I mean when you think about it, Infinite was meant to be a parody of them Super Edgy DA Sonic OCs. Overpowered, has some relation/connection to Shadow, the only thing missing was the OTP. Problem was the character was instead of playing it as satire, they played it straight and took itself too seriously. Hence why they never followed up on him.
They literally had the opportunity to make a sonic villain be stupidly edgy and not have anyone take him seriously, that would have been amazing but they squandered it.
