    Oss Sensei, Are you sure your yoi position is correct at start? I was of the opinion that this yoi position only applied to tekki shodan

      Yes I never seen the hand together in Sandan. Just Shodan.

    In the future, could you do a slower version too?😊 really like that you gave an explanation to some of the moves that otherwise might be hard to get!

    I love seeing different interpretations to a Kata :)
    In Shorin Ryu, besides the dachi, for example, we interpret the first movement you explained (escape a grapple) as deflect a tsuki with the open hand while hitting under the oponents arm with your own tsuki.

      @@frontenac5083 well aware that variations exist in Kata I have however never seen anyone perform this way. Not only is the beginning different he also adds a move at the end. This however is not a good execution of the kata. The mouth noises he makes during his slow (supposedly full speed) to compensate for the lack of kime are enough to put me off.

    I don't understand why, in this channel, Tekki nidan and Tekki sandan start in heisokudachi (hands in front as in Tekki shodan). This is an alteration of the original kata, especially in Shotokan (see for example Funakoshi, 1932 p. 91, 101 and 107 of the 2012 edition of the Suzuki-Johnston translation). Only Tekki shodan is started in shuri-te no kyotsuke, while in nidan and sandan the starting position (yoi) has to be done in Hachijidachi. If this is a recent change introduced by the JKF, I don't understand how it is justified. Thank you.

    Thank you for making these easy to follow video guides!!! I know this must sound like a very beginner question; I haven't trained in Shotokan for a very long time, is there a difference between Tekki Sandan and Heian Sandan? I can't remember the order and levels of a lot of the katas. thank you.

    • @Letham316
      @Letham316 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're separate katas and are quite different. You start by working through the 5 Heian katas, then you move onto the Tekki katas. Sandan means it's the 3rd kata in that series.

      I got to say I do kyokushin proper full strength conditioning and full contact sparring on a regular basis 3 times minimum a week when i was a kid i used to do taekwondo and it was mainly for show to be honest flamboyant kicks but useless on the street so I then start 19 years of boxing with muay thai 4 years of experience my taekwondo kicks certainly help with my kickboxing
      So i wanted to change things up and ive always wanted a black belt to a legitimate art were i live there aint many dojos that are willing to go to the extreme i was looking for with self control sparring and strength conditioning so I found kyokushin whilst training it gives me everything im looking for so I wanted to add something in i looked at BBJ at judo and some other dojo but then I found a legit tang soo do dojo wow they had everything I wanted its hard training and they punish there students in good positive way im going to start TANG SOO DO next week 2x times a week to fill my weekdays up with a full training regime i was very impressed with old school techniques what has happened to the real dojos their aint many left i tend to find 1 in 5 are into strength conditioning which i think their should be in every dojo but used with self control and to build the whole group up no matter what rank or age

    • @barrettokarate
      @barrettokarate 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's because Tang Soo Do comes from Shotokan. Won Kuk Lee, the founder of Tang Soo Do (1944) was a student of Gichin Funakoshi in the 1930s. Others who had also opened up schools after WWII and also began using the term had also studied Shotokan either in Japan or from those who had like Lee. Hong-hi Choi (founder of taekwondo) had studied Shotokan in Japan and was an honorary black belt under Lee's Chung Do Kwan, before getting booted out.

    Hi there! I have a question where I still don´t know the answer to until now! Maybe you know the answer. : Do you know why the Japan self defense force chose the Shotokan style of Karate as their unarmed fighting style? Why not a full contact style like Kyokushinkai Karate for example? Or is that just a coincidence?

    • @josuetorres7423
      @josuetorres7423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, this is basically because there was no kyokunshinkai at the war, aslo you have to learn a little bit more about history and how Funakoshi (founder of shotokan) was the one that exported karate form okinawa to Japan (there are a lot of huge details that Im ignoring of course) so the Japan self defense have to made out from shotokan

    From the outside, the kata is fine. But substance is completely missing! You cannot achieve this simply by unwinding the techniques. Maybe that's because of the age of the adept? What has to take place in the body in order for this substance to be reached? I miss this component in most of the clips?

    It's totally wrong your execution! Your beginning (yoi) is wrong. It's not starts like Tekki sho dan (the the ending is wrong also for the same reason)! Besides that, you're adding a movement that doesn't exist right before the last kiai. Please delete this video and do the kata again in the correct way. Oss

      The beginning and the end are unusual but the rest is fine. There’s no added movement before the last kiai. There are different admitted ways of performing this kata (including variants before the last kiai), and this is one of them.

    • @andrecardoso8726
      @andrecardoso8726 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frontenac5083 "Unusual"? Incorrect! That's the correct word. There is no variation for this. By the way, there is no such move before the last kiai in any really serious school of karate. No recognized master from any really serious karate school does this kata this way. None.
