For particularly icky things like cleaning the toilet, I sometimes use cut up pieces of my husbands old holey stained or torn tshirts. He is extremely hard on his clothes so when his T-shirts are past mending they get cut up into disposable rags. For everything else I use old wash cloths. It’s saved me a decent chunk of change.

I don't know how to manage the dirty towels. I don't like having dirty kitchen towels in the laundry room. I wash only when I have a full load of dirty laundry. To avoid the dirty kitchen towels, I use paper towels.

Once paper towels hit $26, I purchased a drawer full of tea towels from IKEA. They are absorbent, make great kitchen towels, and We put them in a small bucket in the kitchen and wash a load once a week. Wish I’d thought of this a long time ago.

Honestly this is one of those things you should do even if you can't part with paper towels ( everyone's life is different). Paper towels in my house are for biohazard messes and direct food contact only bc there is no in unit laundry in my apartment and it just isn't healthy too keep items soiled in such a way around. One roll of paper towels can last us months, we buy them maybe twice a year.

For cat or dog pee or puke save old newspapers or magazines, i also save non plastic stuffing in box orders sent to me. Lay it on the accident and youll clean it all up. When you get the physical waste off, then you can clean up the area with towels. I know, ive been in feline rescue for over 40 years.
