Never assume that one rock slide is all that you are going to get. Rock slides happen in zones of geologic instability and one slide might remove the keystones that are holding another mass up on the slope. A little more rain and down she comes.
I go back and forth between Nashville and Franklin, NC. going south to Dalton and then to Ellijay is the better route. The way tha TN DOT want you to go is 2 hours out of the way, The road over Fort MTN is mush better the US 129. Motorcycle run that route and they some thing cross lines. They have at least 5 people have died there this year

Thank God they were able to get everyone out of the way! That slide would have easily pushed the jackhammer-crane into the Gorge.

Quicker way would be probably be to go to Ellijay 282 to Chatsworth then 411 back to 64
