    This looks so damn fun. There ain’t no boxing gym near me so am stuck with the Internet. Maybe one day eh? I already practise the basics everyday. The stance the jab the cross hook uppercut overhand bobbing slipping blocking. It’s just I don’t have anyone to check if it’s correct or wrong

    This is why most traditional martial arts dojos suck! In boxing you learn by doing and you develop better technique as you actually do it hundreds of times each day in the gym. In karate you are usually forced to show mastery (or near perfection) of a technique before you move on and you dont get nearly enough repetitions. The reason is that culturally speaking TMA originated in Asia where the nail that sticks out gets pounded down..ie, you learn and train as part of a group intead of an individual. Progress in TMA is fucking slow, in boxing its much quicker depending on what YOU put into it.

      Dean Miller That's not totally true, my first 2 days I was told only to work only on stance. I think some basic things should be taught properly first to build something on. Executing a technique wrongly hundred times will build a habit to do it wrong. Just my opinion

    • @debanjandutta2235
      @debanjandutta2235 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dean Miller stfu man,,,, don't talk shit about karate or any kind of martial art,,,, it depends on students and the teachers,,, ok look at this guy,,, he sucks at punching,,, and his coach ain't even correcting him,, karate practitioners are good in long range,,, and we can kick with out taking any steps unlike thai boxers,, and boxers are good in short range,, both are different,,, so think before u say

      Ahhh... the secret to being a good teacher, learn to be encouraging while pointing toward excellent technique. Constant criticism will severely limit someone’s learnability, and your number of students.

    • @singhmaster4
      @singhmaster4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why they are called martial ARTS. NOT EVERY CULTURE (LIKE AMERICAN) RESPECTS FAST AND QUICK SHORTCUTS. THEY RESPECTS DEDICATION. Anybody can learn to kick ass quickly but how many will make it a lifestyles to learn the arts? Plus martial arts is not about kicking ass at all. The real students are usually the most calm and collective not aggressive in nature.

    if i was teaching an orthodox boxing stance i'd say these steps:
    1. stand normal squared straight forward
    2. put feet shoulder width apart
    3. step your left leg forward and as you do you feel a sort of weird twisting sensation in your right leg
    4. when you feel the twisting sensation in your right leg put the entire body into a 45 degree angle
    5. put your right fist up to your right cheek or let it touch it and put your left arm facing your opponent
    6.keep your chin down so you are looking through your eye brow
    if you are southpaw do the exact opposite, if you watch tengoose boxing gym's you tube video they will say the same thing

    Too fast.A begginer must first must create a perfect footwork and then start working his hands,at list thats my coaching.You made him care about to many things for first time like footwork,defense,hands,distance.Hitting pads the first day at the gym?Whats the meaning except keep him satisfied as a client?

    • @mikiszezas5983
      @mikiszezas5983 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Mike Tyson When i started boxing before 17 years my coach for three months teached me only footwork, at my first national championship i became champ. Footwork, boxing stance its the most important thing. As a coach i never teaching them any punch before the stance become perfect. The basics make the difference.

    • @mikiszezas5983
      @mikiszezas5983 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mike Tyson Maintain the perfect stance always to every side of the ring isnt so easy. The perfect stance must be the same as the space between our shoulders, nothing more nothing less. Only then we can punch as hard as we can. Only then we can stand a hard counter. Thats my opinion my friend.

    • @rsfolga
      @rsfolga 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, when learning the basics you take it slow and don't overwhelm them with too much detail. However one of the first things I teach is to have your wrist straight and not bent like that. That's a dangerous habit to make and I like to constantly correct it

    • @jimmyroddenberry952
      @jimmyroddenberry952 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I spend about 30 mins telling them I know it's a lot and I don't expect you to get it all in one day or tomorrow but if I don't correct it and it goes on it becomes a habit and it's much harder to break a bad habit than correct it from the beginning and you'll get tired of hearing it as I get tired of saying it but when someone hears you box and ask you to show them something I want it to be correct . Then I tell them a bunch of things like not scissoring their legs , to think of their hand and arm has a rod attached to it not allowing it to bend. You can turn it but it don't bend. These knuckles hurt them these knuckles hurt you and much more again trying to show why it is this way and we start . One thing that never fails is first time on mitts no matter how much you say nice and easy they almost all try to kill it as if you're going to say omg what power you have. In truth I usually say . I said nice and easy and punch the center of the mitt not my wrist. Haha

      Sometimes in athletic "teaching" you need to allow a beginner (especially a young kid) the freedom to figure out how his body moves. He gave him the basics and let him work - then you go and correct. You don't just keep correcting from the get go (unless its a safety issue).
      Then again, I forgot I am probably talking to Teddy Atlas here typing away criticizing people online

  • @sabirsal
    @sabirsal 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That kid has zero coordination, be it in his feet or body. My only real problem with what Brandon is doing is the one big beef I have with most boxing trainers:
    They only teach basic footwork and then go right to punches/mitts. Defense should be taught day one. What good is even one boxing lesson if you still can’t duck, slip, or block a punch.
