Great Review! However I have to add one con... It has no windows! It would be so nice chill out in the recreation room with a beautiful view over an alien landscape or distant planet. Apart from that, yes, it's a great ship.
I have two MSRs, one is a Loaner from the c2 and the second one was from a Live Twitch giveaway that I surprisingly won! As I don't normaly win star citizen ships But I enter them any way. I was not planning to buy a MSR with real money anyway. But I did get that nice Black and gold paint of when it came in concept. There are a few MSR giveaway running at the moments. LOVE my MSR for all those reasons. Biggest con (besides the fuel munching), is the single entry point. Had an issue where the back hatch got smashed and was stuck halfway open. No way to enter it or request repairs.
in the tunnel area, one goes to the far right-front area of the ship, close to being under the scanner dish. I wish they would add an escape hatch. There is room, but the hall just dead ends at that spot
I don't mind the single entry point... what I find annoying is that there are too many doors from entry to cockpit (4 - excluding the ramp). Howver, I do believe and hope at some point that you can lock these doors open. Other than that, I love my MSR to bits and permanently wear the 'un-named' skin to go along with my all black 325a. Btw, both my MSR and 325a run your suggested component builds. Thank you very much, keep up the good work xD
I think the fuel usage would be fine if they tweaked the way all ships consume fuel. The star runner is a large ship that has large powerful engines and thrusters to make it as speedy as it is. It should guzzle fuel. But the community has run tests to prove that fuel usage is linear. So if you fly a ship more gingerly and use your thrust limiter to keep it under say 50% thrust, it will still use the same amount of fuel and it just takes you longer to get there, so you're better off going full throttle all the time. Think about it in car terms. A sports car can get reasonable fuel milage whe driven reasonably. But if you take it to the track and give it a total beat down you're getting like 4 miles to the gallon. So if CIG fixes this there is your balance. You have a big fast ship that can outmaneuver anything in it's class, but you gotta save that shit for when you need it or you're gonna pay a big hydrogen bill
You make the best ship review videos, hope you stick with it for the long haul. Also, bring back Ship Battles! Sabre vs Super Hornet, Valkyrie vs Prowler, Freelancer vs Cutlass. Also I'd love to see a buyers guide on the Anvil Wildfire, I've been on the fence about that ship for a long time. Just some thoughts, keep it up man, love the content.
I absolutely love this ship, it’s a lot like the Millennium Falcon as far as the floorplan layout, even with a secret network of sublevel maintenance tunnels. Great for hiding stuff or people!
Don’t know how often this keeps coming up but neither is being changed... the fuel scoops just haven’t been working and are finally being enabled and the usage is accurate, but just now the scoops will work properly
The Mercury Star Runner is an absolutely beautiful ship. The only issue I currently have with the Mercury though is that for some reason CIG did not give it any escape pods. 😕 Practically every medium-large multicrew ship comes standard with escape pods but suddenly the Mercury does not get them for some reason. This just doesn't make any sense to me and I sincerely hope CIG will reconsider and give the Mercury 3 escape pods for the crew. There is more than enough available room inside the Mercury and multiple locations where they could place some escape pods. In that long hallway behind the bridge, on the wall across from the turret seats, that wall with the big bags hanging from it in the sleeping quarters, etc. etc. Another fan-favorite suggestion was that the cockpit itself would actually detach and serve as a lifeboat (similar to the Caterpillar Bridge Module). This would have been a great solution as well as currently that entire area next to the cockpit has nothing in it and it looks as if that entire area is held together with metal clamps; almost as if it was already meant to become some kind of detachable module. For a renowned manufacturer like Crusader Industries who holds safety in the highest regard it just wouldn't make any sense why the Mercury is suddenly without any escape pods for its crew in case of an emergency; especially when CIG showed during an earlier segment that on the Hercules they had escape pods listed behind the bridge. Both the Crusader Hercules and Crusader Mercury have similar crew sizes so why does the Mercury get no escape pods while the Hercules is planned to get multiple? So yeah, I REALLY hope CIG will reconsider and give the Mercury 3 escape pods (or a cockpit-lifeboat) for the crew. The Mercury is already a potential death-trap because it only has 1 exit and with "Death of the Spaceman" you'd really want to have some extra means of escape on the Mercury just like you currently have on practically every other medium-large multicrew ship. Even the Constellation Andromeda which was originally stated to be "the Millenium Falcon of Star Citizen" has escape pods for the crew as well as several airlocks and other means of egress.
Unless the game radically changes, escape pods are largely useless. If you lost a fight bad enough to need an escape pod I don't see the point in your character staying alive for a bit longer.
From a "lore" perspective the MSR not having ejection capabilities actually makes sense. This is the kind of ship you'd use to ferry information that is so important or valuable, not just monetarily, that leaving the ship to the whims of whoever may be trying to intercept it just isn't an option. You'd use this ship on a do or die mission. Only piloted by those willing to give their lives to see the mission completed. The kind of pilot who would rather be particlized alongside the MSR and whatever it's carrying. I'd liken this idea to the pilots and their balsa wood and cotton fabric biplanes back during WWI. Command actually removed the parachutes from the planes so that the pilots wouldn't be able to just bail out when things got hot, they were forced to push on and never had the option of giving up. The big difference now though, the MSR isn't made of wood and cloth, it's made of pure testosterone and raw power.
Cool! I have to wonder though if "making the hydrogen tanks bigger" will come at the cost of the quantum tanks. At the moment it seems that they increased the quantum fuel tanks by accident and a good chunk of that 9740qfu was probably meant to be hydrogen fuel instead. The Mercury was supposed to have 2xM quantum fuel tanks compared to the Constellation's 1xM quantum fuel tank; so it should have had around 6000qfu (1xM tank usually has around 3000qfu). At the moment it appears to have 3xM quantum fuel tanks though so I suspect that CIG will change 1 M fuel tank from quantum fuel to hydrogen fuel instead. 😉
I heard 3.12 will fix hydrogen consumption of MSR and Nomad. Also they are going to fix the issue of the MSR sinking onto the planet when you switch off the engine.
Hey @SubliminaL 2 years on, is it still your favorite? I'm on the fence about it, between the lower pilot DPS and the doors being slow. But it seems way more maneuverable than a Connie or Corsair and I'm getting kind of tired flying in a slowboat...
Actually, they're pushing this ship hard this weekend. When you buy a game package or check out with a standalone ship, you get a pop-up window that says "Add a Mercury Star Runner to your order for for $xxx."
I think the crawling tunnels should have at least one exit hatch, I mean there's a dead end witch would work nicely for that... So basically a secondary exit but not necessarily an entrance (on planets) since it seems difficult to fit a ladder in there too, and maybie it could be only be opened from the inside...
EH, it's not really, especially if you don't screw with the man elevator in the cargo deck and just jump up and down. If you compare it to any other ship capable of 80+ cargo there is really not much of a swing. You're looking at a time about the same as the cat, faster than a carrack, and roughly the same amount of hallway that you get on a freelancer max + only a single button push to drop the ramp. If you compare to an auruora or something for doing box missions yea but by and large if you're talking a ship this size you aren't really doing box missions any more, you are doing proper cargo runs or vehicle operations, and compared to other ships this size for those uses it's on par
Am I the only person who plays this game to relax, delivering packages and enjoying the views, not trying to rush like I'm a real life Amazon delivery man on the clock with a boss yelling at me? You don't enjoy walking around and appreciating the details of the ship?
I bought one on release, melted it then had almost instant regret lol... I still don't like it's solo firepower but I have to say, it's an amazing daily flyer. And with some friends, the dps is actually nice.
@@bunjmin4503 Yes and CIG decided to make it bigger which means you will be paying at the pump. We will see when 3.12 goes live. here is my post. It has links to the bug report and then there was a leaked 3.12 list and the fix was the bigger tank so you dont run out of fuel as fast. It needs the fuel scoops fixed and or the consumption of fuel. The comparing to the sabre really makes me giggle and cry at the same time. But not cause the MSR is so good, the sabre is in a terrible state atm imo i really hope they change that since its a really light stealth fighter!

Great Video Thanks for making us msr owners better. I got the MSR And I got the Corsair you think thats a good combo or are the overlapping each other.
I’m looking at both of those myself and haven’t bought either due to that dilemma. The firepower of the Corsair keeps tipping me towards it but the appearance, interior and flight capabilities keep me interested in the MSR. Add a comment if you finally decided on a favorite of the two.
I fell in love with this ship when it was first announced in concept. I got the Nightrunner skin and finally got the ship to put it on in this year's IAE.
Bear in mind there will be a lot of rebalancing across the board at some point in the future, and the shadow of the nerf hammer will be ever-present - That's the MMO life. The MSR is a versatile and good-looking ship. For me, it combines the best of the Cutlass Black, Freelancer MAX and Herald, but you lose out on solo-ability in a dangerous 'verse; if solo's your thing the other three ships have you covered but with much less versatility, and beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. Out of interest I'm sure I saw a goldie-looking executive skin called Nightrunner(?) in some other YT videos - not the "you had to be there to get it" Advocacy skin. Did I misunderstand something or should I expect that to turn up? It was much more my speed!
Melted a Connie Taurus into the MSR for £70. Because CIG still haven't fixed the Connie shields, missile racks & Taurus is still in concept & now unable to defend itself, while the base design (Aquila) is already flyable. Very happy, but would like size 4-G or 5-F back on the pilot turret. The upgraded Andromeda loaner did have nice firepower but you have to shoot-n-scoot because of the ineffective shields. Have been ejected from the MSR when entering QT a few times too.
Ugh I have a Cutty Black (game pledge), and the pirate pack but really want this, although I can't utilise the multi crew aspect much... Thoughts on melting pirate pack then getting an MSR and Sabre? or should i just use the MSR as my everyday instead of the black
I absolutely love this ship almost everything about it is perfect for me. There's one issue tho...it has only one entrance/exit so if that gets obstructed or destroyed, you're in a death trap. How do you all who adore this ship deal with this fact? I wanna know so I can deal with it too and buy it :D
You've got my thumb up in the air for pointing out the frustrations of many buyers, concerning the black skin. They should allow them to buy a completely black skin then at least.
Very late but the whole skin shit is a fucking failure, it should of been a simple RGB generator with different accents on each ship. Not this whole preset shit all over again.
I love this ship in almost every way. Although the hydrogen fuel consumption makes me wanna haul my very own Starfarer around and I do wish *some* of the hidden tunnel space would've been used for additional crew quarters or a second entryway that automatically closes after each use to give the finger to shipjackers.
I love this ship, just like u i got 2 coz of my M2 pledge, gonna try ur loadout on one, and as a non dogfight player being able to escape thoses casual pirates of grim Gex is so satisfying : "global chat : nice try !"
This thing is the millennium Falcon of the star citizen universe. Everything from the hull design to the turrets, to the smuggling bay is very similar.
I absolutely love the MSR and it has because my number one fave ship and I make more then I spend of fuel doing ROC mining so the fuel isn't a huge problem for me but it most likely will get a small fuel tank increase so the fuel lasts longer
The MSR makes the Connie (as in the flagship of Star Citizen and Chris Roberts' baby) look like dog doodie in every way. I sincerely hope CIG takes the Constellation back to the drawing board after seeing what the MSR can do.
The hydrogen fuel needs to be about a quarter of the consumption it is currently. It cost about 7k to refuel it to full when empty which means it costs about 1k just to get into atmosphere. Hard to make money when its 12-14k to refuel both completely(maybe 2 round trips max) and you are only making 5-10k per full cargo trade. But yeah except for that it's a great ship!
I had this ship for almost a year , but when i used it, i don't know, i didn't feel the connection to her, so i melted it. I have the valk to do most of the things i would do with the MSR anyway, but i have her in buy back, so perhaps in the future when data running works, i can buy her again.
Today neither. The MSR is limited sale so it only goes on sale a few times a year. I estimate the MSR will be for sale in game for 3.14 or 3.15 at the latest. They usually wait 6months after it is released.
I want this ship SO BAD and I want to start grinding for it but with the wipe coming up there's no point. If it was available on the store, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Unlisted CON: There are places a player can glitch into the ship, bypassing the ramp entirely. Yes this is not an intended feature, but it is part of the ship right now.
@@DoommmooD I don't know, but a guy snuck aboard my rental during the expo and said that's how he got on. Considering I'm quite paranoid about keeping an eye on whatever entrance I use to get on a ship, I can believe it. Especially since this isn't the first ship to have this issue.
Pretty sure the cockpit itself is an ejection system, makes sense with the double doors and if you look around the cockpit from the outside of the hull you can see obvious clamps and a seam where it would detach
I wasn't going to get the MSR, I love the Andromeda (which was my go-to ship), and the MSR asymmetry bugs me a bit. Bug OMG, the capabilities of this ship so much match what my preferred gameplay needs, I got the Warbond. I also got the C2, BTW, so I currently have 2 MSRs as well. Very much looking forward to that C2....
So what is your verdict after a year? Thinking of Andromeda vs MSR right now... 4x s5 Pilot weapon For Andromeda and snub fighter is a big plus for Connie
@@17trunX Still the MSR more meets my needs. The weapons aren't much of a concern for me as I prefer flight to fight usually, and the MSR can certainly get out of dodge while the Connie isn't able to outrun the quantum dampening ships like the MSR can.
This hallway to the cockpit almost looks like an airlock... maybe there are plans to be able to detach the cockpit-area as some kind of escape pod... or at least have been during design-phase?
I could do 3 different box missions on a full tank tbh. A little decoupling goes a long way ... and I regularly do 2 runs with a ROC on a full tank (150-175K each). It's bad, but hyperbole is unnecessary. ;) I really don't want to fly any other ship. Side note, it wouldn't even be so bad if you could refuel at a station when you have a vehicle in cargo --- I know I can't right now.
I don't like the constant millennium falcon comparisons, the MSR is way too nice. No one is going to walk up to one in a hangar and be like, "this hunk of junk?" Although, admittedly, if you fly it in 3rd person it appears to handle a lot like the falcon did.

i got the scoundrel pack early november, so i'm sitting on a Merc, C2, F7CM and a Perseus. The last 2 for now is an Ursa and a ROC.

That’s correct; a fix is coming for the fuel usage.
It's just getting larger fuel tanks but no fix as of last I heard for fuel economy.

I love this ship. I managed to get that cool black skin, when I completed the game I didn't think much about it, but now I'm so glad I did.

I think the crawling tunnels should have at least one exit hatch, I mean there's a dead end witch would work nicely for that... So basically a secondary exit but not necessarily an entrance (on planets) since it seems difficult to fit a ladder in there too, and maybie it could be only be opened from the inside...
You missed long in out times which is a big deal when running cargo or boxes.

EH, it's not really, especially if you don't screw with the man elevator in the cargo deck and just jump up and down. If you compare it to any other ship capable of 80+ cargo there is really not much of a swing. You're looking at a time about the same as the cat, faster than a carrack, and roughly the same amount of hallway that you get on a freelancer max + only a single button push to drop the ramp. If you compare to an auruora or something for doing box missions yea but by and large if you're talking a ship this size you aren't really doing box missions any more, you are doing proper cargo runs or vehicle operations, and compared to other ships this size for those uses it's on par
Am I the only person who plays this game to relax, delivering packages and enjoying the views, not trying to rush like I'm a real life Amazon delivery man on the clock with a boss yelling at me? You don't enjoy walking around and appreciating the details of the ship?
One of my favorite things about this ship in the skid landings you can do because of it's heavy landing gear. Scoundrel pack for the win.

I bought one on release, melted it then had almost instant regret lol... I still don't like it's solo firepower but I have to say, it's an amazing daily flyer. And with some friends, the dps is actually nice.
The fix will be a huge fuel tank. But you didn't hear that from me... it needs better fuel scoops.

@@bunjmin4503 Yes and CIG decided to make it bigger which means you will be paying at the pump. We will see when 3.12 goes live.
here is my post. It has links to the bug report and then there was a leaked 3.12 list and the fix was the bigger tank so you dont run out of fuel as fast. It needs the fuel scoops fixed and or the consumption of fuel. In the Brochure (Last post on the bottom) it specifically says that it "Ticks All the Boxes" and "the Chassis raises the bar on speed and efficiency while remaining a stalwart of reliability" So we will see what comes of it.

The comparing to the sabre really makes me giggle and cry at the same time. But not cause the MSR is so good, the sabre is in a terrible state atm imo i really hope they change that since its a really light stealth fighter!
Ha dude, I upgraded my MSR for a C2, then after 5mins, upgraded my shrike to an MSR. You are right, having that 2nd MSR loaner works great!
Nice video. There are rumours that the Belligerent Duck skin that you showed in the video will be available to obtain somehow on December 17th although the Nightrunner skin which I too missed out on won't be available anymore.

Great Video Thanks for making us msr owners better. I got the MSR And I got the Corsair you think thats a good combo or are the overlapping each other.
I’m looking at both of those myself and haven’t bought either due to that dilemma. The firepower of the Corsair keeps tipping me towards it but the appearance, interior and flight capabilities keep me interested in the MSR. Add a comment if you finally decided on a favorite of the two.
I fell in love with this ship when it was first announced in concept. I got the Nightrunner skin and finally got the ship to put it on in this year's IAE.
Bear in mind there will be a lot of rebalancing across the board at some point in the future, and the shadow of the nerf hammer will be ever-present - That's the MMO life.
The MSR is a versatile and good-looking ship. For me, it combines the best of the Cutlass Black, Freelancer MAX and Herald, but you lose out on solo-ability in a dangerous 'verse; if solo's your thing the other three ships have you covered but with much less versatility, and beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
Out of interest I'm sure I saw a goldie-looking executive skin called Nightrunner(?) in some other YT videos - not the "you had to be there to get it" Advocacy skin. Did I misunderstand something or should I expect that to turn up? It was much more my speed!

Melted a Connie Taurus into the MSR for £70. Because CIG still haven't fixed the Connie shields, missile racks & Taurus is still in concept & now unable to defend itself, while the base design (Aquila) is already flyable.
Very happy, but would like size 4-G or 5-F back on the pilot turret. The upgraded Andromeda loaner did have nice firepower but you have to shoot-n-scoot because of the ineffective shields.
Have been ejected from the MSR when entering QT a few times too.
I can't decide if I love the MSR more than my Carrack, but I definitely fly it more than the Carrack right now.

I absolutely love this ship almost everything about it is perfect for me. There's one issue tho...it has only one entrance/exit so if that gets obstructed or destroyed, you're in a death trap. How do you all who adore this ship deal with this fact? I wanna know so I can deal with it too and buy it :D

Very late but the whole skin shit is a fucking failure, it should of been a simple RGB generator with different accents on each ship. Not this whole preset shit all over again.
I love this ship in almost every way. Although the hydrogen fuel consumption makes me wanna haul my very own Starfarer around and I do wish *some* of the hidden tunnel space would've been used for additional crew quarters or a second entryway that automatically closes after each use to give the finger to shipjackers.

This thing is the millennium Falcon of the star citizen universe. Everything from the hull design to the turrets, to the smuggling bay is very similar.

I think they mentioned there will be a reason once scanning is more fleshed out so the extra room will be usefull well that and the trap door space.

Another downside on this thing is that once that nose turret is gone, both pilot guns are gone, meaning slugging it out is a risky proposition.
The fact is that as this ship is so fast u can just escape without problems

I absolutely love the MSR and it has because my number one fave ship and I make more then I spend of fuel doing ROC mining so the fuel isn't a huge problem for me but it most likely will get a small fuel tank increase so the fuel lasts longer
Had a feeling this was to be the ship to beat as it seems way too good on most everything but dps and atmospheric flight fuel. She is a beauty.
The MSR makes the Connie (as in the flagship of Star Citizen and Chris Roberts' baby) look like dog doodie in every way. I sincerely hope CIG takes the Constellation back to the drawing board after seeing what the MSR can do.

The hydrogen fuel needs to be about a quarter of the consumption it is currently. It cost about 7k to refuel it to full when empty which means it costs about 1k just to get into atmosphere. Hard to make money when its 12-14k to refuel both completely(maybe 2 round trips max) and you are only making 5-10k per full cargo trade. But yeah except for that it's a great ship!

I had this ship for almost a year , but when i used it, i don't know, i didn't feel the connection to her, so i melted it.
I have the valk to do most of the things i would do with the MSR anyway, but i have her in buy back, so perhaps in the future when data running works, i can buy her again.
Can this ship be bought with ingame UEC or can u only buy it IRL?
Today neither. The MSR is limited sale so it only goes on sale a few times a year. I estimate the MSR will be for sale in game for 3.14 or 3.15 at the latest. They usually wait 6months after it is released.
I want this ship SO BAD and I want to start grinding for it but with the wipe coming up there's no point. If it was available on the store, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Unlisted CON: There are places a player can glitch into the ship, bypassing the ramp entirely. Yes this is not an intended feature, but it is part of the ship right now.

@@DoommmooD I don't know, but a guy snuck aboard my rental during the expo and said that's how he got on. Considering I'm quite paranoid about keeping an eye on whatever entrance I use to get on a ship, I can believe it. Especially since this isn't the first ship to have this issue.
Pretty sure the cockpit itself is an ejection system, makes sense with the double doors and if you look around the cockpit from the outside of the hull you can see obvious clamps and a seam where it would detach
They have stated the “escape” decal was an error and the cockpit will not detach.

I wasn't going to get the MSR, I love the Andromeda (which was my go-to ship), and the MSR asymmetry bugs me a bit. Bug OMG, the capabilities of this ship so much match what my preferred gameplay needs, I got the Warbond. I also got the C2, BTW, so I currently have 2 MSRs as well. Very much looking forward to that C2....
So what is your verdict after a year? Thinking of Andromeda vs MSR right now... 4x s5 Pilot weapon For Andromeda and snub fighter is a big plus for Connie
@@17trunX Still the MSR more meets my needs. The weapons aren't much of a concern for me as I prefer flight to fight usually, and the MSR can certainly get out of dodge while the Connie isn't able to outrun the quantum dampening ships like the MSR can.
I like it but havent flown it much. Its only good for trading atm. Also pretty sure the hull hp will be adjusted in the future.

This hallway to the cockpit almost looks like an airlock... maybe there are plans to be able to detach the cockpit-area as some kind of escape pod... or at least have been during design-phase?
Lol nah.. you forgot about the underbelly maze. Detaching it would leave that just open. Besides, it's really too small to have any detachable parts.
I could do 3 different box missions on a full tank tbh. A little decoupling goes a long way ... and I regularly do 2 runs with a ROC on a full tank (150-175K each). It's bad, but hyperbole is unnecessary. ;) I really don't want to fly any other ship.
Side note, it wouldn't even be so bad if you could refuel at a station when you have a vehicle in cargo --- I know I can't right now.

Although, admittedly, if you fly it in 3rd person it appears to handle a lot like the falcon did.
