    Very nice, thank you for the refresher. It's nice to have some confirmation that I actually am being pretty thorough with my coma assessments.

    What is the best treatment for pt who had cardiac arrest due to hypoxia and now is unconscious at the hospital?
    The pt does not respond to touch, eyes are glassy. He just moves his toes.

    Actually, a corneal reflex is elicited by touching the cornea, not conjunctiva. The cornea overlies the iris.

  • @Carabin33fr
    @Carabin33fr 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it's helpful for diagnosis : Coma is a symptom.. a cause must be found.. Without knowing the cause, we cannot treat. Little details orientate doctors.. example.. calm comas orientates toward a drug induced coma .. agitated comas orientate towards a hypoglycemic or a CO intoxication.. If there are asymetries in the motor response we can expect something organic (and not metabolic).. Example, Intra cerabral hematoma, or a tumor..
    IT's also helpful for prognosis..

      Why should he have been wearing gloves? This is only indicated if contact with blood/bodily fluids is anticipated. Otherwise, simple hand hygiene will suffice.

    I may be wrong but I think this is a conscious person (hence the amazing demonstration of the various reflexive responses). My reasoning is her eyes don't lag in the doll's eye test, and she isn't incubated (so her brain stem seems functional). Also not sure how many coma patients have shaved legs (it's possible but a little unexpected... prior laser hair removal is possible too)

    • @tezassss

      +Sharon Mitchell Duh...everybody watching this knows that the woman is clearly a nurse helping the doctor with the recording. She even follow every doctor's 'instructions to demonstrate each type of reflex responses. The real question is: Were you conscious when watching this?

    My nephew nearly drowned in a pool last weekend he was submerged in water for 4 mins and was resuscitate by paramedics. Now he remains in a coma state but he eyes remain open eyes rolled upwards in a fixed state. He is responsive if u tell him to lift his arms. Doctors rated him 7-8 Glasgow coma scale. Will he be able to recover?
