The Biggest Unclogging I Have Ever Done To Drain A Flooding Road. Floating Moose Piles

  • We were at this exact location about 3 weeks ago and we unclogged it partially enough to get it off the road and I thought it couldn't be completely unclogged because there was a tree down there but turns out it was the other side that's crumpled and wouldn't have been able to be opened anyways so awesome we were able to successfully get the entire Culvert open
I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

One of the best culvert unclogging I’ve seen for a while! Love you channel, what with culverts and drains, I love it. I’m a 57 year old disabled person, living in the uk. I was getting out the car in my road and saw that both the drains outside my house were clogged after the rains because of pine needles, so I hobble over with my walking stick and start trying to unclog the drains with my stick and good leg! Husband comes out “what the hell you doing?” He thought I’d gone mad when I told him, I carried on poking and scraping the drains, then hubby said “oh goodness sake, I’ll do it!” Now when it rains he’s out there checking so I don’t go!! We both think it’s hilarious and he thinks I’ve gone and lost the plot! Thanks Post 10 you certainly made our life more entertaining! 😅😂😂

I know you are always worried about filling waders or your tall boots with water but I may have another solution for you. Have you tried a pair of neoprene diving pants or shorts? Diving wear has come a long way in diversity. Diving suits come in pieces now and depending on where you buy them come pretty cheap. The lowest I saw is around $20.00 for a pair of diving shorts. Also you can buy diving socks to keep your feet warm and dry inside your boots. But the idea of the diving pants or shorts is so you don't ruin your jeans.
    Just an idea anyway.

For those who think you tire out too easy, need to try to this one day and see how strenuous it is. . .
Or read up on the power behind water that flows fast while trying to remove things. It's all science on mass and force with PSI, etc
I think you're doing a good job to help cities, and parks, etc to unclog these dams which cause hazards.

You are a brave and knowledgeable man to go around and unclog culverts with all of the dangers this poses to your wellbeing. I'd be out there trapping the beavers and grating off the culverts. Aka get some tags and permission then nab a few of them gremlins. You can get endless amout of scrap from the junkyard for free to do this as well. That's what we do around here to fix the clogging problem once and for all. Then you just clear off the makeshift grate every year or so and have very little flooding(besides maybe the occasional failure or big downed tree or something).

That other culvert is only damaged there at the opening, and it got damaged by the bucket off of, the loader. What the driver of the loader was doing was using his bucket to clean out right in front of the culvert, but he got to close from the looks of it 3 to 4 different times and wound up hitting the sides of the culvert. The sides, of the openings of the culvert.
You can see where he hit each time. If I was there, I could get it cleaned out. What you need is a Roundpoint not a square point shovel but a round point shovel. And then you need a steel rake which I’ve seen you use them.
Now, I will tell you how to fix them, so that the steel rake head, does not come away from the wooden handle. Ever again. And, furthermore, It is very easily done. Very easily fixed so that the wooden handle and, the steel rake head, never separates again as long as you own it. Here is what all you will need. You get a bolt and a nut and 2 lock washers.
And then out in your garage you put it in a Vice. The steel part of the rake. Where the wooden handle goes into the rake, you drill a hole through the steel and through the wood out the other side. And then you slide the bolt in the hole and tighten it up. And then the steel rake head will never come off again. You will break the handle before the steel rake, head ever comes off again.

I think what you might be describing is called Noseeums. You can't keep them out with regular bug screens as they are so small, and some are so tiny you can't even see them, but they bite and it hurts. In Florida, we have over 47 varieties of them. It is amazing how industrious these beavers are, and they are incredible builders. Thank you for sharing your adventures and knowledge with us. Stay safe.

When you said this was the "biggest unclogging" you had ever done, you said a mouthful. This was HUGE! I'm so glad you started setting up a second camera because I love watching it start flowing out the other end of the culvert. Great video! Statements are often made about "angry beavers" and hoping they don't come after the person who has destroyed all their hard work. I always had the idea that they were skittish and would do their best to avoid any sort of interaction with humans, even a human who destroyed one of their dams but I just looked this up in Google and, though extremely rare, they actually have been known to attack humans, even humans who are not destroying their dams! These attacks are so rare that I wonder if the animal who attacked the two people in the story I saw were rabid. Whatever the case, I guess you are very wise to be alert when you are in their known habitat.
