    One thing that I love about this: these guys have been consistent in their mindset since the very beginning. I remember being in a Maryland basement when they were practicing for an early Baltimore show, and talking to Misha and Alex (long gone) about intentions, process, aspirations. And to this day everything said in that conversation is still true.

    P5 is an absolute masterpiece! I do wish I could hear the stuff that got canned though!

    Really enjoyed this episode. The Periphery boys are a treat to listen to as they're so willing to admit their faults, talk about process, and have really insightful conversations.

    Juggernaut is IMO a masterpiece and probably my favorite Periphery record. I noticed all the nods to it in the P5 songs, so that makes total sense it was originally to be a sequel record to Jugg. As a fan, I’m glad they decided to go a different direction for the sake of the group. It makes even more sense to me now how P5 seems like a relieving record, there’s a lot of darkness but so many of the moments feel like relief from the darkness, kind of like it felt coming out of covid and returning to normal. Spencer is a cherished member of the group and I can’t imagine another singer, I’m the market for a Juggernaut 2 but I’m glad to get an album of Spencer opening up personally.

    Super insightful talk! Periphery are my favourite band ever so I always love when their brains get picked! The Lick Luben part was especially interesting to me!

    This is fantastic, especially with the later half about collaborative efforts as a group, saying yes / no and putting your ego aside.
    In the last band i was a part of, we had 6 people and there most definitely were egos at play, mine included, and it lead to issues with wrting and performing.

      @@thefriedpiper something definitely soured. If I had to guess, Eyal felt like he was doing too much heavy lifting to feel satisfied with his share of the revenue and/or creative control. I think that's a reasonable explanation for why John has decided to start yet another school, and also have all of his presence removed from the Riff Hard archives.

    • @thefriedpiper
      @thefriedpiper 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@spoonerluv maybe. Something I read, speculation of course, was that John is very rhythmically driven on guitar and Eyal wanted to focus more on other aspects including more focus on lead playing. I'm really not sure where I stand on this. There's a lot of times where I've found Eyal to be dickish and much less personable than John and maybe that's something more prominent off mic. Idk. I doubt we'll ever get the real answer other than typical pr "creative differences".

    At the end of day The Price is Wrong will always be a better song than Dystopia

    Sounds like Spencer tanked that other material, maybe because he was pando-affected. Perhaps if he's in a better space, they can use that music on the next album.

    P1 had some cool shit. But wasnt a fan until P2. They totally lost me on Juggernaut. P3 rules...P4 rules. P5 is meh. Couple solid jams.
