A&M fan here! I somehow got tickets through a Nebraska fan. Drove from dfw to st Louis for this. Best sports moment ever. We where sitting in the k state family section having tortillas thrown at us! Ill never forget the looks and tears in their eyes after that Sir Parker run!!! #gigem
I remember this game vividly, I had turned it on about halfway through after that damn Miami game (lifelong UCLA fan here) and this helped numb that particular disappointment. I remember how much I wanted A&M to win this game because K-State was who UCLA was locked with in that battle for the #2 spot behind Tennessee all year. An amazing game, especially because of how much I loved Dat Nguyen, who I of course remembered from the previous season's Cotton Bowl.
I remember I was 15 at the time and Lived in Aggie Town. The whole city was going wild and my parents and I went to the Airport to welcome them in and I got to be on TV.. was an awesome moment
Unforgettable. I remember when Parker dove for the pilon and the refs signaled touchdown that I accidentally shattered my glass coffee table as I erupted in celebration. Luckily, I had a much stronger table when the Aggies upset Alabama last week. :)
@@chrisdardar9445 Ohio State would have lost to K-State. Michael Bishop would have been the best player that the Buckeyes had played against all season long.
@@alexkain8564 Agreed. Ohio State fans are always convinced they would have “rolled” any other team in any hypothetical matchup. Most ridiculous fan base in CFB. I saw one commenting the other day that 2005 OSU would have “rolled” 2005 USC. Anyway, describing Tennessee as having “rolled” (Weinke-less) FSU when they only won 23-16 is moronic - but moronic is OSU fans’ wheelhouse.
this is a forgotten game by many...to me this is one of the biggest upsets i've ever seen. Being a Nebraska fan, living in Kansas at the time, all my friends were K-State fans and they were rightfully excited, i watched the game at home with my brother cause we really didn't give a shit who won, expected KSU to, followed a couple guys on the kstate team we heard about in the state playing HS ball...expected a big win and were shocked at how it ended...Coach Snyders comments at the end sum it up
As a Tennessee Alum, I did NOT want to play Michael Bishop and Kansas State. My favorite line was by Branndon Stewart, who started his College Career at Tennessee before transferring to Texas A&M. He said "When I first got to College, all I wanted to do was help Tennessee win a National Championship. I think I just did."
This day is a rather famous NCAA memory for me. My friends and I had most of the day to watch football...so we watched UCLA / Miami first...and every time one of us said, 'It's over!'...the other team would come back and prove us wrong. By the end of that UCLA / Miami game (which was also a classic) it was becoming a meme... ...and then we watched Texas A&M play Kansas State and the same meme held. By the 4th Quarter we were full believers in the jinx and were just having a GREAT time with it. Then...we saw the bowl selection show and realized our Purdue Boilers would be playing K-State in the bowl game. Then it wasn't quite so funny. Still great memories with friends.
K-State was pure hell back then. And, Michael Bishop was before his time. I remember one year they came to Austin and David Allen was putting on a clinic in the return game. Dude was fielding punts and kicks and sprinting to the end zone while directing his blockers. They were REALLY good back in the day. Nebraska was even BETTER during The Frazier and Frost years - RUNNING BACK U for real around that time.
Hell yea! Gave me goosebumbs!! i was a bouncer in San Antonio at Polly-Esthers on the River Walk when K-State played Purdue in the Alamo Bowl. The K State fans i talked to had nothing but good things to say about my Aggies.. AND, i hookep up with a couple of Kansas girls that night..yes Sirrr...
I still blame Big Game Bobby Stoops for this loss he announced he was taking the OU job and most of Kansas States assistants around the end of the 3rd quarter.
Video should have shown all the OT plays. You could have seen how that last play was set up, although Slocum did say they were just trying to get the first down.
I wanted A&M to win this game bc then it would put FSU in the NC. But I wish KSU had won this game instead. They deserve a NC. Now I'm a huge KSU fan. Very humble team they have year in and year out.
I was there, the KSU fans started throwing tortillas after the Ucla upset was announced. Ultimate jinx, but it was a great game and KSU really was playing like the National champion right up until that score was announced.
YEUP, We were there too that night… AND as for the TORTILLAS , I WAS ALSO at K S U’s Stadium that night in NOVEMBER just prior to their qualifying for the BIG 12 Championship game , the night they beat BIG🔴RED for the first time in I believe - 30 Years ; Just before the inevitable win , You could have opened a Mexican Restaurant and had TORTILLAS to LAST for the next year when they came sailing down from the stands that night 🥲 !!! The massive parade coming down the street afterwards and carrying the GOAL POST toward AGGIEVILLE was pretty impressive too… 😉 👍
Interesting that Parker was actually out of bounds before he crossed the goal line. (But no replay back then) However, it would have been 1st and goal at the one and the Aggies would most likely have punched it in anyway.
If only if only Bishop wouldn't have fumbeled....you had the first down with just over 2 minutes left!!! Just go down!!! lol man oh man this game still pisses me off lol
Yes. I recall when he was a freshman, i don't recall who A&M played early in the year, but they played like crap the whole game. I think late in the game, Slocum felt the game was over and put in Hall and he had a good game in the short time he was in. I told someone the next day , "we played like crap, but I think we found our running back".,
AND From our vantage point where we were sitting up under the lower level @ that end of the field , I still say COOPER had his man down on his knees before he crossed goal😢… POSSIBLY the biggest HEARTBREAK💔 in KANSAS STATE FOOTBALL…
I noticed the ref started to make the signal that he was short then switched to TD? They probably would have punched it in but I definitely think he was short.
“Possibly”? What could possibly compete with this? I think KSU was the best team in the country that year. That choke job cost them a national championship, IMO. KSU will never come that close again. (Don’t think they would have won in 2012.)
I can only imagine how painful this must have been and must continue to be for KSU fans. I firmly believe that KSU wins the national championship if they don’t choke here. That team was a monster.
It's arguably the most painful loss any CFB team has ever suffered; I only consider WVU's 2007 loss to Pitt to be worse. Boise losing at Nevada in 2010 would be right there on the pain index had Auburn not come back earlier in the day.
As good as the cats were back in those days....it seemed like once they lost one they crumbled big time....after this didnt they lose to unranked Purdue. From National Champ contenders....to loseing in a crap boowl game to an unranked team....and this same school in the same year upsets big favorite Texas and lose to Marshall....Cats were good but hugely disapointing at times.
I think the Cats were still reeling from their loss when they played Purdue. Purdue got very lucky as well in the first half to stay in it. (I am a Purdue alum, watched that game with high interest). You have to remember most of those guys on the field playing for colleges are really just kids. Not yet mature in the head. That's part of what makes the college game fun to watch. The swings of emotion. Purdue's offense was novel to most teams at the time, and K-State was ill-equipped to handle it. What was shocking (to me) about the game was how K-State struggled with Purdue's defensive front.
Hard to blame them for checking out after this choke job. When you go from better than even odds to win a national championship to playing in a crap bowl, any team would struggle mightily with motivation.
As a lifelong Husker fan, Bill Snyder is one of my all-time favorite coaches. The guy is an amazing tactician and loyal to the bone Wildcat.

Pretty sad if that’s your best sports moment ever - but understandable if you’re an Aggie.
K-State was my second favorite college football team at this time. This game f'n crushed me!!! Oh the memories.

After I saw “They Call Me Sirr”, I came to this TH-cam video. Sirr Parker was one amazing football player.

Man that was back in the day when the Big 12 was actually good.Sigh......
Before Oklahoma, Ohio State, Clemson, and the SEC started hoarding all the good Texas players.
@@JoeCab Oklahoma always recruited well in Texas as far back as Bud Wilkerson and Barry Switzer.
Kansas State vs Tennessee would have been an epic championship game.

ManicMonkey84 that’s some damn good bull right there
The overexuberance is understandable. Great wins only come along once in a blue moon for Aggie fans.
It's to bad about K-State not winning. They were by far the best team in the country that year
Ohio st would have rolled them. Tennesse rolled florida st. Ohio st vs tennessee should have been the title game.

One of two games that I will never be able to live down (Baylor 2012)
The whole K-state campus was depressed for like a month after that game.

LOL. A&M is a joke of a program. Biggest underachievers in all of college football.

Great game
If Bishops Hail Mary being caught 1 yard short for the win doesn’t sum up what being a kstate fan is, idk what does
No play betters sums up any program than that play. It parallels how the greatest turnaround in sports history fell just short of the highest summit.

What do you think of my estimation of Bishop's and Snyder's opinion?
RC Slocum could not win a bowl game to save his life. All those Cotton Bowls in his own backyard and lost them all.
That looks like Dan Campbell delievering a "Pancake Block" on the first offensive play of the game. 0:34
What a monumental win for the Ags. K-State turned off the gas and it cost them dearly!
Gig Em!
