of it almost makes it a shounen lol All the psychological "battles" are way too fun Then of course we get to the good part, where that is less of a thing and we focus more on character development
You guys should've watched " My dress up darling or The dangers in my heart" and then this(Kaguya-sama). This show is full of comedy and you'll only get see diabetic scene in last 4 episodes
