      the thing about the maths thing is you can estimate it really fast. 23*4 is a bit under 100, so it has to be less than 4, but we only want 19 less than 100, so its gotta be 3

    • @goosewoman
      @goosewoman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100 - 19 = 81, and then there''s 2 methods of doing the 81/27. one that uses guesstimation based on the round numbers to get to the answer quickly, and one that you can do when you've internalized the tables.
      You can guess like so: 20 * 4 is too high because the 7 would put it above 81, 20 * 2 is too low, so the answer is 3
      And the tables thing is just 27 = 9x3, 81 = 9x9, 9/3=3
      When you frequently do maths from the top of your head you can answer stuff like this pretty quickly.

    The quick maths part is 1) unimpressive, and 2) wrong. Firstly, I can understand where he went wrong, but even then, it's just 81/27. It's not impressive if you know the powers of three. Secondly, the way Greg said it should have meant 100-19/27, and you have to follow the order of operations and do the division first (the correct answer being 2681/27). Joe did the subtraction first, which is wrong.
    If Greg had said "the quantity 100 minus 19 divided by 27", Joe would've been correct, as it would've meant (100-19)/27.
    Also, knowing the eleventh number in another language as popular as German isn't that impressive either, is it?

    • @troppmann
      @troppmann 2 ปีที่แล้ว +149

      Regarding getting the order of operations wrong, it was the Taskmaster who made that mistake. Joe compensated for the inclusion of human error and gave the desired answer. Joe was thinking on a higher level than you.

    • @Francis...
      @Francis... 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Not everyone knows more than one language.

    • @OmnipresentPotato
      @OmnipresentPotato 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Francis... 1) Have you ever been to any place in which English is not the main language?
      2) Knowing what eleven means does not necessarily mean he knows how to speak German. I know, for example, what twelve means in Amharic, but I don't speak it

    • @OmnipresentPotato
      @OmnipresentPotato 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@troppmann well, he could've at least mentioned it later on, or gave both answers. That would've been iconic. There's no need to assume he "was thinking on a higher level". Also, as I've mentioned, if you're someone who works with number a lot, this isn't really much of an illustrious feat of talent and intellect.

    • @Francis...
      @Francis... 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@OmnipresentPotato Why, yes. I was born and raised in a country where English is not the main language. It's a life skill to speak, read, and write. Knowing how to do those things in another language, that's what makes it even more impressive.
