Lets start off with I'm 43 and have health problems. Today, I decided I was feeling good and wanted to go to the store. This hasn't happened in the last few months. I got up, put on an outfit. Not just a tee shirt and jeans. I did my hair, and was smiling like crazy becausei even felt pretty today. My mom told me later that watching me today brought back so many memories of my life and the things I have overcome and accomplished, and she was honored God chose her to be my mother. She said today was her best day. Her favorite year is every year. To see me at an age I was never supposed to see and still smiling, walking, and loving. I got teary-eyed, and I just snuggled into her arms like I have since I was born. I'm only 4'9, so it's not hard. 😂 I will never feel the love you have for a child, but I can tell you that I love my mom more every day. So I guess it can go both ways. 😊❤

People pleasing often comes from feeling unsafe as a child and trying to control the emotions of unpredictable adults. The more you become your own safe adult and trust your decisions, the more that anxiety about other people's ideas fades. It's beautiful to see that change happen as you parent your own daughter as well. I agree that every stage is more fun than the next, excited to learn about your new project!

I never felt unsafe around adults as a child but I always focus on whether or not I am pleasing those around who are not in my circle of family who love me unconditionally. I think it has to do with perfectionism. I expect perfection out of myself and hate when I make a mistake...even though I know no one is perfect. If someone doesn't respond to me in the way I expect, I think I must have done something wrong and they're upset with me.

My therapist told me “what anyone else thinks of me is none of my business” and it was such a game changer for me! Glad you found your mantra, too 😊
My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma 7 years ago. She went through immunotherapy (keytruda) and it shrank the tumors and has kept them from growing. She'll never be "cancer free" but because of the treatment she lives a full life still. Her last scans showed no growth still. I pray your dad continues to get better and the treatment works for him.

What a lovely strong video. When I was younger (I’m now 53) I constantly tried to please my mother, yet, she was always disappointed with me. Those words resonated with me so much. I now have 3 children married 23 years and have always installed those values in my own children. Always to do things from a place of love & trust your gut feelings too!😉 Beautiful video.🥰

Yeah, same here!!! At 50 years old I finally realized my mom, sadly, is a narcissist and I will never please her. But my sons are always cherished!! Praise God!

I'll be 51 next week and I have alway been a huge disappointment to my mom. I have 3 daughters 25, 21 and 17 and I have been married for 30 years. My mom is still waiting for my marriage to end b/c she doesn't like him. She has chosen to have nothing to do with my daughters since they are 1/2 him.
I have spent my whole like trying to please her (and many others) I would have liked to have had my mom talk about loving me till her heart wants to pop, like Allie said.
Anyhow, videos like this are good for my soul.

My son is 5 months old and I feel the exact same way!!!! He said mama yesterday for the first time! ❤ I just feel like this was my purpose in life. Being a mom is the best thing in the world! So trust me when I say I’m so happy for you!

The older you get Allie, the more what people think of you mattering will fall away. Everyone cares what people think of them, but I can tell you once you get into your 40’s, it’s like year by year making others happy matters less. I’m 47, and I feel completely different on this issue than I did at 40. What matters becomes clearer, what makes you happy becomes clearer, and most importantly what doesn’t make you happy becomes super clear. Enjoy where you’re at now, it sounds like a wonderful time in your life. And know all sorts of clarity and inner peace is coming further down the road too. Life is a journey that’s for sure! Can I tell you something?
I have MS, Multiple Sclerosis. I was diagnosed in 2014 at 35 years old. All the expectations and dreams I had in my mind were shattered. I had to rewrite my own life and let go of some things. It's not easy. I have a 23 year old son, he's my favorite thing. Like, meaning period.
It's okay and healthy to have gratitude. But it's also important to be proud of yourself, specifically. Sometimes we get used to getting our pats on the back from others and we forget to be our own cheerleader.
I have a phrase that I remind myself of, like you shared yours with us. And I want you to remind yourself too.
Worry or anxiety is like pre-paying interest on a debt that may never come due.
It's helped me recalibrate many many times.
Thank you for being your sweet self and doing makeup with you from the other side of the screen has been soothing for myself and so many. I needed a little escape during my challenges and you did help. Take care, Allie. Byeeeeeeee...😊

Something that really struck me lately is the Serenity Prayer. "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference." I've heard it for years but it never meant something to me until now. I am a chronic people pleaser as well and this has changed the way I think. Also I don't stress as much now about certain things. Also, people don't need to be happy with me for me to be happy... YES! genius! I love you and this video♡ Proud of you❤
Allie, following you,feels like you’re a third daughter. Both my girls had babies six and ten months ago, and watching my babies have babies is nuts!! Growing should never stop, and inner growth isn’t linear. There will be emotional valleys and mountains, and I’m so glad you’ve found a beautiful pocket in your life right now.

I wish we had cell phones with cameras and the capability to take videos when my kids were babies. My daughter is now 24 and my son is 22. I had to have a laparoscopy surgery where they found I had endometriosis and scar tissue on the fallopian tubes. They cleaned it up and put me on fertility. They were worried that one tube may be too damaged. I was 31 years old when my daughter was born and 33 when my son was born. I truly understand how you feel when you speak of this perfect love you have for your baby, your child. I ended up being a single parent to them from the age of 4 and 2. They are my world and it brings me to tears looking back at how fast it went. I savored every stage of their lives and continue to do so. Thank you for sharing your experience and that of your father. God bless you and your little family.
Took 45 years for me to figure out what you just shared, in my own life. I've tried to share the same thoughts with my college age daughter who suffers from anxiety and trying to find her place in this world. You said it so eloquently that I shared this video with her. Becoming a mom is the most beautiful thing that exist. I have 2 girls are grownups now. And i am so so praud that i may be there mom. My oldest has a little girl herself who is the spitting image off her mom. Its so special the little girl that grew in my belly has a little girl herself. I cant bring in to words how much i love them ❤❤
Oh my gosh! I needed to hear the phrase: "I don't need people to be happy with me, for me to be happy." I was struggling with this once again today. I have prayed so much about how I can change and my expectations which are always so high and I am always worried about what people think about me.
I deffinitly agree with expectations. Sometimes with high expectations that I have don’t work out or are not great but when I have low expectations that is when I have the best times/ experiences.
You very lightly mentioned this expectation thing in a makeup post awhile back. When I’m in mom mode, I’m in mom mode, work, wife, chill, etc. that resonated with me at the time too. Being present has only been a struggle for me & for personal reasons this past year I’ve rly had a breakthrough with it. 💕
Listening about your father’s journey made me think Gods timing is perfect. You and your sisters all got pregnant around the same time. It provided your father with beautiful loving babies to fight for the time to spend with them. It gave him a tangible focus for his spirit. Love you Allie! "Choose Happiness". When I was a young mom, I read these two words someplace and it hit me just like these epiphanies have hit you. It is ok to choose happiness. It takes less energy than any other emotion. This carried me through raising my two boys in ways that were so helpful. We really tried to instill in them that even if things in their life felt difficult, they were always in control of their own happiness. Kids and adults have a way of saying things like "he made me so mad" or "she hurt my feelings". We try to remember that people don't make us feel a certain way, we allow ourselves to feel a way that is or is not beneficial to our well being. Sometimes it is beneficial to let sad feelings come or to be really angry at a situation. You are in control of your happiness. Choose it 💖
Every stage IS the best, I have 22 and 24 and am an empty nester and STILL love this stage!

I'm turning 40 in a few months & just found out I'm pregnant again (I didn't have my first till 35, but still thought we were done a couple of years ago). I've been struggling to smile, truly smile, not just shock smiling, the past 24 hours & you just made me smile inwardly & outwardly about starting over again ❤
Awe..congrats what a blessing ...I have to tell you, I'm the oldest of my siblings and back when I was 16, my mom at 40 found out she was pregnant again. At the time it was just me and my sister who was 7. So we were spread apart, each born in different decades 78-87-95 lol!
I remember my parents thought they were done too. But of course we can't imagine life without our baby sis who is also my literal twin. It's crazy, only difference is I have curly hair and hers is super straight.
There was a small conspiracy when I was dating my husband in my early 20's because I would take my sisters everywhere with me and her looking so much like me, he would ask jokingly if she was really my daughter lol.

Allie. This video is everything. I am super intuitive and a chronic people pleaser. I’m so proud that you’ve come to the realization that you don’t need other people to like you or be happy with you in order for you to be happy.
For me, I was with my last employer for almost 10 years and my confidence took a huge nose dive. Once I got away from it and in an environment that helped me regain my confidence, and has allowed me to work on my self-confidence / self-esteem which includes letting go of expectations.

My motto is " never change yourself or who you are to make others comfortable". They can't deal with it, that's too bad for them. Not my problem. It took me awhile to get there but at 53 I wished I had started waaaaaaay earlier. I'm so excited to see what you've been up to!
I’m one year postpartum and just started working out again. I loved being in the gym prior to having my son, but being with him for the first year of his life has been my priority. It’s been the absolute best and hardest year being a first time mom.

I don’t know if there’s a shift in the universe or on the planet, but I recently had a very similar Epiphany about expectations and I, too, I’m a people pleaser, and decided that it’s unrealistic to think you can please everyone without tearing off pieces of your self. Also, expecting other people to care the way you care or to value things the way you value them is setting yourself up for disappointment a lot of times. I had to go through about a year of therapy to figure this all out and I’m quite a bit older than you, but it’s such an important way to look at things. You can be happy regardless of whether or not other people are happy with you. Thank you for this really honest and sweet video. I’m so happy your dreams are coming true and this is a great channel. Where there’s no drama and just people supporting other people. It’s so refreshing.

I think becoming a mother brings on a lot of epiphanies. I know I had a bunch after having my babies. And this realization that you don't have to wait to be happy after everyone else is happy is the first step toward mama bear-ness. LOL! You get more "guts" after giving birth and it's a good feeling. It's part of protecting yourself and that precious babe :)

I'm 48 and it took me a long time to realize, it is ok to give ourselves grace, patience and understanding. To not let other define my success, self worth and happiness. When you can let yourself be aware it makes such clarity in so much more.

The day I realized that there were people in the world who didn’t like me, I was devastated. Also being a people pleaser, I couldn’t fathom this. As I gradually got used to the idea and realized that it didn’t matter, I became more comfortable in my own skin. I think that happiness is mostly a choice and people decide how happy to be regardless of the situation. You look and sound happy and grounded. What a good thing that is!❤

Most people don’t gain the type of wisdom you share in this video until they’re in their 40’s and 50’s. If only I had those same epiphanies back when I was a young Mom. I firmly believe in energy - what you put out in the world comes back to you. I think you’re the perfect example of that. My dad has a non cancerous tumor in his brain when I was 16. I am 44 now. God brought him thru. So glad your dad is ok. Praise be to God. Also, THANK YOU so much for this video and sharing about staying in the moment. Just letting go and letting God do it. We are only human.

This past couple of years have been very hard my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. Some days are hard but I'm trying to appreciate the good days and really enjoy them and be present.
Allie, you were my very first TH-cam video ever. The very first face I saw many years ago, and I was hooked! I couldn’t believe there were other people, like myself, who love makeup/skincare as much as I do! I’ve watched you since way before you launched your bags, or were pregnant/had a baby. And God knows I have bought so much makeup upon your recommendations! (I’d make any Beauty Influencer proud! 😂😂😂😂😂). It’s been so fun watching you through your journey. I know you don’t open up about yourself often, but I almost feel like you should (within reason) or at the very least do a “catch up” video every few months (like this one) because it helps your audience to connect with you a bit more AND you have important things to say! Makeup aside, you are positively a gem, a light & a beautiful gift in this world. ❤❤

My Sister is going through a cancer Dx. Unfortunately after her work up at MD Anderson there are no therapies available for her type of cancer. So hard to believe she’ll be gone in a couple months. So so happy your Dad found the correct immunotherapy drugs. They are more targeted than Chem and really amazing. So happy for you and your family. Congratulations on being a Mom. ❤

Congratulations 🎉🎈🎊. A baby definitely changes your life for the better. I had three babies. There’s a saying about motherhood “that the days are long but the years are short” which is so true!!
