    I profess to be non violent, yet I find myself watching Kendo over and over and over again. I'm a grown man and I'm picking up the mop handle and swinging it. waiting for neighbors to call the police. I'm going nuts over this

      My friend. I too am a non violent person but I love, and practice, TKD. I am only interested in the art form and the exercise. But as a "side effect" I can defend myself. It is perfectly ok to sign yourself up for classes because you too are drawn to the art. Get to friend. And enjoy!

    So I'm thinking about starting kendo. can someone answer me why they shout whatever they are shouting at each other?

      Other answers are correct but you also have to call out which part of opponent's body you are striking when you are making a strike. You are supposed to stomp your foot as well.

      +Matt D not in shiai kendo or ippon shobu.or in general. stomping foot is part of making distance and correcting posture
