It is really nice seeing a newbie learn some, it is actually quite instructive. Much better than just listening to someone that has done it hundreds of times. And the interaction is great, reminds me of how my wife and I are interacting right now...

I used to overhear a really clever, really nice tutor when he was teaching. Instead of “telling” people what to do, his form of words was “what I like to do is...”. Very effective.

Good video rodian, in Brazil we use plumb bob instead of level, it was difficult for me to change when I arrived in London, but the level is much more accurate
You two have me absolutely cracking up in these challenge videos. You two sound just like my wife and I when we work together. Constant innuendo (which is probably why we have several sons! Lol) and a fair amount of smack talk! With the knowledge gained from your videos, we are building a 16.25' X 3.5' raised garden bed using brick we've carefully dismantled from a former fireplace mantle inside the home. Yesterday (4APR) we finished the foundation trench, today (5APR) we pour the foundation, and next weekend, we at start laying bricks Rodian (and now Hollie!) style! Thanks for what you do bud, seriously. Your videos have given me confidence to tackle this job while on this damned virus lockdown! Hope you two continue to stay happy and healthy!

Good work, I'm a traditional stone wall specialist so I hardly ever use muck or mortar haha I repair old city walls and castles here in ireland and been a bricklayer yourself I'd love to see if you have the eye for different kind of laying
Wow, sounds like a good job. I've seen a fair bit of dry stone walling and always impressed how it fits together perfectly! My dream is to renovate an old church so hearing you working on old castles sounds like the dream!
@@RodianBuilds yeah Rodian where I come from in Ireland is waterford and the kind of work I do it actually dates back earlyer then the pyramids ( don't mind my spelling) and money wise it's about 120_200 euro a sq metre
@@RodianBuilds Can you show both types of pick n dip? One where you dip the brick in the muck to get your joint and one where you pick up one brick, put a joint on it and spread enough for one brick. Both are very efficient but I would be cool for you opinion on it.
One thing I've never seen you address (although I may have missed it). Do you pre-wet/soak your bricks? I've recently had a delivery and they are all covered in a fine sand. I'm assuming I need to wash them first to stop them drying out the muck? I've seen others soak overnight. What's your advice?
I would only suggest soaking stocks on hot days to stop drying out the mortar. Most other bricks should be fine. I would also suggest using a mortar retarder to help slow the muck going off on hotter days or with dryer bricks.

No; Rodian is a great tutor & goes to great lengths to explain what he’s doing & why he’s doing it. The gable knee is a prime example of that. Hollie on the other hand should start her own channel doing what she is good at. She’d get 1000’s in a very short time.
