Bless you both. My little 13-year-old dog had an accident last night. It is not an embarrassment so much as it is disheartening. As they get older, we worry more. With him "running in his sleep," you can see that there is still stimulus in the back legs, but the strength is not there. Swear, cry, throw a fit, or whatever. We love you, Jamie, and we love Sherpa. You are not alone. I'm still praying for you both. Hugs and prayers from an old lady in Texas.

Better than bottling it all up, my psychologist often takes me outside in the garden of the practice if I feel the need to scream all my frustrations out, honestly it does help to relieve your stress, so do it if you feel like you need it! I know the feeling well! Back in 2003 I had to get my beautiful dog put down ! She lived for an amazing 22 years! But was suffering so badly at the end ! I’m still not over it !was the actual worst day of my life! 💔

I don't know how this video showed up on my feed. I am going through the same thing with my 12 year old Lexi. Just had 12 teeth removed, made her feel so much better, and now she can't stand on her own, has no feeling in rear legs. I cry everyday.

Pain sucks. If I were not on all my pain meds, nerve meds, and muscle relaxants, I would literally be laying in bed screaming.

I hear you. I wish meds weren't a necessary part of life, but they mean I can have a bit of a life, so it seems a fair trade.
I am truly sorry you both suffer with such constant, agonizing pain. I hope you have lots of love and support in your lives. So much can affect pain levels esp weather. 2 months ago I had an abscess somewhere embarrassing, even with 3 hospital stays and crying in sheer agony with some morphine relief, it took being discharged and an emergency dr appointment to get antibiotics. Never felt such horrendous pain so I truly do feel for you both. Lots of hugs 🤗🤗.

One of the side effects of Librela is Urinary Tract Infection, that will cause Sherpas accidents and Severe back pain, Jamie just needs to take Sherpas urine sample to the vets, I could be wrong, but I am betting on a UTI as it's after Sherpa had the Librela injection he started to go outside at around 5am and now the "accidents" and back pain

A little help for Sherpy
Hi, I’m in Australia and my elderly Tibetan Spaniel cross has similar problems. She’s 15 and was really struggling with pain and lameness in her back legs so I had to stop walking her every day. Long story short I realise it’s too much exercise. She’s now on CBD oil and has a little walk daily but a couple of longer walks weekly and is as bright as a button. She’s back to chasing balls and tossing toys around. Sherpa became lame after hydro. Perhaps he’s just not recovering as easily now he’s older. Just a thought.
Accidents are part of the aging process. I’d clean up every day as long as my pup was happy to keep going. I could see it in his eyes when he was just tired, done , and over it,
You seem to be hanging on together and hopefully Sherpa is just having a moment and will recover a bit more. Much love to both of you

Sister Sarah works in hospitality and I can imagine she’s working long hours as it’s the really busy season in Cornwall right now. Also as tired as Jamie is I imagine he’d not want anyone else sitting with Sherpa

My heart breaks for Jamie and Sherpa. You can see how much Jamie loves this wonder companion. Much more than just a pet to him. I am praying the new specialist will find the cause of the problem and be able to give a solution. Keep your chin up Jamie. Sherpa surely knows how much you love him. He is one fortunate dog to have you as his loving care giver.
I spent many a time holding up my old boy so he could go toilet and he always gave me a look as if to say thank you for looking after me I needed that help. I miss him so much.

I recognize that look on your face. I’ve seen it in the mirror. It’s so hard to discern what is old age , what is urgent, and what is chronic from which part of his body. Is it ortho related? kidneys? So many things can cause his symptoms. You two are in my heart.
Meals on wheels! Oh Jamie, they say that laughter is the best medicine. I hope that’s true for you. There’s nothing worse than worrying about your babies or your animals. Their inability to tell you what’s wrong makes it all the worse. Praying for you and Sherpa.

My sweet doggie acted the same way and couldn't get up. I thought it was her arthritic hip dysplasia again. She suffered with that her whole life and has episodes where she couldn't walk. But on one episode l, I took her to the vet and she actually had severe pancreatitis. She would rally and pull through a few times until her body just couldn't anymore. The last time, she gave up. She let me know she was done and refused to eat or drink even when I fed her with a syringe. I wasn't ready to say goodbye but knew it was time. I called Lap of Love here in the US, and a kind vet came to our house to help her go to sleep forever in her own bed, surrounded by love one year ago. I still cry every day.
I am so sad for you and Sherpa, but I understand your pain watching his ups and downs and the reality of what may be near even if he rallies again this time. It's tearing me up too and I've never met Sherpa. I'm very sorry you are going through this.😢
I’m really sorry about your precious pup. My last two girls had the same possible hip dysplasia though not officially diagnosed. It is so so tough seeing them go through that. I have the harnesses and everything. Both girls were treated with acupuncture which provided incredible extension of life with no issues till the end. I am curious about pancreatitis is it diagnosed via blood work? My boy needs a good round of blood work done to see how everything is doing. Again I am so sorry for your loss. Losing them is like a pain unlike any other. 😢❤
@@seabreeze7378 Yes, blood work will show pancreatitis. It's apparently extremely painful. She would lay on her tummy with her back legs tucked underneath, often on the cold kitchen tile. It's very difficult to know where their pain is coming from sometimes. I had a harness for her too and used an old sheet to diy a makeshift lift for her back end to help her potty. The dysplasia was adorable when she was a puppy and I didn't understand that her bunny hopping was a sign of future trouble in her hips. Still, despite all of her health issues, I wouldn't have traded her for a 'perfect' doggie. She was my best friend.

When Sherpa is trying to stand up, it looks like you lifting his back end will help him a lot more than pulling his front end with the harness. I used to lift my dog's behind to help him stand up. Once his hips were above his rear legs instead of behind them, he was stable.

I had a senior big boi who also had weakness in the hind end trying to stand. I def agree with Shelley, I used both hands (or the band like you have) to assist his rear. He was good with the front. Chiropractic helped him a lot (arthritis). Hope Sherpa feels better.

Sometimes we have to think about the life our pets have lived. Sherpa has lived a wonderful life, thanks to you. If you need to let him go, it would suck, but it's okay. We love these guys so much, it's so hard to even think about the inevitable. Love and support, Jamie ❤

It is so hard seeing your beloved family pet getting old and declining in health. I've been there. It's not easy at all. It just doesn't look good. I'm so sorry dear friend. Keeping Sherpa in our prayers. When my dog was 14 she had all of her teeth too. She had a terrible dental infection. I remember scrambling eggs for her to eat and drink water. I brought everything to her and eventually, she bounced back. I hope Sherpa bounces back.

Our 16-year-old dog lost her battle with Cushing’s disease in December. It was very hard. She got to the point that she couldn’t move her back end well and had trouble turning around or going backwards. It also caused elimination problems and she would go wherever she was. She was on a whole bunch of different meds for back pain, neck, pain, and the Cushing’s disease meds. I really do understand what you’re going through, and it’s OK to swear and cry.
As beloved pet owners ourselves, we have all been where you are. We feel your frustration, and also your hope for Sherpa. You are both so well loved, and we keep you in our prayers for better days and improved health. ❤️
My 16 year old is on the same medicine and it’s done wonders for his hind legs arthritis. Back to normal.

Do not apologise for Sherpa's accidents. Those of us who've been following Sherpa for a while, know perfectly well that he's a very good boy and would never do this deliberately. I've been wondering if the inability/reluctance to walk and the incontinence are connected. Perhaps a pinched nerve is blocking the feeling that his bladder is full. Hugs from Aotearoa/New Zealand.

The joys of being a parent/pet owner, you are always on call and will loose sleep. You might still have looked like you were i your 20's if you haven't had Sherpa in your life...or Sarah for that matter.

This is not easy at all and I am sooooo sorry.,.. on the up side if it is a disk that is acting up there is a chance it will heal on its own... fingers crossed you get in soon. He is eating and drinking and seems very content so that is a good thing... Try and keep thinking positive thoughts ... He is a very strong and happy little one and I am sure he will get better.
Hopefully its just inflammation of some sort, the fact that this happened so quickly makes me think its an isolated event, not necessarily old age. I have no medical training at all, its just a guess. Praying for Sherpy to be back to his old self soon! ❤

You're probably having advice rammed down your throat Jamie, but our dog is 15 and has a stage 3 heart murmur he also suffers from pain in his back and rear legs, he has been on Gabapentin now for 3 years and it's been absolutely amazing it's made a huge difference in alleviating his pain.
I only "know" Gabapentin from a cat rescue channel here on YT, they use it for different kinds of medical reasons and from all that I've seen I agree, it seems to be very good.
I was on that for a while for nerve pain, seemed to work but i think i was on too high a dose, 300mg, made me feel a bit odd. im sure as you say it would be good in small doses for him.
@@markorollo. I also was on this medication after a fall. I was on a smaller dose so that is different but it really helped me and was happy to hear that it could be assistance to Sherpa
Upvoting this. Liquid gabapentin, made at a compound pharmacy. We'd go every month to pick up a fresh Rx for our kitties. It helped them a lot. 🖤
My cat is on liquid Gabapentin, as well, for her arthritis. It works really well. She's now getting up on chairs on her own again. Very good drug.

Such a roller coaster of emotions. He was so spry after his dental surgery that I was cheering. Hopefully this is just a small dip in the tracks and he’ll be back on top of the world again soon. Bless him and you as well.
Jamie, when you help Sherpa up, PLEASE put the camera away and use both hands. You filming isn't important to us at those moments. Most important is Sherpa is as comfortable as possible ❤
He does, you don't see it because he's put the camera down!! How many times do you think he's been helping him up that's not in the video ffs!! Think about what you're saying before you criticise!
