I've found myself in a learning slump of late, until I stumbled upon this. Of all the instructors trying to teach 'how to paint loose', you've given me a much much better place to start with confidence. Now, excuse me while I look through some old photos of Acacia trees and get to painting.
I loved this painting and learned a lot from watching this. I'm trying to learn proper layering at the moment and tend to start too dark when I do so I have nowhere to go. I love this technique and see no need to layer at all. I look forward to trying this soon. Thank you for a great video.
Wonderful. The richness, the granulation. Just mix paint on the paper and use the brush handle for gestural marks. So much to take away here. Thank you. Greetings from Melbourne Australia.
Great, I have recently been painting trees like this, as a beginner -ish, it’s great practice and often get good results with limited skills. Satisfying.
I attended a workshop of a famous Florida watercolor artist. She said she only works on full sheets of 300lb Arches paper, and uses watercolor paint the consistency of *toothpaste.* Glad she commands a lot of money for her paintings because they must cost a small fortune to produce.
Wow! What a beautiful painting! Beautiful tree! I LOVE your style! This is the first time I've come across you, and now I must watch all of your videos. Thank you for your fresh inspiration!
I was grateful you reminded me of using a stick to draw. I keep one close by. I’m more comfortable using a stick than the brush end. I’m afraid of dripping paint or water. Your sketch is beautiful. And inspiring.
Why have I NEVER thought to use the back of the brush to drag color out?? I'm struggling over here with a liner brush and a light touch, but the back of the brush looked almost effortless! Can't wait to try this technique.

Now that's how I want to paint - simple, quick, loose & lush - with fab results! Stunning work sir. Thank you!

Welcome!
Stunning! Love the granulation. I like splattering with water to make interesting textures. Agree Shirley T is brilliant.

wonderful
I loved this! I use the brush handle a lot too!😊
Can I ask what paint and paper you used here? It lifted so cleanly with the palette knife!!
👍😀🌺
N8cely done. Bravo! Question, please: why did you choose to not bring in a light wash background over the paper's white?
Excellent. Do you stretch your watercolour paper first?
I would love to know the name of the artist you mentioned in the video.
Shirley Travena.
what is your paper in this demo?
What kind of paper did you used?
This was Arches. 140lb. NOT surface 👍
Great fun, but you did overwork it just a tad.
Very Nice the mix of cold and warm, wow I gonna try to do the mixes on the paper, thank you for sharing this.
Cheers!
