    Private equity sounds like a mechanism that extracts the most amount of value from a business, and transfers that wealth to the few general partners.
    Everyone loses - the business, the employees, the local consumers, the tax payers.... except for the general partners

      The people you’re claiming don’t benefit wouldn’t have benefited with or without the private equity buyout. The business was failing before private equity came in, they just more efficiently manage the end of the companies life. Most likely allowing most companies to work there longer than they would have been able to do before.

      Pretty sure you can leverage that into getting a PE role provided you can show decent transaction experience and network hard enough. If you have more than 3 years of experience, it would be better to do an MBA, as the work ex requirement is right around the corner.

    I am actually planning to do my masters next year from HEC paris which is one of the best schools in the world
    Then onwards I was thinking of joining investment banking and then joining private equity.

      not entirely sure what the landscape of PE is like in europe but if it's anything like the US, then without banking experience it'll hard to join a PE shop post a masters unless it's a small boutique. would defer more to your classmates and see if anyone has been able to recruit for PE with a similar background / situation as yours

      i've heard that Rothschild is top as well BNP Paribas.
      not sure about PE exits though. and they might as well prefer native French for PE who know the culture well.
      i looked in teams of EU PE firms think (CVC, Advent, EQT, hg, Permira), etc and they were locals and no internationals so pls do due diligence of the landscape before landing in france.

    Hi! So I've got 3 years left in my university (Bachelor's in business management) and I've just wrapped up an internship at a management consulting firm doing private M&A.
    I've only ever had case competitions for PE, nothing professional.
    Do you recommend I start trying for PE for my second internship (I've only got 4 internships left to spend on before graduation) or try to build my way there using IBD internships first?
    Also, what season would you say is best for applying to PE in terms of competition - after summer (August-Dec) or before summer (Jan-May)? Thanks!

    • @rareliquid
      @rareliquid  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      no not really because PE involves a very specific type of modeling (LBOs) that aren't applicable to investments in equities if that's what you're referring to. financial modeling (DCFs and comps) would be more applicable
