Hey everyone! I want to address some things in this video because so many of you keep getting things confused or mixed up causing a bit of arguments or things that just aren't true about Sheng Long. Let me explain, Sheng Long is not a real character and never was. He was a rumored character said to be a hidden boss in SF2. Apparently in old game magazines, it said you must only play SF2 as Ryu. Beat every character without taking damage until you get to M.Bison. Don't do any damage to him and don't do damage to him for 10 rounds straight. Once this happens the timer will freeze at 99. Then a new round will start as "Sheng Long" will throw bison out of the stage, and the fight will begin. But again, this was just a joke/rumor. None of this actually happened. Sheng Long was just a mistranslation of Ryus win quote as he says, "YOU MUST DEFEAT SHENG LONG TO STAND A CHANCE!" sheng long is a mistranslation of "Shoryuken". In certain SF2 games or ports it was fixed to Ryu saying, "YOU MUST DEFEAT MY DRAGON PUNCH TO STAND A CHANCE!". So, Sheng Long is not a person or character in SF. But when the SNES version of SF2 came out the manual stated incorrectly that Sheng Long was Ryu and Kens master for some reason. As we all know Gouken is the real master of the two shotos. Sheng Long was soon rumored to be another SF game out of nowhere years later, that being in Street Fighter 3 New Generation. At the time though he had official looking artwork back then making the rumor at the time seem much more believable. But ofc this was just another joke/rumor. Now back then, when SF the Movie the Arcade game came out, Incredible Technologies who worked on the game with Capcom wanted to add more characters to the game during development. One of them was no joke Sheng Long, but Capcom declined of it when the game was being made. But while Akuma was added into the game, Capcom unexpectedly agreed to add Sheng Long to the game. But unfortunately, he was left unfinished due to time constraints. But in the Street Fighter Wiki there is some info on what Sheng Long was supposed to look like in the game and such. But since he was never finished, he doesn't officially count as SF Character. But he is still mentioned in Ryu's, Kens, Akumas, and M.Bisons Endings in the game. So, I think he was supposed to be an actual character until he was scrapped and left unfinished thanks to the games rushed development. Hence why other movie characters didn't make it in the Arcade version but were instead ported to the Home Console versions like Dee Jay and Blanka. Now he was also in SF6 world tour kinda, but it turns out that person was someone dressing up as Sheng Long. And Capcom did make Sheng Long artwork for SFV but again he's not really an official character. Now for those who are curious about the Sheng Long video you're watching right now. This is a mugen game that is linked in the description. Not a rom, not something for an emulator or console, just a Mugen Computer/PC game. That's all I wanna say, Sheng Long was just a joke/rumored character in the 90s made just to mess with people and get them to thing SF2 had a hidden boss in it like Akuma. Fun Fact Akuma was inspired by the Sheng Long Rumor since he is a hidden boss in SSF2 Turbo. But again, Sheng Long was never an official character, and I highly doubt he'll be in any SF Game as a playable character unless it's some background stage character or weird story cameo. I just wanted to make this video for fun since it's a cool mugen game, and I'm so glad so many of you came to like and support the video and my channel. You all are the reason I love fighting games. But just know that some things aren't really true about characters. And again, Idk if we'll ever see this joker be a real character anytime soon. ONE QUICK NOTE BTW!: For those who are confused by the gameplay, I don't like playing fighting games on the hardest difficulty and such. I don't want my videos to show off skill, but just to have fun playing. I played the game on normal and wanted to just try and get perfects out of curiosity. Cause ngl, this version of Sheng Long is OP as hell, his moves are so damaging, and he has A LOT of combo protentional. The other version I played was cheap as well but was toned down a bit to make him more playable. So just understand that I made this video because I like the Sheng Long character. and I'm glad ya'll have supported the channel and the video. Thanks.
I was there, 3000 years ago when I read the EGM magazine that showed the secret way to unlock Sheng Long. It's exactly the way you mentioned and then right on the next page was a section saying "Hey guys we've hidden an April Fools joke somewhere in the magazine. One lucky winner will win a prize if you can tell us what it is!" I thought to myself, "They wouldn't just do that right?"

Yeah, but funny enough. Sheng Long was suppose to be in Street Fighter the Movie the game. But was unfortunately left unfinished due to time constraints.
It's crazy cause as a kid I was an actual sf tournament pro. But never saw this guy or heard of him until literally almost 30 years later.. and I thought akuma was the strongest. This guy does an upside down tornado kick. And has all akuma stuff with the fire uppercut.. amazing. And I'm just hearing bout this .
Oh yeah, same here as 90's kid. I remember walking into that arcade and quickly entering the sacred input, down R up L Y B 5x in under 5 seconds to unlock Ryu's master, Sheng Long. Back then we were too poor to play an infinite number of games if required so we'd tie strings to washers and yank them out to reuse them.
@Ron742 it was a joke on an issue of electronic gaming monthly, eventually Capcom took note and created Akuma for ssf2turbo, and 10+ years later created this character but under a different name and not street fighter 2. The character you probably selected was Akuma. On ssf2t, character selection code starting with T.Hawk
Sheng Long is a fictional character associated with the *Street Fighter* series, particularly *Street Fighter II*, though he never actually existed as a playable or story character. His legend originated from a mistranslation in the game and a famous April Fools' joke that led to widespread rumors about his existence in the *Street Fighter* universe. Here’s the story of how it happened: 1. **Mistranslation in Ryu's Victory Quote**: In *Street Fighter II*, Ryu, one of the game's main characters, would say the following after winning a match: "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." This was a mistranslation. In Japanese, the phrase referred to Ryu's special move, the Shoryuken ("Rising Dragon Punch"), and should have been translated as, "You must defeat my Shoryuken to stand a chance." The mistranslation led players to believe that Sheng Long was a person, likely Ryu's master or a hidden character. 2. **The EGM April Fools' Joke (1992)**: The American magazine *Electronic Gaming Monthly* (EGM) published a fake article as an April Fools' joke in 1992, claiming that Sheng Long was a secret boss in *Street Fighter II* who could only be fought if players performed a series of extremely difficult and specific tasks. These tasks involved not taking damage for several rounds and then fighting the boss. The joke fooled many gamers, and rumors about Sheng Long’s existence spread, fueling speculation. 3. **Sheng Long and Gouken**: As the *Street Fighter* series evolved, Capcom introduced Ryu and Ken's actual master, Gouken, in later games like *Street Fighter IV*. Gouken filled the role many players once imagined for Sheng Long, as Ryu and Ken’s master, but Sheng Long was never officially made part of the lore. In summary, Sheng Long was the result of a mistranslation and an April Fools' joke, but he became a popular myth in the *Street Fighter* community for years. Despite his non-existence, the legend of Sheng Long played a big role in shaping the cultural history of the game.
@@GekiPurpleBut who then created this character in your video? Is it playable? Or is the entire fighting sequence and the character a fan made animation?
@@SupremeSkeptic It's a Mugen game. Sheng Long was created in the 90s in game magazines just to trick people into thinking he was a secret boss you can fight.
The fury of Sheng Long : Throwing double fireballs, upside down tornado spinning kick, and quick as a cat and best of all he knows how to talk trash while being noble still (that's awesome): "Respect your elders". I suppose that this was RYU's mentor?!! i actually just recently noticed that Ryu would mention his name in the original and i had no idea who he was talking about, till now.
The funny thing is, Ryu was referring to having to beat his Dragon Punch to stand a chance, Sheng Long was another name for the move, it was never supposed to be a person. Admittedly, like alot of people, I did think Ryu was originally referring to another person in his post match comment, like some special guru you had to fight before you could even qualify to think you could beat him.
Yeah. Funny enough though, Sheng Long, no joke was supposed to be in a SF game. The developers of SF the Movie The Arcade Game wanted Sheng Long for the game since they did add Akuma to the game despite not being in the movie. But he was left on finish due to time constraints. How you were supposed to get Sheng Long was to go through the game as Ryu and perfect every match. Then at M.Bison some how go for 10 matches in a draw. Then and only then would Sheng Long supposedly make an appearance!
Indeed, and he was also rumored to have Fireballs, faster than Sagats, and Kicks, deadlier than Chun Li's. And as the we can see in the manual "screenshots" his Upside Down Tatsumaki Senpukyaku, and Flaming Shoryuken.
I always assumed Shen Long was a legend character and related (probably father to) Fei Long. I remember some versions having "dragon punch" in place of the quote, cool to learn that it was all juat an error
@AndrewStro Well, certain ports of SF2 had Ryus quote fixed with Dragon Punch instead of Sheng Long. Like SSF2 The New Challengers on Super Nintendo for example.
he's a very efficient strong awesome character , can do 2 hadokens mid air , have a spinning air kick like ken in turbo street fighter 2 ( doin combo damage ) and his shoryuken goin more inside deep range fire like ken in super street fighter 2 , he's a combination of ryu + ken + akuma 💯💥👊🏼👍🏼😎
I was at an antique shop and this arcade game of street fighter 2 was in there it was off on display for sale. It had instructions for the moves on it with little pictures and one of them had sheng long doing a upper cut like Ryu and Ken couldn't c the face but same body shape as Ken and Ryu it was on the bison round stage so i thought the rumors were true
Great watch, thx so much! :) Just for fun: But in todays romanizations of chinese names, his name is spelled Shenglong or Sheng-long. Its only his given name. All SF2 characters are only listed either by their given name or surname, like Ryu, Ken, Guile, Zangrief, E. Honda, M. Bison, Sagat, Vega, etc., nobody is listed with given- and surname. This is why Chun Li or Fei Long should also be spelled Chunli and Feilong, because its only their given names, not a given name and surname.
I don't remember Shang Long being unlockable in Street Fighter II maybe he didn't make the cut for the US version then again I played it on super Nintendo
Nah, he's just a rumored character. He was never meant to be a playable character except for SF2 the movie the arcade game. But unfortunately, he was left unfinished.
I was the biggest Street Fighter fan growing up and I have never seen this. Can someone explain this? How is he using this character? I know there was no way to play Sheng Long since he was never a real character. I heard Sheng Long was interpreted wrong from Japanese translation and he was talking about the dragon punch not a person. So how is this character on street fighter 2?
@chrisl672 This is a Mugen game. It's a game where many fighting games can be created with custom characters and such. Many SF mugen games exist. Including ones with Sheng Long as a boss or being playable character. Despite only being a rumor. People recreated his designs for these games. It's not a arcade rom or anything. Just Mugen
@@GekiPurple thank you for responding with an explanation. I'm old now (46), long past the days of going to the arcade and putting a quarter up on the screen waiting my turn to play. That's pretty crazy that you can alter care characters like that
@GekiPurple ah ok. I clicked on the video to quick to get a description. I remember ryu mentioning him but never seen him in the game. Thanks for clearing that up then
@-1nterruption-960 Yeah, Sheng Long was a miss translation of Shoryuken from Ryus SF2 win quote. The quote was fixes in certain SF2 ports saying "You must defeat my Dragon Punch to stand a chance!". So Sheng Long sadly wasn't a real person/character. Just a rumor from old game magazines.
@cenkdemir6803 Well, Sheng Long, no joke was the inspiration for Akuma. So him and Gouken are the closest you'll get to having Sheng Long as a Playable character.
this isn’t gouken. the creator know shenglong is shouryu. this character is expanding the joke on the original quote “you must defeat sheng long to stand a chance” that appeared in some versions of sf2, which confused many non-mandarin speakers and generated lots fan theories in the early days.
The boss version of him which I played as is overpowered that's why this looks like it was on easy, he's pretty cheap. Although he is hard to fight as well. I had this on Medium lol
To me or from capcom? Cause sorry If I offended you. I was just tryna play a mugen. ._. *Edit: I woke up when I read this. My bad bro, I know what you mean. They screwed his ass in SF6.*
Why is this old ryu imposter thinks he is sheng long lol 😂 iv been playing street fighter from day 1 as im an 80's baby and surely he wasn't playable then or now
He's a rumored character, lol. He was never playable. Although he was supposed to be in the street fighter movie arcade game. But was left unfinished, apparently.
Who is Sheng Long? He was a made up April fools joke by gaming magazine electronic gaming monthly. See every year electronic gaming monthly would put a joke in their April issues that would try to be past off as real and who ever could figure out the joke won a prize. Each year it would change like one year it may be an article of a fake game that was to come out or in the case Sheng long a secret inside of the ver popular street fighter 2 that they put in their cheat section that year. And boy it hit everyone thought it was true and all sudden you started hearing rumors come out that a kid across town unlocked him. It was crazy so crazy electronic gaming monthly came out in the next issue I think and announced it as such. I cannot remember if that year some one had actually guessed it as their joke that year or not. But they said with all the ridiculous things they put in to how to unlock him they thought people would get the joke. But really quite the opposite people ran with it. I can only imagine a bunch of kids spending countless frustrating hours trying to do the long list of things to unlock him. In fact because of how popular this joke became it lead to the creation of the street fighter character who trained Ryu and Ken.
@explsvz4170 I know it's not much, but I was just curious to see how overpowered this dude was and I wanna maybe redo it with a new version of Sheng Long that my friend is making for Mugen.

The real master of haudoken is here.believe it or not.the original master before gouken and akuma
@@ultimoadventures6279 The one who never came to light
If he is real he will be OP
Indeed, sucks he was unfinished in SF the movie the arcade game.
I know you got mad when you had to block that fireball from sagat? You nearly had a whole flawless victory on every round perfect
Well I was a bit back then. But it's Sagat, he is the king of Muay Thai.
@@GekiPurple yh but to get perfect on everyone is hard work so sutten like that would annoy me.
He's way too overpowered for Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Indeed lol
I never unlocked him, still to this day still don’t know
@Truth4Freedom He's just a rumor, at one point he was gonna be in a street fighter game, but was left unfinished sadly.
He's real 😮
Sheng long is Street fighters Ermac to Mortal Kombat.
Ironically why didn’t Capcom capitalize and make this character!
@reddogg7787 Idk, probably because Akuma was already inspired by him. And we already got Gouken. That's the closest we'll ever get to Sheng Long.
何かシェンロンって瞬獄殺の無い豪鬼みたい。
That's pretty crazy that you can alter care characters like that
@@chrisl672 Yee
I thought he also had a sonic boom that he could throw along with the hadoken
Probably yeah
Wait... he's a character!?! All these years and I did not know this 😳😳
@-1nterruption-960 Nah this a mugen game. He was supposed to be a real character in a different SF game but was left unfinished.
@@GekiPurple interesting story behind it. Thanks again
@@-1nterruption-960 No problem
Fireballs faster than Sagat's... I can agree. Sagat lost that race a long time ago lol
🤣 True lol. But atleast him and Ryu made up.
@@GekiPurple true
We need this char in some SF2 hack to HBMAME. 😎
If it's possible I wouldn't mind seeing that. 👍🏼
Esse jogo é do super nintendo né
Respect the elders!!😀😀😄
Sheng Long was way too OP for that era.
@@S.C.-wo8hq Wait until you see how he was Rumored for SF3 New Generation.
Wow, he is cool. Too bad that he isn’t playable. He is like Akuma. I could use him as if I would have played as Sheng long
@cenkdemir6803 Well, Sheng Long, no joke was the inspiration for Akuma. So him and Gouken are the closest you'll get to having Sheng Long as a Playable character.
The music to the end credits is like a perfect remix of kens theme though.
Wait, di.... did he throw a sonic boom? lol
@@DblOSmith he did
Gouken, sheng long is shouryuken!
this isn’t gouken. the creator know shenglong is shouryu. this character is expanding the joke on the original quote “you must defeat sheng long to stand a chance” that appeared in some versions of sf2, which confused many non-mandarin speakers and generated lots fan theories in the early days.
Why were Ken and Ryu given the same moves for???!!
Because at the time, they were the same character sorta. But they became unique in their own ways as time went on.
@@GekiPurple Okay. I didn't actually realize that. How cool!
sagat is the only one that did damage to this long.
@@mangotango76pulp59 Indeed, he's a tough bastard lol
He must have this on easy lol.
The boss version of him which I played as is overpowered that's why this looks like it was on easy, he's pretty cheap. Although he is hard to fight as well. I had this on Medium lol
😂
He's too good for a red belt 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😮
This is the most disrespectful thing I’ve ever seen. I waited 35 yrs to see this..? And the SF6 version. Trash.
To me or from capcom? Cause sorry If I offended you. I was just tryna play a mugen. ._. *Edit: I woke up when I read this. My bad bro, I know what you mean. They screwed his ass in SF6.*
Sheng Long is actually Gotetsu master in Assassin's Fist movie.. He is the master from Gouken's master
Idk, I think they only added on the movie for the fans. Sheng Long is not an official character.
@@GekiPurple There's an Easter egg in the movie when Ryu and Ken check the Ansatsuken master board. The name of Sheng Long is before Master Goutetsu
@Real life Droopy Poodle Ah mkay, that's a pretty good reference.

You just weren't good enough to unlock him.
@S.C.-wo8hq Lol true, but if he even was in SF3, he either would be easier or harder to fight than Gill.
@@CrazyHomelessWeirdo Man ya'll quick to educate gamers on this with me. Thank you!
