    This filmmaker series is really quite helpful and unique. Your interview style is personable, putting guests at ease to give a wealth of knowledge. Quite a service-- thank you! Do you think her comment on stereo holds true on Filmhub as well? I had to maximixe the lav clarity by using dual mono in my last doc. Good job J. Fantastic stuff!

    • @JHorton
      @JHorton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The feature has a whole should be mixed in stereo. I think it's okay to have interivew dialog in dual mono. (but don't take my word for it, i'm not 100 percent) But the music and ambiant should always be stereo. And the final export should be stereo.

    Linda mentions they have a document that outlines their preferred marketing/social media strategies. I looked on their site, and nada. Of course, this talk is 2 yrs old. Any possibility of an update about that?

    Linda mentioned that she wanted a film delivered in 16.9 but what about if my film is edited and exported in 2.39.1 aspect ratio? No, not just 16.9 with Black Graphic bars added actually edited in this aspect ratio? Isnt that still going to deliver a 16.9 but just instead of graphic bars actual black will appear?

    • @JHorton
      @JHorton  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, they want 1920x1080.If your film is shot 1920x820 for example it would have the letterbox black bars on the top and bottom. but the file to be a 1920x1080 frame or 3840 x 2160 if it's 4k.

    Do actors in independent films get royalties once streaming on Amazon prime?

    • @JHorton

      totally depends on their deal and contract. Most non-union productions do not do that.

    Hi sorry one question. On the Prime video direct page I read that 4k is not supported. On the requirements of the file it is written like this, do you think?

    Prime Video Direct supports video resolutions up to 1920x1080p. (4K/UHD content is currently not supported)"

    • @RichardWaters
      @RichardWaters 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @JHorton
      @JHorton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RichardWaters thank you. I do most of mine myself. But when I have trouble nailing one, I have found a few good, cheap artists on Fivver. I don't have a specific artist I'd reccomend. IT really depends on the genre and style of poster. Also, if you just go into almost any large filmmaking group on FB and ask. You'll get a few dozen responses usually.

    • @RichardWaters
      @RichardWaters 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      J. Horton I’m always slightly cautious of Fiverr, but I guess some of the prices are so low it’s not exactly gonna be a huge risk if it’s a wash there! Thanks a lot for the tips! Keep up the videos. I’ve only recently discovered the channel and been enjoying what you’ve been putting out!

    For a $90K Film, how much Lump Sum does Distribution pays the Filmmaker?

    • @JHorton
      @JHorton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that's not how it typically works at that budget level or lower. Typically a distributor licenses your movie for a percent of profits. You are paid when the movie earns. They don't pay you upfront. Usually you get between 60 and 80 percent of the revenue, minus any fees the distributor may have occurred. In the case of IndieRights they don't charge any fees, they just take 20 percent of the profit... Now occasionally a distributor will give a small advance against potential profits, but that's pretty rare for indie stuff. It's happens, but it's rare.

    Is it hard to get your fin with indie rights

    • @JHorton
      @JHorton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really you just submit it on their website, they’ll either take it or they won’t. The process is easy.
