It's such a great movie because it takes the love triangle dynamic of this gag manga romantic comedy and instead shows how a love triangle like this would actually work in real life. Full of guilt, hurt and anguish.

    • @ak-t7d6f
      @ak-t7d6f 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

One of the reasons why I love this movie is because it doesn’t sugarcoat the ending of this love triangle *at all.*
It’s not just a breaking of a relationship but also friendships as the trio could never be the same again.
Ik Movie 2 tries to bring that trio back again but it’s not quite the same as the one it used to be from the TV series. The events of Movie 1 changed the lives of the Kyosuke, Madoka and Hikaru forever. Yet it was inevitable from the start that someone would get hurt by the end and not everyone will be happy, at least until they learned to move on.

@@ak-t7d6f To be fair, with Movie 2, it's many years after the events of Movie 1 and everyone is a full grown adult and enough time has passed for people to movie on. I know Movie 2 doesn't get a great rap but I enjoyed it overall and I think it's a fitting conclusion for the anime.

@@MrSuperjam789 Oh I loved Movie 2 to death. Its both good end and bad end at the same time, rather than just straight-up ripping your guts out, like Movie 1 tends to do (and no, that's not me saying its "bad" for doing so, just that its not emotionally satisfying, and often requires a certain emotional state to fully appreciate).
Movie 1 was definitely more "real life" which is why it hits harder
Movie 2 however required esper time travel shenanigans in order to put things back together again LOL

The scene with Kasuga talking to Madoka on the phone is so well done. The long awkward pauses, the fidgeting around trying to get comfortable while he listens, the fact that you only hear Madoka's voice and are forced to watch him pause and think about what to say next while he listens to her. There's no wacky shenanigans now to get him out of a tight spot, no awkward monologues telling the audience what he's thinking. Now he has to sit there and really commit to what he wants. The comically indecisive character now has to make a decision on what he wants in life, to say what he really thinks and has to choose between two people he cares about. This movie is a complete 180 from what the series was and I appreciate its rawness in comparison.

There is a more salacious interpretation of this conversation which I suppose they were classy enough to clean up in subtitle?

The serie in itself is about a teenage boy in a new town whose secret he can't tell is that he has ESP power.
He comes across 2 girls and thus goes a love triangle, very light hearted in with many exiting moments due to his and his family's magic.
The hero is dimwitted but still likable but the force of the serie resides in Ayukawa who has many layers and was elected as best female character for many years.
This movie ends the serie and shifts the tone but I think it is a welcome change to the serie wacky adventure as the chenanigans always reflected teenage spirit and were mostly due to the situation being stagnant.
Here it ends with the MC and Ayukawa making a real choice for their life

    • @ak-t7d6f

I disagree. This movie does justice to Hikaru's character. In the manga, she was completely oblivious to the fact that Kyosuke was seeing Madoka behind her back. It was through Manami that she found out. It wasn't even Kyosuke who broke it down to her. So in the end it made her look like a fool (she admits it in the manga too).
On the other hand in the anime, she reveals that she was aware of Kyosuke secretly loving Madoka but that she was trying hard so Kyosuke would give up on Madoka and look her way. But that doesn't happen. She doesn't accept it right away and almost becomes desperate to win Kyosuke back. I find this more realistic.
Whereas in the manga she just somehow accepts it like it's a perfect fairytale ending.
Don't get me wrong, I love both the manga and the anime but I think the anime ending being bittersweet is more fitting.

The fact that the Manga's ending wasn't a logical ending for the anime because the reason that have triggered the events of the Manga's ending were the fact that Hikaru wasn't aware that Kyousuke actually loves Madoka and the character Sayuri Hirose has tell her about them, on other hand in the anime Sayuri Hirose was completely absent and Hikaru long the story unlike the Manga's case has get many hints that Kyosuke always has prefered Madoka over her. Because of this I think that Movie 1 was a more sensed and logical epilogue for the anime than the Manga's ending.

Madoka and Kyousuke deserve each other but they are not horrible people. Their lack of courage in not letting Hikaru face the reality before was a mistake. Kyousuke's indecision was a problem, but drive Hikaru away could have been mean get Madoka dislike (the episode 15 is the greatest proof of that). Kyousuke main fault was accepting that kiss that really have deluding her too much, while Madoka fault was her attitude during the series.
She was a jerk with Kyousuke's sometimes, she was unable to try to start a true relantionship with Kyousuke because she don't wanted hurt Hikaru and renounce to her friendship with her. Madoka had even call herself a fool because she becoming aware that she could have been able to have Kyousuke before the movie and avoiding deluding Hikaru too much if she was able to be honest with both Hikaru and herself time ago.
Hikaru knew about their feelings but she continue to acting like she wasn't aware of the situation between them because she don't want renounce to none of they 2, but when she have to face reality she refuse to give and Madoka and Kyousuke was forced to drive her away even if both of they 2 really had hate did so.
In the 2nd movie Hikaru is not a movie star from what I remember she had yet to be able to take the definitive step that would have ensured her a successful career.
