Maybe it's just my way of understanding things, but I have never had anyone explain modes and scales in a way that makes so much sense. These videos are so helpful. Thanks man!

      Yes. Definitely!
I saw a video for POW Music where the guy was teaching essentially the same thing. I considered (briefly) signing up for the class...it was in the context of learning the lead for a Hendrix song. But ultimately I decided that, while I think I'd learn a lot, I wasn't sure how useful it would be in terms of helping my overall music. He pointed out that, yes, we'll learn that lead, note for note, then it's "up to us" to figure out how to incorporate the lessons into our "style" or "voice."
But this is LOT easier, more straight forward... and it immediately gets integrated into everything I play.
With Brian, I don't have to "figure out" how to incorporate it while trying NOT to sound like Jimi, lol.
Yeah, Brian teaches us Jimi licks and Keith licks, and that's fine. I can use them any time I want, and, yeah, someone might even recognize it as a Jimi lick or a Keith lick, but nobody will think I'm playing a Jimi lead (or song) or a Kieth song.
      Hope that makes sense.
So, Brian's teaching is more useful and even easier, even though we still have to practice to get good. That part is required no matter who teaches!
Brian's teaching is more useful and easier to learn, IMO.
I guess that's what I was trying to say in this whole long epistle.
      Cuz he's good at it.
      So, duh, yeah, DITTO!

Hi All! It’s 11:07 here in Jacksonville, Florida, I’m Sally, and been singing and strumming since the 60’s, but lately tryin to learn to play some lead. Right now, I’m hospitalized without a guitar, but kicking back and enjoying some of your Active Melody lessons from my hospital bed. Thank you so much for all your free videos, and wondering the cost of your whole package especially related to playing blues. 🎸 thanks again!! 😍

That at the very beginning sounds a lot like the things my grandpa used to play - maybe not perfectly, exactly the same but highly reminiscent. He was a Chet Atkins super fan. But that's the kind of stuff I'd like to be able to do someday. I can basically only do regular chords, power chords and tabs - basically just rhythm. I've never got into the fancy lead stuff and scales and such lol.. That's what he would always try to start with when he'd try to teach me but I had too much ADHD as a kid - plus I didn't get scales and how they related. I only began to understand how it fits together in the last several years but now, it's a lot harder for me to learn since I'm in my late 30's. I don't absorb information the way I used to. But I wish I had another chance to let him teach me as an adult. It was sad to watch him slowly decline and stop playing guitar, stop working on his old cars, stop working in his garden, stop taking walks in the woods, etc. But my left pinky apparently got broke when I was a kid and it kind of locks up at the middle joint kind of like an upside down 'L' or 'r' shape - like the first two segments of my pinky lock up straight and I can only move the fingertip - like if you think about it, your pinky should basically be flat with the tip holding the string down but when I try that, the middle joint bends backward to nearly a reverse 90 degree angle - like I can't get it to resist and push against the string - I can force it to bend right but when I use it on a chord, it snaps and defaults to that position - so I have trouble with some chords - especially B chords and F to some extent. I know how to form B and Bm but I rarely ever use them when I'm just strumming and playing around. A lot of stuff I can just use my index, middle and ring finger - and hold two strings with my ring finger. But I wish I could switch my left and right pinkies lol.. I know Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath was missing his fingertips and still became one of the most iconic guitar players of all time but I can't figure out a workaround for my pinky the way he made artificial fingertips lol... Like I've been thinking I need to lock it into a semi-bent/relaxed position. But speaking of Tony Iommi, maybe there should be an "Iommian Mode" lol... But you put this information in such a way where it makes a lot more sense than from other sources - like how it all fits together and relates and everything.

To connect the 5 CAGED boxes to chords, add the b7 to the chords to make them all Dominant 7 (1-3-5-b7); then add the major 3rd to the Minor Pentatonic boxes (1-b3/3-4-5-b7). Make sure to only go UP from b3 to 3, never down and way from a chord tone.

Just a tip: at 5:53 where you have the diagram on the screen... It might be helpful for some if you rotate it 90 degrees to the right, so it lines up with the fretboard we're seeing on your guitar.
That way, we don't have to translate it in our minds while we're already translating the guitar from viewing yours (straight on) to our own fretboard, lol.

I can't wait to get good at this, and to practice it often! So far, I've got the first two positions pretty much down.
(This is my 3rd time listening to it, cuz I keep practicing wrong melodies, lol. But there's a lot that sounds good in this key.)
It's got so much in it!
That's why I want to learn it & practice it often.
    Thanks, Brian!

I just spent some time mapping these out to the modes.... it looks like this with the caged system
      Major
      C - 2nd String - Phrygian
      A - 5th String - Mixolydian
      G - 3rd String - Aeolian
      E - 1st String - Ionian
      D - 4th String - Dorian
      Minor
      C - 5th String - Phrygian
      A - 3rd String - Mixolydian
      G - 1st String - Aeolian
      E - 4th String - Ionian
      D - 2nd String - Dorian
