The Tech Reviewer I’ve had it for the 6 and 7 plus but never really liked the built in screen protector. The new one has some design changes like with the diagonal lines for grip on the bottom and not the sides like 7 plus. It’s not as square as the 7 plus and best of all there’s no built in screen protector so now I can use a glass one. Wireless charging works too! Next case I’m thinking about getting is the pelican shield. I’ve used pelican before and have been pleased.
I remember the old iPhone 3g and 3GS cases. They had much more detail like a glass cover for the camera and a much more sealed design overall. Bulky but they worked well.
Hi! Having a little trouble getting the mute switch to work properly when fitting the case. Have tried all combinations of having the phone in mute position or loud, with the case switch in the "forward" and "back" positions... Is there something I'm missing to get the actual phone mute switch to fit underneath the case's mute switch?
Hi Miguel! It sounds like you might have a defective case--it shouldn't be that hard to get the mute switch working correctly. I recommend that you reach out to OtterBox regarding this. Good luck, and sorry for your difficulty!
I remember for the 5s it was a waterproof case to fight thr fre/nude seried but then they bought lifeproof... So they scrapped it.. The 5s series had many issues, like the ones noticed here. Mine had a broken mute switch after a couple of days, thrre was an o ring around thr phone and foam back like the defender. Yep now i bet the X has similar issues with out that waterproof ability
Thanks for your reply. I wasn't reviewing cases back in the 5s days, so I'm not familiar with the product you are describing, but that's good info to have...
I love this review of yours.. although, how are you removing this case? I used a coin to open it and the bottom part seems to chip away. Or can you remove it without using a coin? It bothers me so much as it gets easily damaged.
The material it is made of is very similar to the LifeProof FRE cases, and just like them, it is a slightly soft plastic which will deform when you put a lot of pressure against a hard object like a coin. It doesn't affect its usability, but I agree that it is a little unsightly. If you want to avoid damaging it with a coin, you can try to peel away the case from the sides of the phone, and separate it that way, but that is pretty hard when the case is on the phone. When the case is empty, it is easy to separate the case into its two halves in that manner, but not so much when it is occupied. Case removal is the biggest downside of the Pursuit...
The Tech Reviewer thank you so much.. didnt realize thats possible, that is very informative. Thank you! Anyway, what do you do with the cases you’re reviewing after?
Love your videos, my wife is really hard are her phones and I have always used otterbox defenders cases but you mention the pursuit is better. Do you go into more detail why somewhere else? Is there a video where you explain why one is better than another? Thanks in advance.
Hi iFone Fan. OtterBox is a little different in the way they describe their cases. Most manufacturers list drop heights and mil-spec ratings, but OtterBox just says its cases are tough and drop protective, and that they pass OtterBox's strict in house testing standards. They do, however, say which case is their toughest...and that case has always been the Defender, until the advent of the Pursuit. They now state that the Pursuit is their toughest, beating out the Defender. They don't give a specific breakdown of reasons, and I don't personally do drop testing, so I can't tell you why the Pursuit is supposed to beat the Defender in toughness. From a usability standpoint, it is certainly more pleasant to use, due to its thinner profile and nicer hand feel. The lack of a built in screen protector seems less tough...but the Defender for the iPhone X is also screen protector free, so that isn't really a fair comparison. In addition, as I mention in the review, the OtterBox Alpha Glass screen protector is compatible with the Pursuit, so that is certainly an option to bolster protection in that area, if needed. Hope this helps!
Steve Ronald Salinas , I know right! I did it in my sleep the other night, then the next time I attempted it (conscious this time) I come very close to breaking it getting it apart... 🤷🏼♂️🤔🤦♂️
Hi Richard. In my opinion, all the phone manufacturers put more effort into iPhone cases than any other phone type. I think the market for iPhone cases is huge, so they care more about making iPhone cases...
Blake Spivey I went back a couple days later and I saw the black ones marked down too. But when I bought my clear ones when they were rang up they rang up at 20 bucks but because they were tagged with a yellow $10 sticks that’s what I got them for lol
Omg, I remember having this case.. I am just so glad that they had upgraded/improved their pursuit series..
Hi Jan! Yes, this year's version is a significant improvement over the previous year's version.
I love the defender on my iPhone X.
Had you tried previous generations of Defenders on other iPhones? Is the new version much different? I haven't gotten a chance to check it out...

Good to hear! I'll have to check it out...
Kazak Thranduil I’ve had them since the 4. My first iPhone was the 3g.
I prefer buttons that are a little harder to press. Too many times I end up turning on my phone or calling SOS because of easily presse buttons.
Is the back of the Pursuit all plastic or are the bumpers rubber? I am looking for a case for my iPhone XR that has a non-slip, rubber backing. Thanks

my only issue is how hard the buttons are to press other than that im pretty impressed with this case
:)
I put a small piece of paper on all the buttons before snapping the case together. Make sure they're lined up. No button issues afterwards
Interesting!
I can’t get it off!
Alyssa Johnson use a quarter where the plastic piece peels away.
Yep...
Got it. Thank you!
Mine cracked when I used a quarter

Is there a removal kit
No, sorry :( The version of the Pursuit for iPhone X is quite hard to remove, and there is no special removal kit :(

There is an iPhone XR version, yes...

is the serial number engraved or still on a sticker? i did not see it from your video
it is on the back of the box
is this to see if the case is actually authentic?
No it’s to do a warranty claim with someone else’s serial number so you won’t have to buy one
I’m having a hard time taking this off my phone c
It is not very easy to remove :(
Do you know if this case fits properly with a glass screen protector?
I believe it should work with OtterBox's own Alpha Glass screen protector, but I haven't tried it personally..
I can’t for the life of me remove this damn case
Steve Ronald Salinas , I know right! I did it in my sleep the other night, then the next time I attempted it (conscious this time) I come very close to breaking it getting it apart... 🤷🏼♂️🤔🤦♂️
No issues with my clear back pursuit. Love the case
Awesome :)
as usual, great review! thanks for the details!!
Thanks so much!
How do you remove it?
You have to kind of pry it off. It isn't easy...
Why does Otterbox seem to invest more design effort into the iPhone cases? This is totally different from the Pursuit cases for Samsung phones.

Nice looking case . It would not work for me because I like to change my cases often. Once again awesome review!
Thanks, James :)
Does the wireless charging still work with this car ?
Yes indeed!
Someone who was working at walmart made a mistake and tagged one for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 for 10 bucks I picked both of them up lol!!
randall mccrea it’s not a mess up, they had them all for 11 bucks at my walmart
