As they freely acknowledged at the time of release, the bassline is drawn from Kraftwerk's Europe Endless and the melody is an homage to Booker T & The MGs Time Is Tight. A thing of beauty.
By far, one of New Order's most serene and beautiful songs which was inspired by Europe Endless by Kraftwerk. It remains in my top 3 of New Order's songs.
The working title was KW1, which answers your Kraftwerk question! The earliest US cassette copies even used the working titles of this and another track, although they printed it as "Kwi"
One of their finest. Funny JP when you said it sounded familiar I thought the same but in a different direction completely. When in Rome - The Promise kinda ripped off this song now that I listen to it again. But I’ll let it slide since it’s in one of my favorite movies - Napoleon Dynamite.
Aw, yeah. One of my favs from New Order. I know you're running through this album, but sometime in the future you gotta hit 'Love Vigilantes' from their album Low-Life!
Awesome thanks JP, definitely Kraftwerk influences but then they have influenced so many artists.....New Order create the most soulful and moving pieces without the need for complexity....
This was always a favorite of mine from this album. I've always thought this was a natural preview of their later song, Thieves Like Us. The song has a hypnotic elegance to it. And of course, has a good beat and you can dance to it! And as for the Kraftwerk reference, so many of the electronic bands at the time influenced each other. It was a really fun time for music!
Not only were they influenced by Kraftwerk, Ian Curtis was the person who turned them on to Kraftwerk. He was a huge influence on the eventual direction of New Order. You can certainly hear the beginnings of the Kraftwerk influence on the last things Joy Division did, later singles and the Closer album.
My favorite NO song since the first listen in 1983. It's something everyone should know that Kraftwerk is the shadow behind hundreds, thousands of electronic songs. New order is one of those Kraftwerk heir bands, but with the (only?) exception of the "Uranium" sample on "Blue Monday/The Beach", I don't think they were ever very obvious with that influence. And now, we can pause for a moment and acknowledge that Stephen Morris never misses a beat? And Hooky's bass is off the charts! Of course, this was years before he became a dick and backstabbed his band mates.
New Order's "In A Lonely Place" is worth a listen, its a hauntingly dark but atmospheric masterpiece, one of the last pieces recorded shortly before the premature death of lead singer Ian Curtis. I find it cathartic, but I'd be interested in your take on it .... ?
"Your Silent Face" comes very close musically to Kraftwerk's "Europe Endless", which is perhaps why it's one of the few tracks on Power, Corruption & Lies that I enjoy.
It's "kraftwerkisch" as we say in Germany (or is it "kraftwerkesk"?). And yes, anybody who is familiar with Kraftwerk immediately hears the resemblance as soon as the song starts.
I could have whacked a minute off this tune. It was ok. My foot was tapping for most of it. I am partial to human drummers playing actual drums. Kraftwerk would be an exception because they were cutting edge. Imagine if after Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon every song there after had clocks in it. The joy of music would be gone. It is how I think of electronic rhythm. (I make some exceptions with some devices in live performances)
Has to be said New Order or The Joy Division make by far the best abbatoir music, and with any luck this could be almost be as good as anything you would hear in an elevator

Ah ! That explains the familiarity !
......" ENDLESS ENDLESS "
Comes close to perfection for me.
Welcome back, Ariadne 😊
Your Silent Face & Space Age Love Song always take me to my happy place
This lp is in my opinion one of the best ever from any genre. 😊
It's glorious. The best compliment I can pay NO is that I can never decide which is my favourite album (up to and including Technique).
Epic tune. They were big Kraftwerk fans. Obviously. who isn't? Dead people.
By far, one of New Order's most serene and beautiful songs which was inspired by Europe Endless by Kraftwerk. It remains in my top 3 of New Order's songs.
I believe that "Kraftwerkian" is a perfectly acceptable word.
One of my all time favorite lyrics, the last line of the song “so why don’t you piss off?”
The music make my very sad…with beauty memories ….
This track, Gang of Four's early work, and XTC's ‘Summer's Cauldron’ were the melodica's chance to shine in independent popular music.
The working title was KW1, which answers your Kraftwerk question! The earliest US cassette copies even used the working titles of this and another track, although they printed it as "Kwi"
Majestic track from a majestic album
One of their finest.

Was is and will always be my favorite new order song

The full Lowlife album. In my top 5 albums.

Definitely a "good for drunk dancing at 2 am" track - I think I remember it being played at Islington Elektrowerkz when I used to go there
@@trashandcheese3636 Perfect club song!

Stately and graceful with more than a hint of Kraftwerk.
You're right about Kraftwerk. It was originally titled KW1 (Kraftwerk one)
Such a great song. I love everything about it.
I like economy. Felder in the Eagles. Bill Evans doing less is more jazz. Gorgeous music by my top 5 band.
My favorite NO song since the first listen in 1983.

probably my fave on the album

🥀Driving disappointment with a little hope 🥀
...................🌿C'est la vie 🌿
You go back to Grandma’s house to get that long forgotten melodica.
"Your Silent Face" comes very close musically to Kraftwerk's "Europe Endless", which is perhaps why it's one of the few tracks on Power, Corruption & Lies that I enjoy.
The last time I *almost* cried - hey, I'm a manly-ish man - was hearing this live.
Beautiful song.
This was Good.
The comments below prompted me to recommend Erasure's Real Drums Mix of "Rock Me Gently" from 1995 CD single..
It's "kraftwerkisch" as we say in Germany (or is it "kraftwerkesk"?). And yes, anybody who is familiar with Kraftwerk immediately hears the resemblance as soon as the song starts.
Reminds me of classical chamber music
Wonderful song !
Hugs from Brazil 🎉
Great music for music students great live band and performance
The best of NO here

I suspect it's about the dearth of Ian Curtis.
Bronson! 🎉

This now sounds so thin and feeble compared to, say, the live O2 version from 2021 on TH-cam....
