What are the extracurricular activities that can l do right now from home to build my profile for top ivy colleges, so that l can stand out in game of admission.
What grade r u in? How much time u got? Colleges, especially high level colleges, look for a group of extracurriculars that are centered around your desired major. I was accepted into Cornell this past winter as a physics major, cs minor, and specializing in quantum mechanics. My extra curriculars were robotics, cyber security team, physics tutor, head of physics club and football lol. Also a quick cheat code that worked for me was applying to the Naval Academy. My Cornell rep told me to mention the Naval Academy in every other sentence of my application. Apparently the Ivy League schools are very impressed by students that choose that route.
i will say, ec's aren't everything! they're definitely important, but considering the global situation as of now, i see colleges being a bit more lenient with that. personally, my extracurriculars were incredibly limited and in no way related to my field of interest, but i still got into yale. if you have other stuff going on, it's not a make-or-break sort of deal, but regardless, you seem to have an impressive resume and i wish you the best of luck!
@@catinzehat2843 Actually l have a doubt whether the top ivy colleges will be accepting me because my profile is not so much outstanding like they really looked to a brilliant student rather than any average student? I living in very poor and uneducated society . I completed my schooling from 10-12 from a very tiny school where I never get any opportunities or a chance of do some extra curricular activities till now. That's why it is weak part of application? @@ankitagupta7168 i completely understand, but if you think your extracurriculars are lacking, make sure to put an emphasis on your life story. it might seem mundane to you, but students who shine from underprivileged backgrounds have their own unique advantage! it's completely understandable to lack ec's if you lack resources, and i think in your situation, steady academic achievement and good standardized scores can really help
Congrats! Do you have any advice for a prospective student that's going through the application process right now? Cornell has always been a dream school of mine :)
Start your essay early. A strong essay is very important, it is supposed to contextualize you. I spoke from my heart and it worked for me. Also in your supplements, reference specific things you look forward to at Cornell. Good luck in your application process!!
Hey Brooke, Could you by any chance do a video on how accurate the US news and world report rankings are? I have a lot of friends who use Niche instead because they say it's more accurate, and I was wondering if that was really true. Thanks!
Us News is more accurate,so you can use that for rankings and then use Niche to supplement other information like the grades they give for the different aspects of the school(food, majors ,campus lifee.t.c)
Any thoughts about how hard admissions will be during this upcoming season given how many kids from the class of 2024 want to take a gap year and will already be in the class of 2025? Thanks!
valid point. i’m part of harvard’s class of 2024 but already 300 kids from our class have decided to defer and join the class of 2025. it’s going to be crazy for this year’s round of college admissions
Denzel First, congratulations on going to Harvard (even though I’m a Yalie 😁)!!! Your comment echos what I have been hearing about at least Harvard and Stanford. My son is class of 2025 (assuming he goes straight into his freshman year of college), and the admissions scene was already nuts before the pandemic. Do you happen to know if most other top 20 schools are allowing such large numbers of admits for the class of 2024 to take a gap year? I understand that you may have absolutely no way of knowing this, but I figure there is no harm asking. Thanks!
mortypickles thank you very much! i’ve heard from some of my friends at the other ivies that the deferral amount is quite similar but beyond that, i’m not too sure about the other T20s
Hi! I actually emailed Princeton about this and they gave an extremely vague answer but how do you think students can show demonstrated interest? I was contemplating applying there through the restrictive early action program but, with that being scrapped, I'm not sure how I can show them that "Hi Princeton, if admitted, I'm definitely coming to your school!"
Make sure that your high school college counselor knows! I don’t know what size high school you attend, but in general college counselors should be able to communicate to a college that it is your top choice. I am more familiar with smaller high schools, and so I apologize if this suggestion isn’t relevant for a larger high school.
Robert Fernandez what a stupid response. Many people will not be able to submit a score not because they scare them but because they are getting canceled left and right. Get out of the comments if respectable responses scare you.
I personally think that it’s gonna be super important to have amazing essays and extracurriculars if you’re not submitting test scores, especially for competitive schools.
Isaac Leslie Nothing wrong with attending community college. There are people that fear or dislike standardized tests. Attending community college bypasses that and saves you money in the process. Later you can transfer easily to a 4 year school. You sound very stuck up.
The large number of deferrals from this year's class will also mean fewer slots. As much as my son's senior class got screwed out of their senior year, the juniors are going to have a much more difficult time with the whole college process. No campus tours, crammed testing, extracurriculars unavailable.....
Do you consist of any insights or specific knowledge regarding Students like myself who are also QuestBridge Prep Scholars and are intending to apply via the National College Match? Also, I am a student of an Early college and I will graduate with my High School diploma and Assocate of Science degree with the intended major of physics. I am intending to apply as a transfer student to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), but for the ivy league institutions I am planning to apply as a first year and transfer as many beneficial credits as possible to accelerate my graduation. My current ACT score is a 33, although, I still am experiencing some anxiety regarding the submission of said test score and I have yet to take the SAT or SAT II subject test (which I was originally to take but cannot as of now, even though I believe that I would be far better at the SAT). I have personal passion projects and a list of extra curricular activities that actually interest me, but due to COVID-19 there has been some obvious delayed that I adapted to by creating one of my own clubs for those interested in physics. I have the knowledge that this would display soon innovation and an excellent tenacious and assiduous motivation, but I am experiencing some doubts at the moment. I would appreciate the options of others regarding this matter and would be immensely grateful to those with knowledge to share on the matter. Thank you for reading this post.
