  • Tyntesfield is a Victorian Gothic Revival house and estate near Wraxall, North Somerset, England. The house is a Grade I listed building named after the Tynte baronets, who had owned estates in the area since about 1500. The location was formerly that of a 16th-century hunting lodge, which was used as a farmhouse until the early 19th century. In the 1830s a Georgian mansion was built on the site, which was bought by English businessman William Gibbs, whose huge fortune came from guano used as fertilizer. In the 1860s Gibbs had the house significantly expanded and remodelled; a chapel was added in the 1870s. The Gibbs family owned the house until the death of Richard Gibbs in 2001.
Tyntesfield was purchased by the National Trust in June 2002, after a fundraising campaign to prevent it being sold to private interests and ensure it would be open to the public. The house was opened to visitors for the first time just 10 weeks after the acquisition, and as more rooms are restored they are added to the tour.
Tyntesfield House was recently used as a filming location for Sherlock The Abominable Bride.

Monthly bills for the whole estate would be in the millions I would think. I assume this is a museum site nlwr. Friggin amazing could you imagine owning it lol. Could sleep in a different room every day for well over a year. More of you crashed in the out buildings.

Everyone is getting mourned as buying and maintaining such a Royal giant is expensive and impossible now a days for most people. But I have a better idea, let it be as it is and explore the house until some rich man really buys it. If you are a fan of victorian designs like me, you can take ideas of how a part of exterior or interior should be. Next while building your house of the size affordable to you, use these ideas of designs. That’s all.

Tyntesfield reminds me of Woodmont outside of Philadelphia. The chapel at Tyntesfield is magnificent in itself. When gothic is done well, it sure is convincing to actually appreciate, and setting aside the 1960’s hatred of it.

    I'LL TAKE IT!!! LOL!
I wonder how much the upkeep of the house costs every month. They've obviously opened the house to tourists to offset some of their overhead costs, but even with that income, I'm sure that the maintenance and carrying costs are still enormous. Gorgeous home, though.

This is a work of art, beautifully-preserved. (Could have REALLY done without the 'Chinese water torture-style' music though. The constant, loud, non-imaginative, droning, repetitive keyboard sequence is just over the top.)

This is what American "robber barons" sought to recreate with their Gilded Age mansions but couldn't quite nail it because it lacked that worn patina that prevents the grand from being gaudy.

No doubt a lot of basement/cellar space plus probably tons of outbuildings on the property. I guess it would have been a ongoing combined effort between the gardeners and the household staff.
