The Midsommar movie fits SO well with Red Velvet where it's suuuuper unsettling and something always just feels...off..., but with the most gorgeous scenery and settings. The dresses up in the tree reminded me of the collection of pizza boy shirts in glass cases in peekaboo
The ending scene says that the mv is inspired by the movie Midsommar! If you haven't seen it this mv might be a bit harder to understand but it's basically a very odd and creepy horror movie based in Sweden :)
The video basically follows up from their teaser video where they're in an alt universes where us, the fans, don't exist. They end up leaving that universe to come to this planet where they wait for fate to drop us down from the sky so they can bring us into their cult. They know that at the end of the day we have to leave so rather than sacrifice us they try to get us to stay on their planet because they'll be lonely if we leave
@@vjewldOh, I feel the same way. After 'Psycho', I never thought I'd ever like another of their title tracks as much, but 'Chill Kill' came out and it became my favorite as soon as I heard it for the first time...
My interpretation of the MV is that they're all living in a world in which the night is dangerous and lonely so they sacrifice people to keep the sun shining for a little bit longer (hence the hanging dresses), but to keep the sun shining permanently they need someone not of this world, aka the person falling in the beginning. Through the ritual they perform during the bridge they're able to achieve their dream of eternal sunshine and live happily ever after. (But lowkey if we're following the Midsommar lore, they all sacrificed themselves with the fallen person and are presumably dead at the end)
I think Cosmic is one of my fav title track of them!! And I agree, iced coffee is literally THE song!!! it’s so so goodddd FALLING IN YOUR EYES FALLING IN YOUR ICE YEAH YOU GOT ME LIKE ICED COFFEE😩 ok sorry lol
same RV wearing those red costumes was the death of me. Wendy doing that smooth body roll and irene Seulgi whispering has some Monster vibes. Unnie Line killed it. The Maknae line did not slouch either. I love the color of Joy's voice here and her look. That dark, naughty smile, and Yeri just absolutely beaming and so pretty! I love the cake girls.
Wow i'm so early!!! But yes IRENE will be coming out with a solo soon and funny that you mentioned ASEUL unit because you have to brace yourself since Seulgi said that they are considering a comeback sooooon
7:58 if you watch the BTS for the MV, them breaking the couch was 100% unattentional and the couch just couldn't handle all of them sitting on it😭😭😭😭 It's cute that they decided to keep it in though
thank you for always supporting red velvet, i often replay your rection for red velvet, especially killing voice (i always sing with youu). love you soo muchh
caitlin! i hope you post your album reaction highlights on here too :D it's super great and probably my favorite! but that may be because of recency bias.
Always admire how you spot things in music videos that often, I did not notice. Great the way you explain with knowledge about other Red Velvet songs you prefer and why. You just don't sit there, pulling various faces saying: "Ayyy," every now and then. Good job.
So I love horror movies and have seen the movie a few times... the way the MV kinda follows the movie almost to a tee... the disney version is RV plays the creepy, murderous cult in the movie, the girl who fell from the sky is either their sacrifice or their next initiate, depending on how well she "accepted" their values and traditions like the maypole dance (when they were dancing in the field). The trippiness is an ode to the cult consistently drugging the people who come in contact with them. As for the other visuals (the burning sunroom and the flower eyes)... the movie equivalent is a lot darker and not for the faint of heart. Kudos to them for choosing such a disturbing movie to portray lmao
Thank you soo much for react.... This song is so magical. The album is awesome, not skip for sure. "Last Drop" is so smooth, "Bubble" is a punky, fun and fresh song and "Night Drive" is definitely one of my fav songs of RV, the perfect ending of the EP. Love RV so much. Love U Cait, nice day
I have been waiting for this reaction! Thank you. Personally this is one of my favorites from them. It’s got a perfect mix of happy and sad and just feels like you’re levitating , especially during the bridge. Also yes, Irene is having a solo this year and Iced Coffee is a certified gem.
YAYYYYY Red Velvet reaction!!!!!! WOOHOO! The chorus is extremely addictive, and the contrast between the verse and the chorus is so so so nice. The whole album is so good. This song is better and better every time I hear it.
I think the gist of the MV story is they needed to sacrifice the girl to become the second sun of their planet. That's why when she fell through the glass during the bridge she became a sun. Smth along those lines xD
Bulldozer was one of my favourite songs from the chill kill album tbh and I feel like no one talked about that song- it’s so good and I wish more people talked about it:,) red velvet’s b-sides are always so good tho
I don't know I just feel so emotional with cosmic I really like everything about it and the album is great to as always 😭💗💗 + Irene made her first photo exhibition !! but unfortunately it's not a solo drop🥲
I think in the video it was similar to the movie in the sense that they were trying to convert the outside to be apart of their cult and no matter how many times she tries to escape they capture her again. And then at the end she is crowned and is apart of their cult
Idk if someone already explained something in the comments, but I'm gonna tell you about the movie since it's one of my favorites. My explanation may contain spoilers tho, so be aware if someone wants to watch it for the first time. :b I'm starting with the real life festivity with the same name: It has its origin in Sweden, and it's a pagan celebration to the Summer Solstice. In almost the last part of the MV you can see a lot of scenes of the girls dancing around a pole decorated with ribbons and flowers, and that's one of the main activities people do on this holiday. Also, this celebration has a mystical and more spiritual sense: people welcome magic creatures who can show the future and the flowers acquire magical qualities; so young women must collect 7 different flowers, silently, and put them under their pillows when they go to sleep, so they'll be able see their future husband in their dreams. Then, it comes the actual movie, which is based on the real celebration, but way too creepier. Dani, the main character, goes to a remote village for the celebration with her bf and some friends, but all the villagers end up doing creepy traditional activities (and, due to my investigations, I found out some of them were real during the medieval years, or even before) and cause -veeery explicitly and violently- almost everyone's death during the movie, except for Dani, who is chosen as the May Queen instead (after living all those traumatic events, lol). That title is given to the girl who can last the longest during a dancing competition around the pole I told you before. In the MV, I assume that the person the girls were chasing is the May Queen, but she was chosen before every ritual this time. She maybe represents Reveluvs getting into the Red Velvet's universe (or sect, lmao) without a chance to escape, BAHAHA As a fact, a lot of scenes in the MV are an actual representation of the most shocking (not necessarily in a good way) scenes in the movie. The part of the flowers in the eyes is one of them. And the (kind of) tapestry at the beginning of the MV, is almost the same one at the beginning of the film. Hope it helps a little!
Musically it's very Red Velvet meets ABBA (and I love it, especially disecting which sounds remind me of which parts of ABBA songs) and very fittingly the video is Red Velvet meets Midsommar :D
how i interpreted the lyrics : basically they are all like intergalactic beings who can travel across the planets and stars and some girl stumbles onto their star, she wants to find her way back to her home star or whatever but red velvet slowly start thinking about how they want her to stay there maybe to sacrifice to their star idk 😭 cus its lonely there, so they hunt her down and sacrifice her with their lil cute flower ritual and then they happy the end lmk how close or far i was
Red Velvet Always Making Music that Always highlights every single detail with the vocals and ad-libs Yeri has been attacking me with her presence and charisma
Even though its inspired my Midsommar, as a horror fan and midsommar lover, it's more so inspired by the cinematography and festival rather than the actual plot line so you're all good if you haven't watched it because it won't really help you understand the plot of the mv too much haha XD
ive heard great things abt midsommar but never watched it myself, its a very disturbing film so i never expected rv to pull ideas from it! but honestly it tracks with them 1000%
8:05 the funniest part is that the members begged the producers to include that clip in the mv
The funniest part is that it was wasn’t staged 😭 red velvet always laughing like crackheads
WenJoyRene just freezing there while Yeri and Seulgi immediately try to flee the scene is so fcking funny too, true sibling behaviour

LMAOOO you right 😭😭😭💀
To be fair tho it’s not a horror movie In the normal sense but it definitely it’s uncomfortable. I’m excluding that movie hahaha
I teared up when the last chorus hit. I cant believe it’s been 10 years since they debuted!
