The one standing on the top row with the beard and tears in his eyes is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known opera singers. What does it say about her performance if she could move him to tears? She is a very, very rare polyphonic dramatic contralto, the deepest and darkest female voice, with tremendous range and control.

To me, her voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course of the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles. Diana is magical. I'd recommend you view Rechenka (Russian Folk). It's her signature performance really. Dernière Danse (French song) is probably her most viewed, most played song (hundreds of millions of combined views). It's in French and you can find multiple performances at multiple ages on her official TH-cam channel (I prefer the small stage live performance when she was 16). Diana is very artistic, there are so many talents in this young lady, and what a beautiful voice she has - it's just incredible, I have the impression that she was born on stage, and this is her life. Lisa, welcome to the extraordinary voice of Diana Ankudinova! For those that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!". Diana’s cover of this Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love", shows Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound, and for those that don’t know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. First, let me answer a very common question asked about Diana's vocal range. At 14 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, 4 years later at age 18, her lower functional range was measured from a C3 to her upper range measured at B♭5. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's all about the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. How does Diana Ankudinova do it? How can such a young female singer reach such a low, rich, deep sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals attributes Diana’s sound to the unique vocal anatomy she was born with which is unique and specific to her. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer than most other female singers and thicker than most other female singers. Her larynx also appears to be bigger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than most other female singers. It’s this anatomy that gives her the ability to produce these low, deep, rich, and full sounds, but without actually scoping Diana’s vocal track there is no way to be 100% sure. To really appreciate the vocal progression of Diana Ankudinova’s contralto sound, listen to "Rechenka", a Russian folk song sung in Russian for a vocal competition called "You Are Super!" during their 2018 Season when Diana was only 14 years old. Next listen to her cover of Chris Izaak's, "Wicked Game" the following year when she was only 15 years old during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of “You Are Super”. Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which is an extraordinarily rare accomplishment for someone so young. A singer who has mastered this vocal technique can create up to two, and sometimes three different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing because this is what a polyphonic singer can do. This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using auto-tune, a voice synthesizer, or pitch correction software, or some other artificial form of electronic voice manipulation to alter or adjust her sound. Others think another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice of any kind going on at all. This is a very prestigious vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use only the equipment provided to her as all other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her to bring in, let alone set up, calibrate and test any extra electronic vocal manipulating equipment. What you are hearing is all Diana Ankudinova. Female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age; some reach it a little sooner, others, a little later. I am thinking Diana Ankudinova is already well ahead of schedule in reaching her vocal maturity. I look forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach full vocal maturity. When she does she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage live performance skills. When that day comes, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a vocal force to be reckoned with and a wonder to behold on stage. Diana took part in the “ ShowMaskGoOn on” vocal competition in September of 2021 where she performed her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that compete against each other and also award judging points to each other. When Diana is not competing she is a member of this judging panel. During Diana’s performance, the judge on the top row that stands up first is the famous Russian tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan who is married to the world-famous soprano Anna Netrebko. The blond woman also standing that’s dressed in red and looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance, then puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total bewilderment and disbelief is Karina Koks, also a well-known contemporary Russian singer. Karina Koks also knows at some point, she has to compete against Diana Ankudinova and knows she is also witnessing a, once-in-a-generation talent. Finally, again Diana won this competition.

You made a lot of good observations that dovetail with my own. I never fail to be moved by her performances, even ones I’ve watched many, many times. She’s a force of nature and utterly unique.
All of the judges for this show were professional singers. The one standing on the top row with the beard and tears in his eyes is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known opera singers. What does it say about her performance if she could move him to tears? She is a very, very rare polyphonic dramatic contralto, the deepest and darkest female voice, with tremendous range and control.

To me, her voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. And, if you know her back story, there is the added poignancy of realizing how far she’s come, how strong and resilient she must be. I’m often moved to tears watching her. Greetings from Scotland! As you said, this is Diana's life! At 18yo (then) to be able to take 2 lines from the song, drop to a minor key to add mystery, go very low and breathy at the start but building through 4 octaves to the crescendo like that! WOW! An absolute genius vocalist! I've lost count how many times I've heard this but I ALWAYS get teary, my heart misses a beat or 3, my breathing almost stops and it punches a huge hole in my soul - every time!
Just imagine if some "sensible" film producer ever asked Diana to do the theme for a blockbuster movie - how it could sound if he let her work her special magic on it! I hope that happens some day!

Great reaction, so glad you returned to Diana! This performance was from a Russian show that aired last fall, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course of the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.

Diana is magical. I'd recommend you view Rechenka (Russian Folk). It's her signature performance really. Dernière Danse (French song) is probably her most viewed, most played song (hundreds of millions of combined views). It's in French and you can find multiple performances at multiple ages on her official TH-cam channel (I prefer the small stage live performance when she was 16). The songs from Diana's official TH-cam channel all have good English subtitles if you turn them on. btw her name is pronounced Dee-AHH-nah in Russia instead of DIE-anna as in the West. Lisa, welcome to the extraordinary voice of Diana Ankudinova! For those that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!". Diana’s cover of this Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love", shows Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound, and for those that don’t know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare.
First, let me answer a very common question asked about Diana's vocal range. At 14 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, 4 years later at age 18, her lower functional range was measured from a C3 to her upper range measured at B♭5. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's all about the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
How does Diana Ankudinova do it? How can such a young female singer reach such a low, rich, deep sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals attributes Diana’s sound to the unique vocal anatomy she was born with which is unique and specific to her. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer than most other female singers and thicker than most other female singers. Her larynx also appears to be bigger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than most other female singers. It’s this anatomy that gives her the ability to produce these low, deep, rich, and full sounds, but without actually scoping Diana’s vocal track there is no way to be 100% sure. To really appreciate the vocal progression of Diana Ankudinova’s contralto sound, listen to "Rechenka", a Russian folk song sung in Russian for a vocal competition called "You Are Super!" during their 2018 Season when Diana was only 14 years old. Next listen to her cover of Chris Izaak's, "Wicked Game" the following year when she was only 15 years old during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of “You Are Super”.
Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which is an extraordinarily rare accomplishment for someone so young. A singer who has mastered this vocal technique can create up to two, and sometimes three different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing because this is what a polyphonic singer can do. This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using auto-tune, a voice synthesizer, or pitch correction software, or some other artificial form of electronic voice manipulation to alter or adjust her sound. Others think another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice of any kind going on at all. This is a very prestigious vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use only the equipment provided to her as all other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her to bring in, let alone set up, calibrate and test any extra electronic vocal manipulating equipment. What you are hearing is all Diana Ankudinova.
Female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age; some reach it a little sooner, others, a little later. I am thinking Diana Ankudinova is already well ahead of schedule in reaching her vocal maturity. I look forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach full vocal maturity. When she does she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage live performance skills. When that day comes, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a vocal force to be reckoned with and a wonder to behold on stage.
Diana took part in the “ ShowMaskGoOn on” vocal competition in September of 2021 where she performed her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that compete against each other and also award judging points to each other. When Diana is not competing she is a member of this judging panel. During Diana’s performance, the judge on the top row that stands up first is the famous Russian tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan who is married to the world-famous soprano Anna Netrebko. The blond woman also standing that’s dressed in red and looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance, then puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total bewilderment and disbelief is Karina Koks, also a well-known contemporary Russian singer. Karina Koks also knows at some point, she has to compete against Diana Ankudinova and knows she is also witnessing a, once-in-a-generation talent. Finally, again Diana won this competition.
