I remember the Miami game in 1990. There were four turnovers, yet we won because Detmer wasn’t always looking over his shoulder. I disagree with this tremendous pressure on Jake. It will make him hesitate t o perform any throw into coverage. The problem is the play calling which doesn’t have much imagination or emphasis on getting the ball to the playmakers in space.. The coaching staff is killing initiative and makes the poor guy always on pins and needles. It is very wrong and counter productive to high level offense.
If you analyze the turnovers, one was a fluke with a defensive lineman jumping up from the ground into the passing lane. One was a fumble which was bad but good coaching can correct that (should have already).
The other was him trying to make a play. Yes he should have eaten the ball but if he had completed a pass that resulted in a touchdown we would be singing his praises.
When Detmer was playing there were plenty of turnovers but also a LOT more yards per game and touchdowns. The pressure that is put on Jake is wrong and will result not in a more effective quarterback but a second guessing one hesitant to take risks that has high reward possibilities.
Do your coaching.job and stop covering your own problems with the correctable mistakes of others!

      Jake is no Ty Detmer.

The other team during the post game said they knew Jake was prone to fumble. You can ignore this problem but the other teams will not.

Agree Arods play calling is predictable and head scratching. He is Not putting the ball in the hands of their best players. Replace Arod and Retzlaff will look a lot better. Nevertheless I'm not sure he can ever be good.

Jake's mistakes in no way compare to Ty's turnovers. That first pick . . . you just eat the ball. Period. There's no excuse for that one. Had he somehow managed to complete the pass, the decision would've still be a very bad mistake. I wouldn't have been singing his praises.

It's not just the turnovers, he misses wide open receivers

I love Jake, I love his desire and sacrifice playing this game.
Love also has TRUST a line that once crossed, a 180 degree change must take place.
JAKE is about to cross the Rubicon, he stands poised to step across and cause that 180 degree change

I don't know why Jake was picked the starter but that is what coaches are for. I would love to see Gary have a shot in hopes that the regains his form of a few years ago.

Wyoming game showed some improvement. There is much-needed improvement given the intense level of competition remaining in the 2024 campaign

Some if the comments are over the top negative. You all may be right but I say we need to give Jake a chance. See how he does and makee decisions at that point. Jake also does some good things and makes some great plays.

Jake will have seven full games to get ready for this conference season. Gerry will have zero. Just saying.

BYU better win by 12 points and the score needs to go over 40. That's all I need to see!

It’s all about starting the man who can put you in the best position to win. Do we all want to ask what if? It’s better to find out if option 2 is the better option.

Jake is a Jake homer and has been since last season. Jake if youve noticed is also an ARod Homer. And if you'll remember, as Slovis stood on the sideline in full pads the last 3 games of last season, Jake sold the ARod propaganda that Slovis was 'injured' even after Kalani said Slovis was ready to go on his show before the Oklahoma game. Maybe behind the scenes Kalani is like Coach Prime and bans anyone who doesnt tow the ARod line... its the only reason I can come up with why Jake is so enamored with Jake.

Retzlaff is a turnover machine. He may cost BYU a winning season and a bowl game if he remains the starter. No confidence in his stopping the turnovers.

Maybe the backup is just that terrible in practice and we failed to find a power 4 QB in the portal. Byu can't win in the big 12 unless they have a Hill, Beck or Wilson caliber QBs. This isn't the MTW. Doman's an Nelson's type QBs won't cut it.

Why would anyone judge an up and coming season, from last season? All things from last season aren't the same. Also, training camps, summer and fall, with new players in pretty much all positions. It's all about team chemistry. And each season is unique, in and of itself. So let's not pretend or judge things from last season's play! Geez!
