  • Introduction:
    This is the era of the RISE of EBIKES, i am a believer ebikes will revolutionise the way we travel - so i decided to jump on the band wagon. I'm based in Australia and recently bought a 2019 Giant Quick E+ where these bikes are limited to 25kph. This is a great setup for a commuting work bike, with wide tyres, mud guards, inbuilt front/back lights. The electronic assist helps tackle hills with ease, but the speedbox 2 modification is something of a different experience.
    Have a look at the Speedbox2 modification to see if its something you would want to do. Keep in mind, this modification will void your warranty for your new bike.

    The Quick-E+ features a compact SyncDrive Sport motor that delivers smooth and instantaneous power-which blends seamlessly with your own pedalling power so you can float up hills, dial up your speed, and do it all with greater ease. With an ALUXX SL aluminium frame and a powerful SyncDrive Sport motor that produces 80Nm of torque and a 500Wh battery.

    What tuning (if any, I guess none?) is available for "low-end" e-bikes (£400) such as the Alfawise X1 (mine), Fido, etc? I can reach 17MPH which is poop. With pedal-power, I can reach 21 MPH. I get overtaken by pushbikes sometimes. How did you learn how to install the Speedbox? Where can we learn?

    I have an identical bike and find I can easily get over 100 km (even up to 140 km) on eco mode, but, when you select the high power settings, the battery does drop much more quickly. On the other hand it really is a whole lot of fun when you just let it go. I am extremely happy with mine.

I only notice the boost when I take of from stationary position or going uphill and slow down pedaling to under 15km/h, other than that if there's pedal assist, I don't notice it. I have to pedal really hard to even get to 25km/h speed. Is this normal for this particular model and is there any way I can check if bike is running as it's supposed to? It's the first e-bike i have tried so I don't have any reference point to compare with. Thanks!

The bike has a few pedal assist modes - eco, normal, sports, sports+ if you have the bike in eco/normal i find i do have to pedal allot harder. Hi so I have a giant 2020 e+ stance bike. It has no screen on it and uses ride control one. I bought a speed box to unlock it. The speed box hooks up just fine. However when I turn it on with the ⬆️⬇️ ⬆️⬇️ that is used on bikes with no display, it doesn’t work. The bike rides perfectly fine but when I hit 20 mph (the maximum legal speed). One of the lights on the ride control one config lights up red and flashes and motor support is throttled and turns off. From online research I have discovered this means there is a speed sensor issue and taking out the speed box 2 fixes the problem but then I am limited to 20mph and that really sucks. Is there anyway I can solve this problem with the speed box 2 or should I try purchasing another hacking kit?

    • @BlazedReefer
      @BlazedReefer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you buy the correct speed box as there is older versions of the Yamaha drive, ive just ordered the speedbox 2.0 for my stance E+ but i made sure i ordered the 2017-2020 motor version?

    • @theangkorwatt3468
      @theangkorwatt3468 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kali Exclusive yes I ordered the same one as you did. It doesn’t work on my bike, but I actually don’t need help anymore. I watched a TH-cam video on how to unlock it for free. All you have to do is move the speed sensor closer to the crank and put the magnet on the inside of the crank. The magnet has to be close enough to the sensor so that each rpm is read by the magnet. You can never turn the crank fast enough to make the sensor think your hitting 20 mph, since the back wheel turns at insanely higher rpms. Therefore the bike is fully hacked and gives full motor support. There is a video on how to do this on TH-cam, the guy has a different giant bike but the concept is the same and works on my 2020 e+.

      You probably did see the speed varies in the video around 25 - 45kph, i found it a little bit harder on the high end mainly because i topped out in gears and i was pedalling furiously - but i was by no means exerting myself. If i was on my road bike, i'll be working pretty hard to even maintain 40kph, but i was having no troubles on the ebike. You probably know as a cyclist there are lots of factors that affect speed, such as the wind drag from your body, your fitness level and weight, These will still have an impact on a pedal assist ebike as well as a road bike in my opinion. I might look more into gear combinations to see what i can do to get more speed gains :)

Also getting the goddamn box into the engine bay is an absolute mission, prepare for scratched parts/ strippped bolts - I am pretty handy and it was an absolute mission (probably more that i had to do it 10 times ha - and make sure you have a crankwheel tool as its super hard without one - I think I will get the badassbox instead, incorrect speed readings but it will be delimited.

    The only problem is this, the battery won’t last that long, due to its constant use, where as, at 15.5 mph, the momentum pushes it to 16.5, freeing the need for battery power, and also resting the motor ( so less stress on both battery and motor )

      I purchased one ☝️in July. I have the unrestricted Quick E+. I live in 🇺🇸. I have 600 Miles on the bike. Only maintenance I’ve done was a chain and sprocket cleaning with dry lube on the chain. I removed the chain to clean it because the chainring doesn’t go in reverse for the park tools cleaning kit. One thing I do is to let the motor cool down on a long ride before I head back home. This will extend the life of the motor. I do this on hot days when the motor is working extra hard. I seen a guy on TH-cam who explains how to prolong the life of an e bike motors so u don’t have to have an early motor overhaul which will only be motor bearing, gear replacement, and rubber seal replacement. The job is not that hard.
      Enjoy ur bike for 10,000 Miles
      P.S. I love the Schwalbe Off Road Tires. They grip so good and help with bumps on the road. Those tires save me from 2 close calls. Guy bumped my handle bars and a rock caused my tire to slip in a turn at 18 mph😇

      In some countries (i.e. New Zealand and South Africa) these bikes come standard with a 45km/h limit, in Australia they limit ebikes by law, to 25km/h for Safety reasons, so i think the Yamaha can defintiely handel the extra load. The 2019 model all come with a 500w battery. Haha.. the 99km/h only really means the speed limit is unrestricted. The bikes restricted by design in the gearing groupset, a bigger front chain rink would be nice, the bike probably needs to shed some weight as well, and more torque from the yamaha motor :) i wanted to go 99km/h - its called a motorcycle :) Have you heard of the Volt XT1600? watch this - th-cam.com/video/vLAv21wD6NE/w-d-xo.html fastest ebike i've ridden.

    Why don't you just buy a motor bike, it's cheaper. Youd also have some sensible rules, training and insurance.

    And if someone pulls out in front of you, will you die immediately, or will you cost taxpayers (and insurance payers!) a heap with your hospital/doctors salaries?

      Hi Matt, Gary from Cape Town South Africa as well. I bought a Giant Quick-E+ 2018 in December 2018 from Canada and imported to South Africa. In Canada it is limited to 32km/h. I commute to work and back every day 17.5km per trip, Blouberg to Paarden Eiland. Love the Giant Quick-E+ 2018 bike, quality comes at a price and worth it compared to a cheap chinese or modified normal bikes that will give you issues. I used the magnet to pedal trick and am now getting 45km/h and it is just awesome. Uses more battery but all good as short commute trips and on the way home i turn off the motor to get a work out. My concern was also that the higher speed and risks to the Yamaha motor or parts, but as you pointed out the Giant E-bikes are sold in South Africa and by default go 45km/h so i have also concluded that same assumption that its safe. I am also fortunate to be able to cycle on a dedicated bicycle double lane all the way to work so i am totally off the main roads which does reduce the ca risk. Loving my Giant and thanks for the video.

      Not even close to how much billions asshat motorists like you cost the taxpayer in infrastructure & maintenance, let alone the needless deaths caused by douchebag drivers like you.

      Nope. Injuries are unwelcome at any time so your concern should be with those who pull out in front of someone. Besides, speed delimiters are illegal almost everywhere and are never used on the street or trail. well...maybe occasionally...kinda...sorta
