I’m so glad that LIVE NATION is getting sued.
I understand your concern. It is indeed unfair that a $100 ticket can be resold for $500. I am curious to know how all the tickets are classified as resold tickets as soon as they go on sale.
@@ChocoBeauty8 Scalpers are organized. They use bots to quickly grab every ticket the artist and promoter haven't reserved.
Hoov knows something
I wrote an entire whitepaper about this for the DOJ. Ticketmaster needs to stop hiding behind Live Nation if we are ever going to reform the music industry.
I don't think Ticket Master is hiding behind Live Nation. I think Live Nation took control of Ticket Master(hands were tied).......I went to a Comedy Show here in New Orleans @Smoothie King now they have their own Ticket Box Office so what Live Nation did was ----People had to call Ticket Master 800 # to buy tickets and be charge way more. You couldn't get it from the Ticket Box Office of that venue.... Remember when you get tickets from that venue you don't pay all those taxes etc. You get it for that price.See what I'm saying, Live Nation took control.......Forcing the consumer to pay all those excess taxes etc. and the venue is neutral cause they don't have a say so especially if they don't have any tickets to sell......... It's all Live Nation's doing nothing to do with Ticket Master.......
@@linnettejoseph7027 so you have no idea how they are connected? I just said I wrote an entire whitepaper about it and you said ‘I think’. Everything you said is in my whitepaper explaining the monopoly you just described.
Prince spoke out about this years ago. Michael Jackson spoke on this predatory behavior from these people. This is nothing new under the sun. What’s new is that the revolution against the “music industry” has begun and is gaining STEAM… quickly
always said that the ones who make the most money in the music industry are the ones who don't play the music
Love or hate him, Ray Daniels said it best, “Artists, you are the product”. Why give your golden goose “more than it needs” if you still gonna get rich from their eggs.
We need to start creating and labeling equitably made music as “ethical” and “cruelty-free” the same way we do with other consumables like food and clothes.
Otherwise it’s all just fast food or fast fashion for our ears.
I like this
When curtis king said ive always said about black label owners like birdman, diddy, jay z etc or when people say black label owners doing there artist dirty. They learned those dirty tactics from the label. Same apply to artist and song writer as well.
Facts: They are simply following the blueprint for making the most money by making their artists' modern-day share-croppers.
Jon Bellion has been around for years, his discography is crazy if yah haven’t tapped in
One of my fav artist
On Saturday, I attended a concert at an amphitheatre in North Atlanta. I was chatting with one of the merch vendors (J), and I learned that LiveNation actually runs the whole venue (the city still owns it).
J said LIveNation has been trying to put the squeeze on staff at the bottom. All of the human beings I interacted with in merch & concessions are supposedly working for tips.
My ticket was 110. I parked behind a school for 30. The water was Liquid D for 12. Other drinks started at 14. Let's just say I wasn't exactly in a tipping mood. 😕
J didn't know anything about the antitrust lawsuit. He said it was the first good thing he'd heard from the government in years.
Insane!
Sounds like you're basically paying them minimum wage with some of these prices
That song in the middle goes HARD🔥🔥🔥 I see you Curtiss
This guy is dropping great info
8:19 in context tho why are our legal teams allowing us to sign these contracts without a full explanation of the terms and negotiating a better situation for us? Why is he reading this contract after the fact and figuring out how it works
Because most up and coming artists are blinded by that first look
Same reason why a lawyer repping an innocent black man would tell them to just plead guilty, do the time, and keep it pushing.
However they rationalize it, it’s complacency, if not, outright cooperation with the system, it’s “standards” and the status quo.
Also… if you _do_ have a legal team, make sure they're actually "your" team. Often they are cozy and friendly with the corporation, if not directly employed by it.
Because most of these artists want to make it out of poverty. The same reason Da Band walked to Brooklyn for cheesecake.
@@officialchoccypop he said he used a neighborhood lawyer …
yeah jungkook, or bts (his group), is very much blacklisted from US radio despite pulling millions of streams in america due to their immense popularity. the billboard charts only reflect which american artists the industry is pushing through major label connections, which is why radio accounts for so much of charting success despite it being a dying industry.
I see that Jungkook's song ("Seven" featuring Latto) debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, despite the cold shoulder from radio.
I know BTS had a deal with Sony Music USA, but this solo project doesn't appear to have an American label involved. So who is Bellion accusing of killing the record? 🤔
Wrong they're not blacklisted. Bts is not huge and is not listened to by millions in the USA. I dont know of 1 person who listens to or even knows who the group BTS is. That's the reality. It has nothing to do with being blacklisted.
@@theDRIPg0d nice troll bait, dawg. 🥱
They'll have more influence over americans, than the american ppl. 🤷🏿♂🤷🏿♂🤷🏿♂🤷🏿♂
Wow. This valuable information and resource, thank you, Sir .salute .
I want to thank this channel for providing this information and doing so much to help individual human beings with human needs and human dreams, protect ourselves from legal fictions that don’t eat don’t breathe. Don’t have children can’t get married and can’t go to jail.
thank you for always breaking down the info we need
It’s not just LN, that’s the music industry from it’s inception. They are just following the original slave model. Go all the way back the early artists, this why they died destitute… Poverty is the price of fame.
Government wants its cut, the artist / consumers won’t see a penny of that money. I find it funny a government entity is suing Live Nation when they doing the exact same thing.
Was just talking about payola… it’s still a thing y’all…🤷🏾♂️
everything is and will always be pay for play. the smart ones know this though.
Live Nation getting sued is great news!
he really never holds back... talk up and let the truth rain
Thanks for breaking this down. Love your stuff and love how you look out for the little guy.
More artist should transition to writing and self publishing books. It’s the equivalent of making an album (physical copy) and digital (ebook).
It’s the same concept because you are using your words to express yourself but you control the narrative and finances. You also own all royalties. You write the book one year and can sell it for the rest of your life (royalties/equity). You can do speeches about the content in the book (equivalent to live performances).
This has been a thing in music from the beginning. Artist have to educate themselves and as a professional and know what’s good for them. If the deal doesn’t sound good then it’s not.
Love Your Work Curtis!!! Amazing Video keep at it!!
Shoutout Jon, still go back for inspo
the more WE stop the money the more change will come. THEY keep playing its gonna explode in THEIR face 💯💯💯
I once wanted to be a writer. And as a teen looking into the publishing business to understand just how literary agencies, publishing houses, and editors all fit into the grand scheme, I learned that writers were making peanuts. Only uber successful writers could become millionaires. And exactly how advances worked. Somewhere around that time, the group TLC came out about being broke despite all of their "success". That's when it really came together that talent fuels the wealth of corporations. Heck, this is true of pretty much every business unless the owner/creator is also the chief inventor. Even when that happens, typically the employee does all of the ground work to push the product (marketing), manufacturing, and distributing.
As a curious person, I often check to see what the net worth of some celebrities are. Mainly to understand where their profit/income comes from. It's also why I shout from the rooftops how smart Chance the Rapper. The game is definitely stacked against the average person, with or without talent. Just like the job market. That's why, you must try to find a way to market your own skill. Outsource yourself independently. Your job essentially uses the service your provide by guaranteeing you a check. You in turn fulfill whatever quota they set. If you were to do the same for yourself, all you would have to do is find the end user or client and your pay would not have those limits. People do it. The difference is the guaranteed limited check versus the unknown, unguaranteed, but unlimited independent check. Think about it.
I've been hearing about this for some time now.
Loudwire made video couple years ago all about this. Name of video - Musicians warning fans about the music industry
2020 is when Live Nation changed their rules, TH-camr Damion Keyes exposed it, i tried to get people to sign the petition then because it's horrific!! Their rules made it so artists had to pay the insurance for the venues BEFORE their performances which can literally be whatever the venue claims!!!!!
This makes me wonder how this news is impacting LaRussell or if it even effects him at all
I really like your videos an vibe Curtiss
This stuff has been going on since the first person signed their name to a record contract nothing new here the only difference is they've been allowed to get as big as they are......
This is “rage against the machine”
How much longer are we going to keep boo hooing over artist signing these contracts that have stood the test of time for centuries with slight amendments to further rob you. these are self inflicted wounds artist have created by acceptIng terms they KNOW are bad as being "ok" I do tons of panels about these agreements etc. Millions of artist and a few labels and creatives haven't shifted the game yet. "Power in numbers when the number aint adding up." - Tee-Double
*Q:* How much longer?
_“There's a sucker born every minute.”_
*A:* Forever.
Of all the excerpts to choose from for his examples of talent though? Lol but yeah john is fireee and his personality is just as inspiring as his work
I got Ticket Leap so I can completely cut out the middle man. I be damned if I let some big corporate entity take my funds like that.
Have you ever encountered a bigger venue that gave you friction?
So basically it is like what Jay Z said, make em pay for what they did to The Cold Crush"
Does it ever make you wonder if those making those kinds of decisions...ever even played an instrument or sang? or rapped, etc.
aye first ones here gang
They don’t give us chance
Makes me not want to do it no more tbh
*Jon Bellion is pissed.*
*_Royally_** pissed.*
This the reason you gotta be independent otherwise you will just be making some corporation money. But also good luck funding your own career. It’s a hustle gang.
DAMN
Sounds like this man was used as property to profit off of
He was
Come and let me talk my shit preview? FIRE...appreciate your videos! They're informative and create a healthy debate on where we should take the industry. We can really take over if enough of us work together towards the same goal, real independence.
we create the art, we own it unless we sign the rights away, be aware.
But Tori Kelly signed with Epic tho.....
She's signed to both. Tori's first four albums were released through Capitol Records _and_ Schoolboy Records (Scooter Braun). Her fifth album was released through Epic Records, Beautiful Mind Records (Jon Bellion), and Tori Kelly Publishing (according to Wikipedia).
I don't know exactly how the deals are structured, so I can't say whether Bellion is actually doing her a favor…
2024 year of the Reckoning…Katt Williams 37:27
I taught Live Nation were suppose to be for the Artist? LOL
Yeah because the hotdog guy, venue, and city don’t have a shit ton of hardworking people to pay
How many people do you believe came to that show and paid for $90 tickets to come see the hotdog vendor?
@@CurtissKingTV Maybe the Artist should see more money, but not from things like the hot dog vendor, they may not be the main attraction but they are part of what makes the venue a desirable destination. The artist isn’t back there working his ass off making hot dogs during the show, they deserve a cut too, and believe me, they get it. Should we tax the little guys out front making bacon wrapped hot dogs too?
The artists show takes way more work and resources than the artists themselves provide and this shouldn’t be taken for granted.
That being said, it’s known the industry rips off their artists, doing things like making them pay for catering out of their pocket is bullshit
@@ian3857 how about artist go independent? Because an artist will need the following money first studio time, distributor, promotion and PR to get the music in venues to be heard… radio, Spotify etc. then if they tour they have to pay to get there travel expenses plane, bus, car. The artist will have to pay for their living arrangements during touring hotel etc. wardrobe clothes for performance , make up, hair. Food for the artist. I know someone who plays for a band and sometimes their pay check is less than because they have to pay for the tour hotel, wardrobe, food and travel. To save money on the road three band members split the hotel and food so they will have take home pay when the tour is over. Someone has to pay the expenses either the artist or the label. The label is a business and are looking for profit.
@@madamenoire6830 The show is the product, the artist is the customer. Sadly Hollywood runs on money and the artists ain’t Hollywood go figure
Sup
This aint new news. Live Nation have venues worldwide, this lawsuit aint gonna stick, the only reason the DOF got involve is someone behind the scenes of a rival knows somebody that knows somebody. I appreciate the knowledge you to share but we walk into a major supermarket and tell them how to work out their markups??? Isn't youtube working on similar metrics? Investors invest to make money. Nobody is gonna change a working formula... in this case they need to change many laws to suit the low tiers
😋👢
👦🏽 _A whole 100 dollars for _*_all of my songs?_*
_Where do I sign, Mr. Berry Gordy?_
Nobody told these folks to sell the soul to the industry. I’m so sick of folks who choose to sign contracts complaining about the contracts. They want to live lavishly. They already doing well. Why complain and put blame on the ones you didn’t have to make an agreement with. Amazon not paying for my gas to work. They not paying for my lunch. Why is it that musicians think they should live for free? I just don’t get it.
Nobody said they wanted to live for free I don’t know where you got that from. And if you were paying attention to the video the man said he was 18 to 19 years old at the time of course now he’s knows not to sign a contract like that but he just wanted to make money from his music this ain’t got nothing to do with selling your soul please stop with that.
@@Sketchnificent age isn’t an excuse for ignorance and if YOU were paying attention, the girl on stage before skepta said the label should be paying for her food and such.
@@ceelothatmane9421 Amazon is your employer. They pay you wages on a schedule. The relationship between a record label and a songwriter is clearly different. Your analogy is daft.
@@crnkmnky how? You signed a contract. You either adhere to it or you don’t. Just like I sign a contract with my employer. The label is their employer.
That’s like me running a remodeling business and suggesting that the person who pays me to remodel their house should also include lunch, toiletries and housing etc for the duration of the project.
But really what do you think? Are you an artist or a hot dog seller? They have their structure to maximize profits that’s obviously, there are also costs involved in maintenance of venues in general. It’s a childish video.
He’s the reason people flock to the venue to buy the hotdogs. No artist=empty venue.
Did you catch the part where he said they reserve the right to sell you $90 ticket for $10 dollars? How is that fair?
@@DaveJLamar do you think the venue was created for free ? Please have a minimum of a business mindset, people are getting crazy trying to get money from anything, this case is lost. I’m sure all those venues are running at a loss, nobody thinks about the costs involved.
@@viraltopviral You're sure?
@@crnkmnky most venues run at a loss, stadiums for example they don’t hold events every day, the taxes and other costs involved are astronomic, to simplify running a single hot dog stand also has huge costs, the workers salaries, plus the Logistics. You just see a $20 hot dog but you don’t see the hell behind.
@@viraltopviral I'm sure there is plenty happening behind the scenes, which I wouldn't understand. That said, I was at one of their venues two days ago. I definitely saw overpriced drinks. I also saw several staff who allegedly were working for tips. Last year, the parent company's net income was $734M… whatever that means.
The very messed up scammy part is that the Label takes their cut which is mostly more than yours and on top of that they take their advance from YOUR cut! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 talk about finesse! And a 360 gives them the ability to inflate “expenses”. Their only power is that there’s a million of you waiting to sign this deal if you don’t want it. Oh I forgot! They force you to only work with companies they assign and guess who owns those companies on the back end. Its actually genius 😭😭😭🫣
