I am 69 years old and I remember using Prescriptives custom blended foundation and powder before the company went out of business. I actually have an olive skin tone and Prescriptives makeup looked wonderful on me. I now use warm and neutral complexion products but I definitely miss having custom blended products that were a perfect match.
Yesss! I used Prescriptives back in the day too! My cousin had put me on to their custom blended foundations. They also had amazing skincare products too!
Prescriptives broke my heart when they went out of business!!! That was my first "big girl" make up brand outside of MAC. That's also how I figured out I was allergic to MAC. I still miss them.
As a golden/neutral undertone girly, it took me a couple years to figure this out. To be fair tho, there were nowhere near the shade options and ranges as there are now. Cool foundations had me casket ready gray, 👻 and warm foundations had me oompa lumpa orange. 🎃
If your undertone is red (or blue), that makes you cool toned. Yellow (or orange) tone is warm. There are many ppl who think they’re yellow undertone, but it’s too warm, are actually olive or neutral warm under-toned.
PERSONALLY I'd like to completely do away with referring to makeup as cool or warm. Any color can be warmed up or cooled down. I find it much more useful when makeup is described with actual colors, like if a foundation is more red or yellow or orange or pink, if it has some green to it, if it's very saturated or not so saturated
I would also like to bring up secret option number 4, olive undertone which also has its own subdivisions of cool, warm, and neutral. How do I know? I have a deep olive complexion and balancing reds, yellows, oranges, and pinks on my skin was a _learning curve_ until I actually realized I had an olive undertone. I use olive foundation (aboutface), neutral concealer, and pink powder. Blush and bronzer are used very deliberately to add life in a non cartoonish way. And here's the thing, this information was gained from using _several_ creators with different skin tones from mine. So asking you, a person who can only look at an image through a screen to figure out the nuanced information such as skin undertone and what shades to balance it with is borderline psychotic. Go back to the drawing board, look at yourself in multiple lighting settings, make your skintone from scratch with primary colors and then get back to her about _your_ shade not matching hers.
Jewelry was easier than veins for me. I CAN pull of silver and gold, but prefer silver/white gold. I have a neutral undertone. When I was younger, I had a warmer/red undertone.
Were I you, I wouldn’t even try to help anyone find their shade match online. They’re bound to be disappointed! It’s impossible. They need to carry themselves into a store and have the associates shade match them. The nerve to get upset at you!?
I *think* I'm good on knowing my undertones for complexion products. I'm just struggling with pigmented products like lip color, eyeshadow, blushes. Unsure what's the perfect red for me. etc.😂

Forgot to mention that even within warm and cool there’s more specific undertones like olive or peach.

Me, too! Deep, olive-yellow warm undertone. Px made for me the first foundation that matched exactly. I miss them, too.
