    I love how Cillian is as good with his eyes. I actually mimicked the way he does eye contact in peaky blinders and it’s made a pretty big impact on my interactions.

      Oh damn, what did you start doing differently?

    • @Kyrious
      @Kyrious 3 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      First thing I did was learn to hold eye contact more, and when I broke it I only broke it to the side. The next thing I started doing was keeping my eyes open more, to take in more information, and blinking slowly.
      I naturally have a stoic, Thomas Shelby like presence, very non reactive. It was mostly my eyes, quiet voice, and body language that gave my lack of confidence.
      Beyond eye contact I started to keep my body language more open, I avoided touching my face, crossing my arms or fingers.
      With these changes my quiet voice, is still quite, a bit louder than before but not by much. The eye contact and body language makes a large difference in the presence I give off. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

    The writing on PB is phenomenal, but Cillian Murphy's acting just knocks it out of the park. He's one of the best actors around right now.
    Another good breakdown would be Michael Douglas at the end of The Game from his time on the rooftop to after his fall.

    He has to be one of the best actors alive. I rarely even think twice about an actor but Cillian has made that short list. Ed Norton, Ed Harris, and now Cillian Murphy are my top three. I seriously don’t even watch many movies or tv shows but Peaky Blinders caught my attention. I also think Cillian’s lifestyle is noteworthy as well. Bravo!

    How good it's Cillian's acting and how good it's Stephen Knight's scrip.That was all on the script. But I agree with you, this is one his best actings. I thought he was more sad and dissapointed because he has survived and had to go on with his struggle, once he has accepted his fate death, he felt freeded.
    Amazing drama in the whole although I liked more the 3 first seasons.

    I totally agree with you at the beginning when you said the scene "is not supposed to be your favourite", which actually demonstrated how incredible Cillian's acting was. I also watched this episode when all six seasons have came out. Cillian's acting was so convincing that even when we know that there are more seasons of the show, while watching this scene, I began to think of the possibilities where the show carried on without Thomas Shelby ..... Steven Knight's writing was also brilliant. As Cillian said in an interview "everything you thought could happen, something completely different happened, that's great writing." I feel that over and over again throughout watching Peaky Blinders.

    The other incredibly acted part about this scene is the setting. Tommy faced mud and dirt only one other time in his life; in France. Him tripping and falling face first after the shock of surviving is what causes the shouting, not stumbling (somewhat baby deer like?) out of 'his grave', further symbolizing rebirth. Love your video!!!

    That’s definitely my favorite scene from the entire series, even tho it lots of them i keep coming back to it. His acting gives me goosebumps,it’s so deep. This scene gives us much better understanding of Tommy and who he is,i love the way he showed his vulnerability. I also noticed the way he closed his eyes in this scene as some kind of “let go of control” act,which he never allowed himself to do, only when he was making love with Grace or when he hugged her,i guess she was the only safe place for him. And the closing is just wow,the way he’s making his way out plus the song’s lyrics!

    What an excellent commentary! Your description of the scene depicted all of the emotions I felt as Gillian Murphy presented Thomas Shelby so explicitly. He is such an excellent actor and portrays each of his emotions in such a calculated and expressive manner: in his eyes and his body language. He takes you into the scene itself and makes you feel as if you were actually there as well. His acting is exquisite. Thanks again for your excellent description of this scene!

  • @danklabunde

    what I gathered from the second part is that he was actually relieved to be dying, and that he got "so fucking close" to all of it being over as well. I think that was the main part of his overwhelm from the time he tripped. If so, that honestly makes Cillian's performance even better!

    • @theluigindarium
      @theluigindarium ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I somewhat agree. I think the first half is him actually facing loosing everything after he got so close to having it, but there is a momrnt after he comes to terms with it, with the fact that this is one situation he cannot maneuver his way out of, that he experiences a sort of peaceful freedom from the mental state of war he is always in and the metaphorical never-ending mud tunnel his life as a criminal has transformed into. And so, the despair he communicates when he trips feels really like a tired realization that the nightmare isn't over yet, and this time he actually OWES a favor to arguably the most powerful man in England at the time.

    Found myself here right after I finished the incredible Season 2 ending. I was on the edge of my seat and like you said, even though I knew he was gonna make it, I also thought he was not gonna make it unless he pulled a Houdini :)
    First of all, excellent breakdown, thank you for this.
    I think just as he made peace with his death, the fact that it did not happen was not a real relief for him partly because his life is a constant struggle, even though he is an ambitious man. It meant going back to his old ways and chaos. That's how I felt. And his falling in the dirt, staying there for a while, is a sign of more dirt he will get into as he goes on with his life. Dirty dirty business. He is soo deep in it, he can't undo what's done nor can he get out, ever. The only way was death.

    This was the first and last truly incredible twist on the show. After this, Churchill/Political ties/A random phone-call done off screen manages to solve almost all of Tommy's problems. Tommy's an alcoholic? He solved that off screen. Tommy's got rage issues? He solved that off-screen between Season 5-6. Tommy's suicidal and has a complex relationship with Birmingham's most popular whore? No it's okay, he married her and now she, too, is a bitter jaded aristocrat. Steven Knight struck absolute gold with this scene, this twist, that he spent the entire rest of the show trying to make Peaky Blinders feel like this scene- and the show ultimately fizzled out in my eyes as a result of it.

    Больше всего Томми был разочарован тем, что ему придется всегда работать на спецслужбы. Поэтому он и заорал f...k. Он понял, что из этой системы ему никогда не вырваться. И он никогда не будет свободен. А ведь свобода была его слабостью, как известно. Поэтому он и стремился к власти, полагая, что таким образом он обретет свободу. Но увы.
