Thanks for watching, friends! What has helped your child build their confidence in reading?

Thank you so much for your help on this! I've been doing volunteer reading with kids at a library and I've been looking for ways to help kids that aren't as confident in their reading abilities. You rock!

One thing I did to help my child to love reading (esp. Social Studies and Science stories) is to read along with her. We would read a story twice. When the kids read the story for the first time, she would focus on the written words and some extent on the gist of the story. So, first time, I would let her read the story aloud by herself, occasionally helping as required. And the second time, the story comes more alive this time. I would offer to read alternate lines to make it fun and finish the second time quickly, so she would feel accomplished. And the second time reading is so beneficial and it helps the child with increase in comprehension. So, that's one of the things that I do to help my daughter read and love reading.

This is such a great strategy! Rereading a story is so great for comprehension. Do you and your daughter have any favorite books you like to read together?

Tip #6. Definitely seeing that with my 4th grader now. I'm trying to pull my face out of the screen and put it into books more now

You are not alone! I am getting more conscious of my screen time too now that I see little eyes watching me and mimicking everything I do!

I searched this up for myself and I am 15. I’m dyslexic and wish I was into reading, but I find it extremely difficult to read even with glasses on. Maybe if I get more interested in the book I might read it? I use to LOVE graphic novels because they were easy to follow and I love art, but now that I’m older I want to read other genres and seeing that I’m going into higher years levels, it’s becoming a necessity to be a fast reader.

That's so great that you are bettering yourself! Read what you love! Look into books that also have an audio version. Listening to audiobooks also count as reading! And if you want to continue to improve with "traditional" reading, I would look into the Barton Reading and Spelling System. It is a curriculum specifically catered for learners with dyslexia.

Graphic novel is not a genre, it is a MEDIUM.

Thanks for this video! My younger brother, he’s 11 this year and still have some difficulties to read because he rarely practice reading. When I ask him to read or try to get his interest on reading, its kinda hard because he’s always rejected. Im trying to find how do I make him want to read?

Hi Wan! Is your brother into listening to audio books? That is another way I got my son into reading. Also, reading doesn't have to be "books," magazines, comic books, reading online can count as reading too! Hope this is helpful!
