I don't know why the band is named Nirvana, but it's a good thing he changed the name after the band name was Skid Row, that band name was originally a hair metal band since 1986. Kurt Cobain could have gotten to court for stealing the name. Since he knew about the real Skid Row, he changed it to different names, he could have ended up as Bliss instead of Nirvana. Nirvana sounds nothing like a grunge name, it was originally an English cult type of band since 1965.
