4:23, the story is made very important in EDF 6, the details and storytelling in 5 are worth listening to. It's a very compelling take on Total War with an Alien species mixed with underlying tones total despair at losing everyone you love and trying to save what little remains while trying to turn the tide. The voice acting in the game becomes far better by the end, actors sold the emotion of the events that occur.
Soldiers slowly but surely losing compassion to their enemies, desperate attempts to arm more people by money measures and then by enforced conscription, society devolving into militaristic junta (mostly due to majority of liberals being exterminated when they try to greet their new alien overlords with open arms) and then even that junta devolving into separate resistance groups loosely connected by the intelligence officers, several critical points in the war making the difference in how conflict is going, pollution as a sudden ally to Earth forces, the Illuminati revelation, ancient alliens, etc. EDF5 story is so rich and it aways pisses me off when it gets glosssed over.
@@Noname-zq1rt Yeah.Normally I’ll say operator and commander voice line in 4.1 is better but his speech in that mission hit really hard and super motivational.
The only good thing about the story is how goofy it is, how off the wall and out of pocket 90% of the dialogue is. Other I’ll never take it seriously and the moment they start being serious is when the story will truly become bad
Mission 109 was probably the best example for me personally. The desperation in everyone's voices and the general hopeless feeling. Then I hear "THERE'S SOMEONE STILL FIGHTING DOWN THERE?!" And it was a literal second wind, what felt like an overwhelming slog suddenly became a dramatic last push.
So, so happy to see you posting again. You’ve got a phenomenal sense of humor, scripts that I’d expect from a channel hundreds of times your size, and consistently make some of the best content I’ve seen. Welcome back.
IDK man, by the end of the game I was actually soooo damn invested with the story that I was teary-eyed during the final mission. The voice acting definitely carries the game when the narrative gets darker and it pulls it off quite well.
Absolutely. In the age of cynicism and self aware media, it's quite rare to find a game that actually went all in with the direction (really old alien movies) and just play it straight Sure enough they can made the random chatter better but the storyline is just lovely. Can't go wrong with HFY
I love this game, got my friends into it too. I even imported EDF 6 for the PS5 its an absolute blast and improves on EDF 5 in many ways aside from class nerfs.
1:31 So nice of famous Japanese Nationalist and Author Yukio Mishima, whom is also infamous for storming a military base in Tokyo as a part of a attempted coup de'tat, where he then convinced a fellow participant to behead him after he disembowled himself in accordance with Seppuku. For introducing Osamu Dazai (At least I think that is him), another famous Japanese author and lesser known Japanese Communist whom had a questionable mental state before his suicide, to the old Kaiju movies which then eventually led to the cretion of EDF.
I think fencer without "skill issue" and two "mini"guns also applys to category "When doom music kikcs you in the balls". FULL MINUTE OF BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTRTRTRTRTRTRTRTR SHREDS ALIENS TO PIECES
I'm Belgian, I speak French, and.. Your humor is.. Absolutely INSANE 😂😂 I discover you channel because I'm a big fan of EDF, I hope you will make a video of EDF 6 ! Keep making people laugh ! Thanks !
EDF has a specific way of telling the story. It isn't in your face and the most important plot points are either at the start, in between waves, or at the end of a mission so you do get a bit of an idea of what is going on and what you'll face next. The tone shifts a lot too. From happy, cheerful, and confident in the early missions to depressing, desperate, and fear in the later missions. It is simple but very effective. You wanna play the game to just blast shit into space? No problem. You're a nerd and wanna dive into the underlying story like most of us big EDF fans? The game got you covered. When I first picked up an EDF title, I was hooked for weeks. First for the sheer amount of ridiculous weapons and mindless shooting, then for the Inferno challenge, and then for the story. Right now I replay 4.1 with my BF who got hooked onto it too now. Then go to EDF5 and next year EDF6. One thing to note, when these games release, they are finished. No live service, no cosmetics, no battle pass, no half game and rest in DLCs. DLCs aren't even tied much into the main story here and are completely optional and offer more of a challenge and even great farming missions (Golden Darkness in EDF 4.1 DLC if you wanna grind for the best weapons for example)
I'm sorry you got shafted in views by the tandem power combo of Mandalore and Sseth. I'll spot you and view the vid from start to end, since my friends recommend it lol
Wing Divers are absolutely nuts man. They're a close to medium range glass cannon, but the DPS output is insane. Lances for example are very short ranged, but they charge practically instantly, use (mostly) minimal energy and deliver huge amounts of pinpoint damage. Even the most heavily armored aliens can be killed in just a couple shots with most lances if you can get into their range, eliminating them in literal seconds. Phalanx and Rapiers have the highest DPS of any weapon in the game, if you can get close enough they will melt bosses with hundreds and later thousands of damage per second. Unfortunately, Wing Divers also have the most amount of weapons that are just straight up bad. Mag blasters sound cool until you read that their damage drops off as you expend charge, falling from okay damage to literal super soaker before even reaching the halfway point. Pulse guns almost universally suck and are additionally a huge pain in the ass to aim. Throwables and special weapons are almost never worth taking in solo, but a couple of them can be a lot of fun in online missions.
I have no idea why many people think it's required to farm armor to "play the hardest difficulties". The game is designed around progressing through all difficulties, one after the other. Literally play the game in normal, hard, hardest, and there you go : you'll get the armor and weapons required to advance. The weapons you unlock can't be taken where the level is inapropriate, so even if you manage to finish one inferno mission, you won't be able to use it in the lower difficulties.
The level restrictions on equipment only apply for the online lobbies. For solo you can in theory get one good inferno drop and let that hard carry you, but EDF5 also changed it so you have to beat the final boss once to unlock the last two difficulties. But while I also agree you don't need to farm that much, the first two difficulties are way too easy and only drop very low-level gear, which also isn't as fun to use. The higher the level gets, the more wild and exotic weapons become available that can alter your options considerably and turn formerly bad joke weapons into being actually formidable of their own. Plus, EDF 5 finally introduced that if you beat a mission on hard, your completion also becomes valid for easy and normal, in 4.1 you had to beat every mission 5 times with every class, now it's reduced to 3 times (as hardest and inferno will not grant the same retroactive merit).
The craziest thing is all classes are insanely powerful if you master them. The ranger can corner camp and obliterate people with a sniper. The wing diver has a special pack that lets her dash in the air for free letting you never have to touch ground. The air raider commits war crimes outside. And the fencer is a chefs kiss once you get used to the movement
Sword and gallic heavy cannon is such a fun combo on fencer imo. You get the dashes and dash canceling with the sword without making you effectively useless against half the roster, and the heavy cannon is one of the few ranged weapons that lets you 'cannon slide', where you still get to keep the momentum of a dash as you fire it. Most of the other guns will just completely halt your momentum. It's a surprisingly mobile and powerful combination that's extremely effective for both group fights and boss brawling. It only really struggles with aliens since it's harder to hit them in precise locations and the fact that there are sometimes huge level gaps between gallic heavy cannons, so you can really struggle in online lobbies when you are just under the level 30 something allowance and have to use either the level 1 cannon or something like the cannister shot to keep pace using that play style.
Eey yo i like stellaris very much all the way back when the fucking thing was nothing more than a buggy mess of unbalanced mechanics! And i got six hundred hours out of it because the endgame is just. So. SLOW. (Scream in ninety seconds/in game month at fastest) Not to say that i dont love EDF tho, been playing it since Global Defense Force all those years ago and it is very true that they just keep getting better! Well, for the most part.

I'm sorry you got shafted in views by the tandem power combo of Mandalore and Sseth. I'll spot you and view the vid from start to end, since my friends recommend it lol
One of the best games I've played in my life, top 10 easily
great write up and structure
you can also do follow up with a video on modding the EDF games, also fun fact the maps size varies at 2 kilometers.
the enemy roster of the EDF games is more varied that the an single game has bigger enemy variety then an entire franchise line of AAA games

streets of rogue review when
Actually, don't have to wait long for that one. It's on its way!
Hey Insect Armageddon is just fine. It was my first game then it was 2017 and onward.
Now we need the discord server..
What about EDF 6?
I would love to see you review EDF Iron Rain 😂😂😂
Please consider \o/
Poor iron rain maybe next edf we’ll get prowl rider
Wing Diver's weapons are busted. Just pick Phalanx for anything close range, and whatever's required, be it long range or mid range.
Commenting for the algorithm
I'm WalkingWeapon on EDF 5
Somehow the vehicle and mech here is better in my opinion than Armored Core 6
