      He and BosnianBill already invented a pretty neat pick for Disc locks. If they develop a lock which withstands even their attack methods (and which is relative cheap in production), lots of lock producing companies get into (well-deserved) trouble :) .
      Good secure locks already exist. Search BosnianBill's channel for Challenge locks he failed to pick (I think the keyword is "Whipped"); he got some locks with at least one so-called "Trap Pin".
      LPL came across several of them too during the years.
      Trap pin concepts usually leave the lock in an (at least temporarely) unuseable state which can only be reset by taking the lock out of the door so you have access to the trap pin mechanics.
      Unfortunately those locks are complex and not cheap. Some of the trap pin videos show the locks gutted so you see the additional things.

Need a good lock for the ball hitch on it, this probably won't be the one. They were talking about a tracker and a boot for the wheels, but I wonder if a good tongue lock and keeping the insurance paid up is the best route. The boot may just scream I am worth the effort to steal.

    • @gullreefclub
      @gullreefclub 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      William Williams What you have just recommend is Single Butt Cheek value engineering or as like to call it putting lipstick on a Pig because you still have not fixed the systemic problem. To get around your great fix all a person has to do is drill to the side of your 5/16 “case hardened screw” and push the latch in from the side. Or take a small torch or torch lighter and apply heat to the screw you loctited in and use a center punch and a hammer to walk your “case hardened screw” with some gentle tap tapping taps of the hammer because all loctite products soften/melt when heated. Lastly you would not want to use a “case hardened screw” because case hardening is a surface hardening process to make a screw/plug far more drill resistant you would need a thru hardened screw/plug. All that I wrote above is more or less a moot statement because the core of this lock is not made of decent metal itself as LPL pointed out in his first video about this lock. He stated that the core appeared to be made out of Zinc or other such metal and because of that is vulnerable to an attack by a propane torch where you just melt the core out of the lock. Sorry if I seem to be a bit harsh that was not my intention but rather to point out trying to polish a turd all you get is a shiny turd and this lock is a silver colored turd regardless of which way you look at it.

    Well looks to me like a work around to slow down the lock drilling would be fairly simple. On the tube the lock slips into simply weld a 4 inch extension to it. Cut a slot in the bottom of the tube extension enough to slip the lock up and then press the lock back into the locking position. Have a 1/4 to 1/2 inch plate end cap the diameter of the original tube welded on the end of the extension. Would be extremely difficult to try drilling the lock.

      Hello Tony G
      , Thanks for your comment. We have changed the lock, we are now using Medeco M3 cylinders standard in all of our stainless locks and we also added some more additional upgrades, like a deadbolt style lock so its not spring loaded and rotated the lock hole to the back. We sent one out to LPL and he received it 9/12/2019 so hopefully he will review it soon to show all the new improvements!! Thanks again for your thoughts.

    Hehe! I was called out to do a similar task to a brass body padlock with a Stanley best core, which was no longer engaging the mechanism to release the shackle. About 10 seconds to just drill a 3/16" hole through the side close to where the bearing is, and reach in and release the lock.

  • @soranuareane
    @soranuareane 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about welding/braising/tacking a hardened steel plate to the front of the lock? Would obscure the brand, obviously, but might it protect against this attack? Would need a friend with a welder, grinder, and some hardened steel, obviously. I'm thinking you'd need a relatively thick sheet of hardened steel to protect against the cheap drill bits.
    Barring that, what DO you recommend for a good puck lock, LPL?

  • @jaredvoorhees8617

    • @veraxis9961
      @veraxis9961 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You would be correct. No lock is truly unpickable or unable to be drilled or ground open given enough time and persistence. That said, a lock that is resistant to most unskilled picking or bypass techniques, and has enough physical toughness to require prolonged use of loud/conspicuous power tools to open is usually enough of a deterrent for many real-world applications.

    it is easy to drill a hole in a lock but it still takes a lot of knowledge about different brands of locks and their construction to know exactly where to drill. i don’t consider this a no skill attack. i don’t think every criminal is going to case their target and research the brand of lock to find their weaknesses then go back and precisely drill and open the lock

    This is very interesting, always worried about trailers getting stolen, had one at a service shop stolen because they used a very cheap 1/4" chain on the fence that was cut, probably with 24" bolt cutters. What kind of drill did you use to drill this lock? Carbide? Cobalt? Thank you.

    lol... every lock manufacturers best friend and worst nightmare... i guess those lawyers traits are showing ;-D
    Side note: from the looks of it with how 'soft' that steel was, going slow with a sharp bit, this could actually be done pretty damn quiet as well (definitely quieter than hooking up the same trailer said lock was securing)

    i think Proven Industries should either burn through more cutting tools making the lock or make a more drill resistant plate that could be placed inside to guard the locking lug.
    another way would be to make the locking lug have another pin on it like door latches so it hits a dimple in the back of the lock to lock the lug so even if you drill it the lug wont be pushed as it would have another pin that works like the security pin on door latches

    This is easy to fix. Put a harden steel metal blank inside the lock on top of the key way. It may not stop a drill attack but it would take longer than 15 seconds to drill.
