Basically in a time of a crisis we had to export our oil to other countries. India is importing less and exports had sharply rose at 34% yoy.

currently @ 33 . Crude was above 100 usd for 2011 to 2014 for 3.5 consecutive years ... Government collection from exise is 25% of budget .. currently raise that target to 33% of budget. mens 10lk cr..for FY22 only .UPA oil bond total amount is 1.7lk cr . . max .( for 10 yrs).

The international crude oil is currently decreasing. Anyway the russia ukraine war started in february. So the war started more than a month back. But the fuel price was frozen until march 20. It only started to increase after march 20. The international crude oil price increased tremendously when the war started. But it didn't affect the fuel price at all during that period. Moreover fuel price is also frozen during the election time. So to put in a nutshell, it's the central government which actually controls and regulates the fuel price in india even though the oil companies claim to do so. The crude oil price increased when the war started, but the indian fuel price was frozen & it didn't increase. Whereas when the international crude oil price decreased now, the opposite is happening in india as the fuel price increased rapidly

I am actually curious about this whole situation and came across this argument that if oil prices are reduced then consumption will increase hence more import duties and balance of payments will be disturbed.
2. That petrol and diesel rates are less in states governed by ruling party
3. In Diwali, when govt reduced prices some stated didn't reduce VAT and hence people still had to pay more.
I would be glad if someone could clear this up!
