I find it interesting that a lot of people with a classic rock background actually appreciate this simple riff, good lyrics and catchy tune, while people with a strict preference for one genre ( most likely vkei, jrock) dislike it. I think in order to understand Miyavi you need a very diverse taste in music, an open mind and the understanding that we don't listen to genres, just good music. There is a world of difference between a layover voice effect and auto tune, and there is also a great thing when a brilliant guitarist takes his time to make simple tracks and doesn't just stuff endless intricate guitar solos in every single track. I personally really like this song, that doesn't mean I've liked every single Miyavi release, even if I've been supporting him for a very long time and will definitely continue. It's natural to have your own preferences, but some people take it too far with the convinction that what they don't like no one could possibly like. Miyavi is doing fine, and will continue doing fine because he is a brilliant musician. He will also continue to experience, because this is just him. If you want his mad guitar skill and natural, raw, unique voice, definitely go see him live, you will not be disappointed.
Robert the weak I listen to Classic Rock and I'm none of the things you wrote here, at least I'm not old or dead. But I'm not just listening to Classic Rock, I listen to Metal, Hard Rock, J-Rock, sometimes Hip Hop and to Miyavi! A little bit more open minded and you could live your life more happy :)
+Kadek Diartha hey,I have classic rock background and I'm 48 years old,but I am still alive and also I love much this song.shortly, don't act like an young jerk, who thought that world starts with himself.because this is not true.
Shray Exactly! I love his guitar-focused music and I love his pop music and the only thing that can top either is when he posts cute photos with his kids which is just out of this world and adorable.
+Shray fuck you there is. his style changed upon the years. some ppl prefer his older tracks some prefer new ones. we need to respect his no matter what :D
TheGeTLeFT But it's all still Miyavi. He decided to make a different kind of music but he's still the same person putting his personality into his art.
This old and new debate is silly. Artists change and develop in directions they want - whether you like it or not. "His Japanese stuff is so much better" - and yet even in Japanese Miyavi tended toward mainstream, popular sounds and incorporating new things into his music. The same outrage over his change of style occured almost every time he did something out of his previous concept. You're basically telling Leonardo da Vinci to stick to portraits because you dislike his inventions...
I get where you're coming from. The whole "I like old stuff better" argument when it comes to artists irks me too. But you have to admit, Miyavi really doesn't have any energy in this song and his guitar playing is boring. Even if his older music was geared more towards mainstream sounds, it still had that touch of visual kei and individuality. Here it feels like its gone. I don't mind when artists change. Sometimes they have to or it gets boring. But this is a change I don't think he shouldve made.
Japanlover32 You're reflecting your subjective impression on his work. YOU don't feel it. Cool. Happens. I don't feel half of his Japanese discography but never complained he should just produce songs I think suit him more.
***** Whether you complained or not, wouldn't you prefer he makes music you like? It's always disappointing when a musician has a style you really enjoy and you get excited for their new music and it comes out being quite different. Maybe you don't dislike it completely, but it's not what you really wanted. I for one would prefer artists I listen to make more music that I like. I still think most of his music is fun and good, but it's certainly not what I would have wanted after Gagaku, Galyuu, or even Miyavism.
Anita, I didn't mean to come across as complaining. After all, its just one song I don't like out of the hundreds he's released. But yes, you're right. Some people do feel this more than his older work. Thats completely fine. But, as I said before, my opinion is that I don't care for this new release. Just like SweetToothKane said, I do prefer when artists produce music I like to listen too. Since I've been listening to Miyavi fro so long i do want him to create music that I like.
SweetToothKane No. I want the artists who I like make music THEY themselves enjoy creating and playing. They are not there to serve your taste, that's what the so called "corporate music" is there for. Artists essentially create things they enjoy and people who share similar tastes start paying them attention. When an artist starts to create content you dislike just move on. Demanding artists to suit your needs is selfish. That's not fan mentality but consumer mentality.
I said this on one of his latest releases, Miyavi is an ORGANIC artist. He changes over time, and so does his music. He doesn't struggle with one world or another. He takes his experiences and puts them into his music in both style and lyric. I would put money on the fact that he wrote this song during the filming of unbroken, where he had a hard time playing a character that is so against his nature. This isn't bad music. It's a new style Miyavi is trying, and he will move onto other ones. He hasn't left visual kei behind, If you've been to any of his shows you know this. Frankly, I've been a fan of Miyavi since he started his solo career. I've watched him evolve. And you know what keeps me coming back: The new shit. It doesn't matter if it's a different style, It's new, and it's Miyavi. It was wierd enough dealing with his hip-hop transformation. But that era of his music produced some incredible tracks that I still listen to till this day. He still has the Samurai in him, he just isn't yelling at the top of his voice anymore.
I love Miyavi's diversity -- He's always trying new things, exploring new sounds and continually suprising me with what he's capable of... That is what true art is to me. I'd grow bored if he always produced the same thing, album after album - that he can keep the crowds entertained through all these different manifestations of his music... makes him a TRUE artist.
I don't think people understand that Miyavi is a/an artist/musician that constantly evolves. It's what makes him unique, that as events happen in his life, he evolves to the next stage of who is meant to be. When he did Neo Visualizm, it was because he wanted to break from the norm of Visual Kei, and do something different such as incorporate painting, dancing, rapping, and rock and much more into one genre, but now he's evolving to the next stage of music. Also, you never know, those who constantly say "I prefer him to sing in Japanese" can be very discouraging. He did very well on Ellen, and I for one have to say that I'm super proud of him.
+Miyu Smith I barely started listening to him, but I can see that he is incorporating so many different styles. It is so interesting and unpredictable. I like what I am hearing even though it feels new to my ears....its like discovering a new world lmao. Some artists sometimes incorporate different styles but it doesn't flow. Miyavi's has so much flow.

You can tell who has been with MYV since the beginning and who hasn't.. If you haven't you will hate his new stuff, because you fail to know him as an artist, and how he's NEVER resided within a box, he does HIM, and that's that.
Guys guys guys, some of you already know Miyavi for years and you still don't understand him. Since he started was always changing; To be part in a Vk band like was Due'le quartz to be soloist where he did a lot of changes even now (just listen to first and last album he did when he was in PScompany.. no no even to his last album, you will notice it quickly) Did you remember when his english was terrible? LoL he is learning everyday as we are. Thankfully new doors are opening to him and he have to take every opportunity to continue learning. He probably will still changing and WE LOVE MIYAVI because of this, there's no barriers for him. Now meevs have a huge support of his family and we can't just send disappointment to him. Please still supporting Miyavi as musician representing his country and NOT a music genre, as the great guitarrist he is and specially as dad and human being. LET GOGOGO♥♥♥
I'm another who enjoys his new music, but misses the flair and uniqueness that his Japanese music had. I've loved Miyavi since 2004 and I've stuck by him all this time, but this new English music is missing something in my opinion. It's not bad, but it doesn't really leave me wanting more.
I first listen to this on Ellen! I'm so proud of Miyavi as a ko-Miyavi who follows him for years! I understand that some people might find him 'normal' or 'mainstream' but come on! let him do whatever he wants to do to his music! I'm sure we all know what kind of person he is, he is one of the kindest artist I ever knows and I really look up to him. I don't think he just want to attract more people by being mainstream, Miyavi changes all the time, he is still and will always be special.
Guys please LET GO, when you signed and you get a well known pop producer well ,, he just went with the flow and he always mutate with his music ,, all his albums are different remenber the one with hip hop and dancebreakers ,, I mean, he is just miyavi and there is no genre we can clasified him ..
I think fans who really listen to this man's music and a major reason Why I will forever love him and his music is that his messages are ALWAYS RELEVANT and relatable. It speaks to the people , he talks about the WORLD , he talks about Situations and emotions we all FEEL at some point or time in our lives! He talks about the wrongs and the Rights . His music is ALWAYS Sending A MESSAGe. Over the years he has become more and MORE positive and Worldly and it probably has to do alot with the fact that he is a father !! Parenthood changes EVERYONE . WEll the majority of people who want to give their child as much as they can to survive and be happy in this world. So anyway , I dont mind if his styles continue to change because there is and will always be an element that SCREAMS I AM MIYAVI !! . Every song he makes he puts his official STAMP on it ! ITs always unique and its always his own thing . I wont say I miss his crazy more hardcore rock because even I grew up and a lot has changed in my life where his words now speak to the me NOW and his music before speaks to the me BEFORE . SO yeah thats my 2 cents .. I love you MIYAVI you are my GUITAR HERO and your music has helped me through so much and really helped with keeping me from the Dark side in life lol (^_^)/ I cant wait to see u live in concert again! It will be another unforgettable memory
Man this is great! I remember when you played 'Are you ready to rock?' live in Chile, and I can feel the evolution throughout these years. Way to go, Meevs!
An artist changes just like people's personalities change. It takes a lot of trust in an artists abilities to branch out and risk losing fans who listen to them for the sound they know and love. Many artists tend to stick to their debut sound or the sound that gives them the most fans due to pressure to perform well financially. However personally I like artists that evolve their sound constantly, keeping their roots but surprising their audience over and over again in a mindblowing way. Diversity is a strength, not a weakness. Miyavi's strengths lie not only in his guitar skills but also his ability to mould those same skills in different genres and create sub genres of his own that sound out of this world.
Discovered Miyavi just yesterday when I watched Unbroken and kind of fell for him though he was the bad guy lol! I was like he must be an idol cause he looks like a kpop idol and then I found out he is jkpop! I see he has kindof a more rock/dark music style but I'm starting to like it, just wanted to say you've gained a fan not only for your acting but musical talent!
I love the fact that their songs are always different and I'm also always surprised. I love the new things he brings. I really love this lyrics. It means a lot to me. Miyavi can never disappoint me
Stop saying why he changed his style or somthing , if you are a really true fans of japenese rock or visual kei , u will already knows that every band change there style after many years , so stop comparing the past with the present and the futur and thx .
Ryuko kei Can you realize that what he is doing is for success ? And money, of course. "The pressure for success, obsessed, I guess, emptiness is all that's left" Come on !! He did a full ENGLISH album !!! Japanese is more beautiful in his mouth than english. In another side, he is right to looking for success. I guess he wants to be one of the japanese that everybody know and respect. But... not with these songs (especially "ahead of the light" and "horizon" ugh...). "Selfish love" should be known by everyone, as "jibun kakumei", "kimi ni negai wo" and "itoshii hito". I hope it's just a phase. I like his music, his personnality, but not his choices, musically speaking. To be fan means to be blind and give deeping love and money ? To be musician means to be demagogue and loose yourself for everybody's entertainment ? He is doing what he wants anyway... Miyavi still be Miyavi.
I see a lot of comments responding to this song as if Miyavi's making a turn down mainstream lane ready to crash into the wall of homogenized obscurity. I don't really think that's it at all. I liked this song-it's not my favorite, but I think it's a song with lyrics that match some of Miyavi's feelings, and a tune to help reach out to a much broader audience. Miyavi is an artist-but he also needs to support himself and his family. Not every song he releases has to be some ingenious wonder of a melody-it's catchy, somewhat simplistic, with a clear message-so hopefully a lot of people will like it even if it's not one of his most "creative" songs.
My Drama/Arts teacher played this for us today after giving us crayons and paper and telling us to draw a picture with the crayons being our dancers. She told us to 'Let go and express ourselves' which was pretty awesome. Long story short, I've fallen in love with this song.
Miyavi doesn't fully associate himself as a visual kei artist. He's just a musician artist. I remember him saying this. He doesn't want people focusing on his make-up, but his music
I really really like Miyavi, i think he is one of the best musician in japan and even in the world. But i prefer when he is singing in Japanese language.
If you don't like Miyavi's music, don't listen. Go searching for an artist who releases the same kind of music every year. Some people do have interest in developing and trying new things. Is it that hard to support the artist? Is that all just because it's hard to guess what's his next step? For me, that's awesome; he is showing that he can do even more. Miyavi is great no matter what he does, and he deserves his message to be heard by the whole word, if he wishes so. You shouldn't be that selfish, he doesn't have to be the "old" Miyavi again just because you want. Being is more important than looking. And experiences are what make one improve. I liked "old" Miyavi, and I do like "this" Miyavi, because they are exactly the same person.
I wish Miyavi consider serious acting career along side with his Music career , I know it's tough but I think he is so suited for acting ^^ , Love you Miyavi , I am new fan :3
Funny thing is, when I heard it live, sooooo raw and perfect I hoped it wouldn't be overproduced, but..... I loved the overproduction! Very well done. Kewl thing is theyre so excellent live. Cant believe they have the balls to perform with just the 2 of them USA debut--and they were excellent! Excellent live, raw, simple, 2 piece band. 2 piece drum set! No one plays guitar like him! Well done! Cant wait to hear the rest of his stuff. This guy has a lot to say. Maybe now i'll learn japanese
Just saw it on Ellen too. I don't watch Ellen, my wife does. I heard it and had to come out of my office and see. Its incredible. Nothing simple about it. I'll tell you what the hardest thing about creating anything is in its simplicity.
I really like you Miyavi! Saw you on Ellen today - just happened to be on that channel as I don't usually watch tv in the afternoon - so glad I was so I caught you performing!!
Miyavi is Miyavi and his love for music. I thought he's fine the way he is. I've notice physical changes to him & I believe it's because of his beautiful daughters and wife - and that is ok. Miyavi, no matter what changes - you, your music, your life - just keep playing. Your voice reaches deep in my soul & touches my heart. I'll support you thick & thin (n.n)
Just stop arguing and bitching about how Miyavi has "changed". It's all about the music, always was, always will be. Take your negativity and put it away. Now listen.
I find it ridiculous that everyone is splitting his music into "english" and "japanese." Do you really think Galyuu and MYV Pops are the same? What about the Kavki Boiz stuff vs What's My Name? I hardly saw anyone complaining about all these changes over the years. It's fine if you preferred Miyavi's music from a few years ago, but let's not pretend this is the only time he's gone through a drastic style shift. If you don't like it, you don't have to keep listening to it. The way Miyavi works, I guarantee his music will sound very different in just a few years. Artists evolve.
Great work, MIYAVI-san and Staff members. I still like your music no matter what. Try your best and do whatever you want, but make sure to rest when you are too tired, ok? :) Thank you for your hard work.
THE QUEST, THE STRESS THE PRESSURE FOR SUCCESS OBSESSED I GUESS EMPTINESS IS ALL THAT'S LEFT ONE VOICE INSIDE TELLS ME THAT I CAN FLY ONE ON THE OTHER SIDE TELLS ME RUN AND HIDE SHOUTING TO MY SOUL... LET GO X3 THIS MESS I'M IN I'LL EITHER SINK OR SWIM MY HOPE IS GROWING DIM WONDER COULD THIS BE THE END ? THE MORE I THINK THE DEEPER DOWN I SINK THE FEAR I'M TRYING TO DRINK COMES BACK UP AGAIN SHOUTING TO MY SOUL LET GO X6 SHOUTING TO MY SOUL WHAT I ALREADY KNOW TIME TO LOSE CONTROL LET GO
Whoa, the first 43 seconds could make a great opening theme for a series of some sort. I'm guessing either school or work-related series since it starts with lyrics about "the quest, the stress, the pressure for success" and whatnot. It's catchy enough, isn't it?
Miyavi is changing all the time. I love his music anyway but I feel more and more confused with everything after 'Live in London'. This song is ok and I'll probably love it but now I'm confused.. again. Miyavi is one of the group of artists developing themselves. That's all.
shut up! You unreal fans and let this man experiment with his music >:O!!! i swear some people are so ungrateful, at least he's trying new things, i mean he's transitioning and making better things, who says he'll still be into pop sometime in the future? Things change. If people don't experiment it wont be fun, they cant change/ fix anything, like a scientist if they don't experiment we wont have cures.

^^^^^^^^ agree so much
there is no "old" or "new" Miyavi...there is only Miyavi....and this track is just as awesome as his other tracks~
Finally i find a person who is on MIYAVI's side everyone changes and MIYAVI is the best no doubt
I really like your words :)

Literally just finished watching this band perform on The Ellen Show. Awesome performance and song!!
It sounded better on The Ellen Show than it does on here
He truly is! His previous work before this is good too.
"this band"? it's just miyavi i guess bobo the drummer is part of the 'band' Hahah
Oh sorry RawrEmily2021 didn't know you were the "band" police of TH-cam....

It's just jrock not jkpop
I love the fact that their songs are always different and I'm also always surprised. I love the new things he brings. I really love this lyrics. It means a lot to me. Miyavi can never disappoint me
so Miyavi's style : no matter how many time I listen to it, I just dig it
+Lina Johnson this is funny song, which make you smille...
Stop saying why he changed his style or somthing , if you are a really true fans of japenese rock or visual kei , u will already knows that every band change there style after many years , so stop comparing the past with the present and the futur
and thx .
Ryuko kei Leave Myavi alone !
you're right :)
Ryuko kei nope. visual kei artists change their style..not the genre.
MixatoFreeKill Agreed
Ryuko kei Can you realize that what he is doing is for success ? And money, of course. "The pressure for success, obsessed, I guess, emptiness is all that's left"
Come on !!
New rhythm, same letters
Miyavi is Miyavi and he and his music are flourishing in a new style
Miyavi always be Miyavi
This unbroken dude makes pretty good music. Well done, Miyavi 👏🏽
Miyavi is one of the few artist that sounds better live sooooooooo much talent!!
I love Miyavi's music no matter what. He's an amazing artist, so stop with this debate of the "old" and "new" Miyavi. All in all, he's amazing
+Robert Nich well,Miyavi is an incredible musician.the fact that he is gorgeous man is a bonus, a fanservice for the girls ;)
MIYAVIIIIII oh menh......this is real music.....his lyrics menh.....its great....i shout dont LET GO on your talent keep going.........
待ってました!!
i like this song its awsome
It's Myv, so perfect as always~~
Love from Poland! ♥
I wish Miyavi consider serious acting career along side with his Music career , I know it's tough but I think he is so suited for acting ^^ , Love you Miyavi , I am new fan :3
I just coming here and seeing all the fans bicker back and forth.
Still love you after all these years Miyavi!!
Miyavi deserves more attention, DAMN IT
Electric performer! Thank you!!
The message in the music is good!! so.....LET GO!!!!
I was expecting to not like this, as I didn't like the last few ones but it's actually very nice! Love the sound, love the guitar and the rhythm. :)

So, so want to see this man live :'c
He's super rad live! :D
he's an animal at lives :D
Yeah me too 🤘🤘🤘
Funny thing is, when I heard it live, sooooo raw and perfect I hoped it wouldn't be overproduced, but.....
I love everything Miyavi does. He is doing very well and he is so very creative. I am a big fan from Canada !!!
All i can say is that i love his music!!
Just saw it on Ellen too. I don't watch Ellen, my wife does. I heard it and had to come out of my office and see. Its incredible. Nothing simple about it. I'll tell you what the hardest thing about creating anything is in its simplicity.
The message in this is fuckin awesome, live in the present and just LET GO!!!! Miyavi is deep love it!!
Lubie to! Bardzo. Zmieniony Miyavi jest ok. Jest idealny teraz, kiedyś nie był choć stare utwory też mi się podobają.
Me gusta!
I love it.
めっちゃ、ええやん。
he will forever be known as that crazy Asian guy from unbroken
No... i knew about him maaaaany years ago.... and im 31.
but if you only knew about him from "unbroken"...then yes. it kind breaks my heart XD
Pat that's how I know him too
Pa
He just keeps getting better and better!
Wow, this song describes exactly what I feel these days. So exactly, I'm amazed. Thank you Miyavi for everything, always!
best christmas gift ever!
I really like you Miyavi! Saw you on Ellen today - just happened to be on that channel as I don't usually watch tv in the afternoon - so glad I was so I caught you performing!!
Aw yeah
I feel bad for not liking this song, i'm a huge Miyavi fan since 2006
Miyavi is Miyavi and his love for music.
Oh my god! The second your band started playing on Ellen the other day I knew I was going to love this
But the live version did sound better
Freakin epic...Lovin the newer type of ..tunages :)...
刺激になります♪

MIYAVI I LOVE YOU OMG UNBROKEN WAS SO GOOD YOU ARE A TALANTED ACTOR YOU SHOULD PLAYING MORE MOVIES :)
shouting to my soul let go let go let go
新曲きた
Just stop arguing and bitching about how Miyavi has "changed". It's all about the music, always was, always will be. Take your negativity and put it away. Now listen.
cool song really catchy :)
this is my first peorson i ever watches that is japanese and i want to say i only like this song of his....but nothing more....
Miyavi is awesome.
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOO DAMN UNDERRATED........
Let go
Great work, MIYAVI-san and Staff members. I still like your music no matter what. Try your best and do whatever you want, but make sure to rest when you are too tired, ok? :) Thank you for your hard work.
THE QUEST, THE STRESS
THE PRESSURE FOR SUCCESS
OBSESSED I GUESS
EMPTINESS IS ALL THAT'S LEFT
ONE VOICE INSIDE
TELLS ME THAT I CAN FLY
ONE ON THE OTHER SIDE
TELLS ME RUN AND HIDE
SHOUTING TO MY SOUL... LET GO X3
THIS MESS I'M IN
I'LL EITHER SINK OR SWIM
MY HOPE IS GROWING DIM
WONDER COULD THIS BE THE END ?
THE MORE I THINK
THE DEEPER DOWN I SINK
THE FEAR I'M TRYING TO DRINK
COMES BACK UP AGAIN
SHOUTING TO MY SOUL
LET GO X6
SHOUTING TO MY SOUL
WHAT I ALREADY KNOW
TIME TO LOSE CONTROL
LET GO
Miyavi I was listen to when I was a child, where are you?
Miyaviiiiii
Whoa, the first 43 seconds could make a great opening theme for a series of some sort. I'm guessing either school or work-related series since it starts with lyrics about "the quest, the stress, the pressure for success" and whatnot. It's catchy enough, isn't it?
8 años ya de esta canción ❤
Miyavi is changing all the time. I love his music anyway but I feel more and more confused with everything after 'Live in London'. This song is ok and I'll probably love it but now I'm confused.. again.
Miyavi is one of the group of artists developing themselves. That's all.
i miss a guitar work at it... and singing in Japanese please. And It will be excelent :)
It sounds like many other things, but then also has some MYV vibe.
I want not to like it, but so catchy it's a losing battle :D
Senseii!! Your songs are always amazing! Very catchy! Love it ♥
Good sound!!! Excellent work miyavi
I wish it was a little longer but it's good anyway
MIYAVI, já tem data q vc vem pro BRASIL???
need some japanese style, more miyavi style, but still miyavi, so still cool
I feel like I've just discovered my new favourite singer OwO
MIYAVI is great !!!
かっけぇー
the song is great!
the lyrics are meaningful!
