I love the underlying message mr Waterson is conveying: we as a species can only be succesfull as a community and a community is only succesfull when it's not about money (and when it isn't exclusive).
not true. I did things without the motivation of money and everyone rejected me. Just lied or refused to help... or said "wow amazing, good luck on doing everything ALONE" (as if they expected me to be successful without anyones help).
The "power system" reacted against me. If its not money it's power. People want to keep the world in a certain way. everyone does. its instinctive, like schoolkids bullying. You don't need a conspiracy to have everyone act on the same hidden agenda just like bullies don't need a conspiracy, its written into their DNA. So if I made something that would change everything, everyone would react to make sure I can't get help.
@@collection6062 I'm sorry, but as your arguments are very personal and anecdotal, even paranoid, there's no reason to address them. I hope you're able to change your misanthropic worldview, the people around you can't.
Open science is great and accelerates discovery. You know what else is great - *open access* to journal articles. I can't read most of the articles in Nature journals due to paywalls - even though I helped pay for most of the studies with my tax dollars.
Is there a new narrator to these videos? I'm sorry to say but I don't find it a particularly pleasant narration voice.. The nasality is kinda piercing my ears.. (Again nothing against the narrator, but as feedback for the team..) Maybe you could EQ out the higher frequencies a bit?
Apologies that was my voice (the journalist). First time narrating my own work. I will look into digitally softening my voice, I also find some female voices hard to listen to - any more tech advice on this appreciated!
@@ZanBarberton Hi Zan! Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it! :-D No need to apologise! To be fair, I have no idea if more people feel the same or if it's just me. I just thought it might be helpful feedback that could improve the watch experience. I think tweaking the EQ profile of the recording could improve the warmth/softness of the recording a lot. Maybe its possible to save that profile as a digital filter or something so you won't have to set it manually every time. (Not sure how to do it though...) Good luck! Hope it helped a bit :-)
@1:47 "The genome is all the information that's passed on from one generation to the next. And that's it." No. Importantly, epigenetics is also passed down. It's a minor subset of the genome that we can transfer between organisms, the rest need a specific environment with particular epigenetics to become information, the code for growing the new organism.
That voiceover is doing an unforgivable disservice to this fascinating story. With all the paid subscriptions, can't @nature video at least hire a decent voiceover artist?
01:36 "Biology is like quicksand and you just sunk deeper and deeper in to the complexity" ¡Really True!
Alexandra Elbakyan showed us the way to open science with her sci-hub project, that looks like the best thing humanity done in years

The Chemist was frustrated that the Biologists did not have the equivalent of a Periodic Table.

Absolutely well done and definitely keep it up!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Genomic and personalized medical based on your genetic profile will most definitely be the future of medication

Guess the worm disliked the video!

Yeh pretty sure they'd know that.

Perhaps in these early days of sequencing, scientists should've employed the age-old, tried-and-true method of "tap-tap no 'rasies."
Psalms 22:6
“But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.”
King James Version (KJV)

All the subscriptions - plus this video was sponsored by Illumina.
Is this a video abouy Dr. Fauchi?
Hey old man
Well someone hurry up and close it, you're letting all the philosophical air out. Do you think we're running this science to understand the outdoors?
