They're both really good. Another channel I enjoy a lot is Console Wars (levelonerules), who pit SNES and Sega Genesis versions of games against one another. Very hammy stuff yet very neat.
AVGN is good for belly laughs. Mark's sense of humor is drier and more refined. The fact that he plays department store elevator music in the background while playing frenetic old shooter games on the Genesis is hilarious, and you don't even have to laugh to enjoy it.
AVGN & CGR are the ORIGINAL youtube gamers going back to 5 PLUS yrs... The rest of the newer guys i find annoying, especially that "AngryJoe" guy or whatever his name is.. I tried watching him a few times and i never could stick around more then a few minutes, he s so fucking annoying starts yelling out of nowhere and his sound is unbalanced , sure AVGN yells alot, but he does it with style and not cheesyness and bad sound. AVGN & CGR - TH-cam legends.
Awesome to see Mark reviewing this. James has explained that the only reason the character drinks Rolling Rock is because it was the only beer he had around when he started filming.
before CGR there was nothing. The fact that by the time the TH-cam channel went online, Mark already had a solid body of work as far as game reviews. My generation was there when the internet took off and we looked to these gen x pioneers to be cultured as gamers. Born in 88 i remember vividly the tail end of the games of their youth and the entire 90s.
Mark the reason it's Rolling Rock, is cause it was what James had in his refrigerator at the time when he first started making videos, and it stuck, which he explained in a behind the scenes video, and he could have used a worse beer like Bud or BudLight, but he has said he usually drinks better beer when not doing videos, but I actually like Rolling Rock myself for a cheap beer, when it's hot out.
The sequel should be called "Mark and James: Excellent Adventure." The beer bottles will be changed to Mark's personal favorites. He will be holding an 8-bit Sega Master system gun for his weapon on the side scrolling stages. On the driving stages, the El Camino!!
I love how there's all these games that claim to be "8-Bit" but look like they're early Genesis/Mega-Drive games or PC-Engine/Turbo Grafx-16 games with NES style music.
It's awesome seeing people bridge that gap and actually include others of the same category to boost one another rather than only seeking self ego stroking. What ever happened of that AVGN movie anyway? I seen trailers over on GameTrailers website but that was it.
>be subscribed to both CGR and Cinemassacre for several years >check subscriptions >Classic Game Room - Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures >click instinctively without a thought > ...... wait >... wat??
I'm a subscriber of both, and my TH-cam page was open as I did something else, and the title somehow caught my eye even though I wasn't looking at it, and a bunch of calculations started running in my head that something was not right. AVGN and CGR in the same title.
Agreed, or a STEAM game where Lord Karnage drives an El Camino that had flamethrowers on the front, in a racing type came where u have to mow down monster, and people who run onto the track, and Heyzoos, Derek, and Edit Station one can all be playable as well.
It's a bit disappointing that it doesn't look like AVGN can be able to tranform into a powered-up version of himself wearing all of his NES and SNES accessories like a suit just like in that one episode.
I read he just had that particular beer laying around when he made a video; it's not that it's his favorite or the only beer he drinks. thanks for the review. the game looks like a lot of fun !
For the first time I have to disagree with you. I love my rolling rock. Even though it doesn't come from the glass-lined tanks of old Latrobe anymore. Don't worry. I'll stay subscribed to CGR!!
As a game developer I believe every video games, should convince of its quality before someone decides to pay for it. Any sequel can suck, any one company can make disappointing games as well. Absolute loyalty is foolish. If you want quality, you have to vote with your wallet and stop paying full price or even preorder less than great games.
CGR reviews AVGN! I foresee two possibilities. One, this review will be awesome. Or two, the encounter could create a time paradox. The results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe!... Granted, that's the worst-case scenario. The destruction however might be limited merely to our own galaxy
My computer is an old ass machine.. What system specs do I need for AVGN? Cause I think I might buy it if its not bad. Cause it sorta looks possible here based on the graphics and such.
CGR comments do pretty well for themselves now, but reviewing the AVGN game haha I expect the comments to be pretty rapid here. From my viewing of this game it really seems like it could have been better. The music is the best part imo. That was great though that Mark referenced the beer moment in the 5200 console. A definitive moment of the show.
Dude, it's an internet joke. I wasn't even serious, you have the right to have an opinion. I was only making fun of those that say that sort of thing just because someone does not share the same opinion as the majority. No hard feelings.
"Not so sure what i think about all these images of puss and other bodily fluid being spewed into my ears, that's just kinda weird." Had me laughing for a good 5 minutes.
Well it is amusing seeing a TH-cam channel about video do a review on another channel's own video game. Game doesn't look bad, and a good pick to showcase this indie game.
c'mon Mark..i can tell you just really want your own CGR Mark Truxton,El Camino,Lord Carnage, real ale reality simulator 900,vectrex style pinball game...one day it will be so
the ironic thing is that they're the direct opposite, a game needs to be really bad in order for CGR to complain while it just needs to be generic at best for AVGN
Anybody here enjoy both Mark (aka Classic Game Room) and James (AVGN) equally? I know I do. I can't get enough of either's videos.
Daltin Loomis i love both of them, they're really great.
I love both the avgn and your show so this is 2 of my favourite things
Funny thing is Mark and AVGN are opposites. Mark is super-chill and AVGN is so frustrated. They would make a great Buddy Comedy!
Lord Karnage should guest star on an episode of AVGN
Agreed
That would be just awesome.
Yes! It would lend AVGN an air of legitimacy.
(ducks)
+Michael Thompson (hoards of AVGN fanboys come screaming towards you)
KKsHaDoWx ikr

+Denis I Darn right dude.
Savage. But to be serious you are right about angry joe.
omg I feel the same way
Iam84 AVGN doesn't scream as much as he calmy describes the game he is playing or offers retrospectives
"He's going to take you back to the past..."
to play the shitty games that suck ass.
He's the angriest gamer you've ever heard
He's the Angry Nintendo Nerd
He's the angry Atari, Sega Nerd.
He's the Angry Video Game Nerd
When you turn on your tv...
Awesome to see Mark reviewing this.
James has explained that the only reason the character drinks Rolling Rock is because it was the only beer he had around when he started filming.
I particularly liked how this guy harped on AVGN's choice of beer. That was genuinely awesome.
I was just going to say that the gameplay was too good to be Mark.
CGR reviewing a game about AVGN... I think a tear in the time/space continuum has formed
Now all we need is a Classic Game Room video game and everything will be complete
indeed, it's trippy seeing one great reviewer review a game about another wonderful reviewer. it's like video-game-ception
Finally, my two favorite TH-cam reviewers have crossed over...sort of.
this game need a mode without the death blocks
Mark, Fun fact time.
James never intended to make that beer one of the trademarks of his character. It just happened.
CGR isn't afraid to mention a competitor, i respect that.
Nothing says Christmas like shittin' chickens.
Its 2 of my favorite youtubers in one
You guys should do a crossover.
I mean, CGR has to be the only youtube video game review show not inspired by AVGN.
Crossover episodes!
before CGR there was nothing.
Well, this is a pleasant surprise to see this reviewed.
5:02 if you look in the corner it will give you proof that he does not live in an intergalactic space arcade
The sequel should be called "Mark and James: Excellent Adventure." The beer bottles will be changed to Mark's personal favorites. He will be holding an 8-bit Sega Master system gun for his weapon on the side scrolling stages. On the driving stages, the El Camino!!
I'm still waiting on my CGR WindSquid game. Must be delayed because of its epicness.
I love how there's all these games that claim to be "8-Bit" but look like they're early Genesis/Mega-Drive games or PC-Engine/Turbo Grafx-16 games with NES style music.
It's time for a CGR , AVGN crossover. Or at least The CGR interview series interviewing James.
5:39 the moon from majora's mask.that's just cool.
It's awesome seeing people bridge that gap and actually include others of the same category to boost one another rather than only seeking self ego stroking. What ever happened of that AVGN movie anyway? I seen trailers over on GameTrailers website but that was it.
For a few seconds, my brain couldn't handle it. TWO TH-cam GAMER CHANNELS HAVE BECOME ONE!
A video of both AVGN and CGR? My dream came true!
I love AVGN, I love CGR; this video was a match made in Heaven as far as I'm concerned. Thank you Jebus!
>be subscribed to both CGR and Cinemassacre for several years
>check subscriptions
>Classic Game Room - Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures
>click instinctively without a thought
> ...... wait
>... wat??
Nice to see that the Outside Simulator 3000 still works
They need to hurry up and put this out on the Wii. This game is definitely my kind of fun, and yes I am a huge James Rolfe fan. : )
Glad that I'm not the only one that acknowledges HVGN, love his work.
I'm a subscriber of both, and my TH-cam page was open as I did something else, and the title somehow caught my eye even though I wasn't looking at it, and a bunch of calculations started running in my head that something was not right. AVGN and CGR in the same title.

He used Rolling Rock because it was the only kind of beer in his fridge when he was filming.
Defending the Intergalactic Space Arcade from sinister Invaders in a shmup would be awesome!
Man Mark you must have the patience of a saint to play this because I could not stomach some of the jokes and super in depth "inside jokes"
It's a bit disappointing that it doesn't look like AVGN can be able to tranform into a powered-up version of himself wearing all of his NES and SNES accessories like a suit just like in that one episode.
Omg! CGR not only talking about avgn, but reviewing his game too???!!!!! My life is complete. Okay, I'm going to watch the rest of the video now.
Its awesome to see CGR and AVGN in the same video
I read he just had that particular beer laying around when he made a video; it's not that it's his favorite or the only beer he drinks. thanks for the review. the game looks like a lot of fun
!
Now we need the AVGN to review Wind Squid!
Mark knows his place, which is in the other side of the screen, with the controller.
I feel like I'm the only person on the internet that likes CGR, AVGN, AND the Irate Gamer?
They're having trouble designing a flying squid with an attached flamethrower that can make beer come out of a Vectrex.
Mark is reviewing a an AVGN game, this is such a weird sensation.
Rolling Rock became a symbol of AVGN without him trying. So, he's kind of stuck drinking it for the Nerd at this point.
For the first time I have to disagree with you. I love my rolling rock. Even though it doesn't come from the glass-lined tanks of old Latrobe anymore. Don't worry. I'll stay subscribed to CGR!!
Yep, I also question the Nerd's taste in beer. Rolling Rock makes Budweiser seem like a quality brew.
a beer to be great only has 2 requisites, they are being made it germany or belgium.
To be fair, the "beer" in the episodes aren't really beer.
CGR should get a Vectrex/Dreamcast game with Lord Karnage, flamethrowers, El Caminos, and also burning people with monsters and cutting them in half.
As a game developer I believe every video games, should convince of its quality before someone decides to pay for it.
Any sequel can suck, any one company can make disappointing games as well. Absolute loyalty is foolish. If you want quality, you have to vote with your wallet and stop paying full price or even preorder less than great games.
Mark reviewing a game starring James. *head explodes from awesomeness*
A CGR game should be something like Outrun with an El Camino with flamethrowers, missiles and obviously, the car needs to transform into Thexder !
I freakin love avgn
I really like the Cheetahmen references haha!
Let's get a CGR game going, Inecom! All Grand Theft Auto style and Wind Squid in action.
I'd love to see a collab.
I suggest finding one you like, instead of just trying to drink what other people like because you like that person.
its Rolling Rock and hes right that beer is so bad it makes miller light taste like heaven
Mark, you knew as well as we did that if you reviewed this game you would get a bazillion views. And what can I say...I clicked on it too.
Rolling Rock is cheap beer that gives me heart burn. While Sierra Nevada gives me invincibility!!
the problem with the game is that the graphics can't be created on the 8-bit consoles.
Couldn't see the full title from the homepage. Wasn't sure if this was a CGR episode about AVGN, or an AVGN episode about CGR. o_O
Or the C.E.O. of LJN,an E.T Atari game cartridge , or a Tiger Electronic Handheld game.
Now it's time to have a CGR game... on the Vectrex!
James Rolfe does tons of other videos. He does AVGN only every few months now.
looks like a fun game. to bad it was not released on PSN or XBLA.
I'm currently working on an indie game that's all about things from Classic Game Room. It's going to be free and simillar to your idea.
If only they can make an Actual NES cartridge of this game.
The CGR game must have a flamethrower mounted in the back of a beige El Camino.
I just finished The game. Then I went to youtube and I saw this. I can not believe it. Amazing!
If AVGN has a game, then Mark should get one, too!
This game is balls to the wall hard. I wonder if anyone has ever beat it without getting Yamchaed.
Dude, it's an internet joke. I wasn't even serious, you have the right to have an opinion. I was only making fun of those that say that sort of thing just because someone does not share the same opinion as the majority. No hard feelings.
"Not so sure what i think about all these images of puss and other bodily fluid being spewed into my ears, that's just kinda weird." Had me laughing for a good 5 minutes.
when game designers can reach Marks awesomeness
This is basically a hack of Jim Power for the SNES
Downloaded this game from Piratebay in 5 seconds and it kicks ass!
Didn't know the game was out allready, great! ... now I really have to replace my broken videocard ... must, play, (that and Volgar the viking).
Well it is amusing seeing a TH-cam channel about video do a review on another channel's own video game. Game doesn't look bad, and a good pick to showcase this indie game.
One more thing you missed. Driving El Caminos!
Should be a homebrow game for the Vectrex then. ;p
It actually looks pretty good. Reminds me of some of the brutal platformers on the NES.
c'mon Mark..i can tell you just really want your own CGR Mark Truxton,El Camino,Lord Carnage, real ale reality simulator 900,vectrex style pinball game...one day it will be so
my guess is that Mark lives by the code - "life is too short for shitty beer"
AVGN and Classic Game Room finally face each other.. amazing isn't it? :)
AVGN is hilarious, but when it comes to beer, it's all about the Yuengling Lager!
I wish James was in this video too :( how epic would that be???
Yet at the same time, you need to drink Rolling Rock to to enjoy the Roll 'n Rocker!
I wonder why Mark doesn't mention the name of the beer.
the ironic thing is that they're the direct opposite, a game needs to be really bad in order for CGR to complain while it just needs to be generic at best for AVGN
I'm guessing the final boss is Super Mecha Death Christ?
Does this game support 4:3 aspect ratios? I'd love to run it through a scan converter to play it in true 240p on a CRT television!
