This Is Not America is based on how people always see America as the US, even they call the US America. When in reality, we are all americans, because America is a continent with multiple countries, the us is just one of them. So, the song explains the huge amount of issues and struggles Latin Americans deals with everyday in our countries, such as goverments, protests, police abuse, drugs, poverty... and more. The video makes a lot of references like Victor Jara, a musician murdered by chilean government, the issues that Brasil had with their former president Bolsonaro (he's like a Trump basically, or worse) and that's why they showed him eating and cleaning his mouth with the Brazil flag, because in latin america the government does not give a shit about us. Protests, indigenous people, police abuse... etc. In reference to the Childish Gambino song "This is America" Residente made the opposite idea and hes trying to say "This is NOT America. THIS (what he shows in the whole video) IS AMERICA".

The reason that there is "a lot going on" for anglos it's because you aren't aware of what happens in the whole of America. Calling the US "America" is what Anglos (english speakers) do. People who are Latino (Spanish/Portuguese) know that America is North America+Central America+South America+Caribbean=America. That's the reason for saying "This Is Not America", meaning that not only the USA is America but the rest is also America, There is no "Americas" there is only one "America". From Tierra Del Fuego to Canada.
the lyrics talk about a lot of the historical events, all of them true, that have happened in many countrys of América. Five presidents in eleven days happened in Agrentina in 2001, the guy getting shot at the stadium happened under a dictator in chile that got murdered Victor Jara, a musician that was critical of the goverment, they shit him in a statium after cutting of hus hands. There is a lot of historical references in the video, both in the lyrics and in the images, but the main message of the video is do not forget that the South is STILL part of the american continent therefore americans. I recommend listening to Latinoamerica by residente, i think that you guys will enjoy it
The woman from the beginning is named Lolita Lebron, who fired in front of the White House as a protest of Puerto Rico independence. The president of Brazil at that time (I do not remember his name) ordered to burn the Amazonas, destroying homes of the indigenous people who lived there and also, to clean himself with the flag of the country, it is like an insult.

I know it's a lot in the video and the reason a lot of people from the United States don't know about this is because it's not widely reported by the US media. The video shows the struggle that a lot of Latin countries suffer every day funded by big corporations like Amazon, oil corporations or soft drink corporation. He talks about specific incidence that happen from Argentina all the way up to Mexico and including the border with the United States by people being separated from their families. For example the first scene is a Puerto Rican lolita lebron that actually shot their gun in the senate floor.
I have not heard this before. It's pretty intense and thought provoking. I had to read the subtitles as well. I'm glad u reacted to this. Thank you!❤

The US fails to acknowledge a lot of its own history.. but a big issue is that they fail to acknowledge that they are the United States OF America and claim the title American to be their own when its not. Even now, in this reaction ..This video "takes place" IN America. But its not recognized as America bc it doesn't "look like the US".
Rene (RESIDENTE) makes an excellent point. The complex print, the fabric, the story and struggles of America is so much more than the U.S. issues brought up in that one Gambino song. Its intertwined from top to bottom and the imagery in the video are all historical references from our American history. I feel it is important to acknowledge that we are infact all 1. The rest of America does, why doesnt the U.S. when their role in the rest of the American countries has always been quite involved. (Alot of the Historical events that are scenes displayed in this video had U.S. involvement- Just saying) .

1.- Lolita Lebrón, a nationalist leader from Puerto Rico, was arrested in 1954 along with two other people for shooting at the United States Congress. She is one of the first characters to appear in the video of the Puerto Rican singer
2.- in the video, Resident refers to demonstrations in various Latin American countries. people shout at the Puerto Rico Police during the protests against Ricardo Rosselló in 2019
3.- the mother you see breastfeeding a child refers to the children in cages on the border between Mexico and the United States
4.- when you see, a guitarist is shot in the head, it refers to the murder of Chilean musician Víctor Jara: After the coup d'état by the dictator Augusto Pinochet, the musician Víctor Jara was detained and tortured by the Armed Forces: they cut off his fingers and his tongue. On the fourth day after his arrest, he was assassinated with more than forty shots, in the old Chile Stadium.

“This is in another country” fam that scene was in LA the pyramids represent what was there way before the “US” Los Ángeles (CA) along side 7 other states were Mexican states that the US stole.
I was going to answer your questions but other comments pretty much nailed it. So what I will say is that Residente is Puerto Rican and I know there is a lot of controversy from this song coming from him since Puerto Ricans like myself are colonized by the USA and we honestly do not go through half of the pain that South America and Central America go through including Cuba and other Caribbean countries as well. I do have to say that just because Puerto Rico is a US territory does not mean our history was not bloody in the past. Our ancestors were enslaved and tortured too, our past governments were corrupted and we do have things in history that hurt like El Grito de Lares, FBI Killing Filiberto Ojeda in his own home in front of his wife, Cerro Maravilla assassination from police brutality killing three student protestors after getting arrested. The navy protest in Vieques when the US Navy was bombing the island and killed civilians and many other tragic events. Just because we are "supposedly" considered Americans does not mean we are treated like Americans. We get a lot of hate just for that but Residente has traveled to different countries and he has seen and experienced what he sings. He is not just some Puerto Rican American, he represents the entire community of Latin America and it's sufferings too.

Hey brother, so yes what you had said earlier was 100% correct that is meant to signal companies that are worldwide. I’m sure you noticed the similarities of all those packaging‘s to that of certain companies Coca Cola, McDonald’s Starbucks and Amazon. These are big brand companies that sometimes do rely on extremely cheap labor or take mass amount of resources when example would be Coca-Cola that tends to over use the water leaving the native species defend for themselves practically, this is also a fault of that government hence why it’s not discriminating, but rather pointing at the issue that even if the person is from that place, they are born there they are not native. Also, the misconception of Americans is simply because of two reasons one it could stem from choosing a really shitty name. The United States of America would technically make you a USian . But this is showing more about how there was a world here before Europeans how we already had this world running so it is both a critique on modern society as well as the isolation and discrimination of native Americans both from south and North America, and how everybody is Americans, especially the ones that are by blood from here, I would say definitely appreciate you covering on this near many other songs, and artist you should listen to.
