    We need to go back to cds. As a consumer, I don't like having to "license" music because I can no longer "own it". And it can be removed without my knowledge even with me already paying for it. This is why I refuse to buy digital copies anymore.
    I'll stream it on TH-cam or buy the physical copy if I can find it. Let's start back up physical albums .

    • @waynebo248
      @waynebo248 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You can still purchase downloads. Artists get their share of that. Especially if you buy from their website or Bandcamp. Releasing physical product is very expensive for indie artists. It doesn't make sense financially if you don't have a large audience.

    • @Blaquemajeek
      @Blaquemajeek 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@waynebo248 I see your point. But im still in favor of physical over digital. Digital is to easy to manipulate or dupe the consumer and artist. Maybe the indi artist can look into offering a few physical copies ( especially when doing in person promotion). One of my team mates did that with her album. Our manager told me that they barely make money from streams.

    • @Eliburgo
      @Eliburgo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @waynebo248 you can press 200 vinyl for $2000 dollars that's $10 a piece sell that record for $20 to $30 dollars 30 x 200 is $6000 even with a small fan base you can make good money on physical media save 10 copies and sell along the resellers later and make even more.

    • @waynebo248
      @waynebo248 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Eliburgo Right. That's $2000 upfront. Many of us don't have that. And if you do, you don't spend that if you haven't already built enough of a fan base - one that wants to buy vinyl - to be confident that you can sell them. I know artists are doing it, but everybody isn't there yet.

Check it out, they are easy to spot because they have no bio or artist info with a super generic picture (like a tomato or some 💩) yet they have like 800k monthly listeners while I bust my butt to have 25k listeners

    I am so glad you found this video Curtiss. I saw this not long ago and totally thought of you. I was hoping you would react to this because I think this is what us DIY artist are really competing against. I think we can compete but not online, only in the real world. The Internet is part of the artificial landscape that AI exists in. Of course they are going to win that. The power is in live performance. But that means really singing, without auto tune. Really rapping all those lyrics which means you have to practice. Really playing an instrument even. I know I sound crazy these days saying that but if you can play an instrument and sing well you can draw an audience.

    AI is trained on main stream music. So, when it gives you a killer track, be careful. It is basically sampling music, and throwing stuff together. I like to use it as a tool to flesh out lyrics and to try out different melodies before I play my instruments and produce anything. But if you use the AI songs as they are, you may eventually get sued for using mainstream artists tracks in part.

    Hey! Great video. Great thoughts and arguments. And thanks for the load you’re pulling for us small artists struggling to hit 1k streams.
    What makes me pissed is that I have to pay for everything. I’m of course paying for instruments and I like to do that. Same with software.
    Then I have to pay for someone to make cool cover art for my release. Then I either need to pay to upload it to Spotify. And you have to pay to listen to my song on Spotify. I could, instead, pay to upload it to another platform which will pitch it to labels. So I have to pay for someone to listen to it. When it’s on Spotify people are reaching out to me to say that I have to pay to be added to their playlist. And the. I have to pay to be able to withdraw my earnings.
    Why is the musician and creator always the one doing all the hard work? Why are there so many parasites trying to benefit off our creations? Makes me sad. They can all go eff themselves.

    The music industry has been nothing but shady throughout its existence. While AI has its benefits for artists, I saw that it also has a weaponizing aspect to it. Looking back at Apples way of actually selling music, it was the closest we'll get to a mom and pop model of having some control (work effort paying off somewhat). Never really felt this streaming BS, but AI is the wrap that'll make artist Street corner paulpers.

    Deflating the value of music and artists for fun and profit. The modern artist needs to be vertically integrated with all of the skills to create, mix, promote, and distribute your music. That is a way to stay relevant.
    The real power is in the listener if only they take charge and demand visibility and accountability. People tend to not respond until they come for them.
    Step one is to stop placing your tracks there and stop using the service for streaming. Start acting in your own best personal interests.

    It’s hard because I like Spotify for exposing me to so much music and when I stop paying for the subscription , my playlists are still there but Apple Music doesn’t do that & I feel like Apple Music sneaks mainstream into my stations when they don’t even match the vibe. I’m conflicted 😭

    word!!! this pisses me off so much, that I was even thinking: "Where are the hacker groups when we need em? just give those narcistic non-human beings a lesson!" maybe then they realize how wrong their path is....I'm sure this Elk is listening to ABBA at home ;))) and give us artists back the respect and fair income to create more real human art. what is left of us, when it's all gone?!

    Spotify doesnt need to bot, because no oversight exists for these industries. They can just type in a number in a database and magically that is how many times the artist was played. They can do anything they want because it is their own system.

    I think one of the main problem is that people truly don’t understand how easy it is to make ai, you literally just need decent math, decent program skill and just a good book on how these ai things work. That easily you can use it to assist you in task. Everyone will be “talented” soon. Just like how everyone on social media are Einstein on every topic, because of social media. Soon ai work will be accepted.

    Bring back the music store or create an artist run, streaming platform that's affordable for customers
