No poo for 9 years! I used to have long hair, and it worked then. But now it's very short and it's even easier. Every time you showed your weekly progress I wanted to take a towel and preen your hair (don't mean to sound weird). Did you ever try that? That was my secret. Instead of the brush, I used the towel to preen from my scalp to the ends, this made such a huge difference and was the real turning point when I found this out. It's faster than brushing and absorbs so much more grease. I also think I didn't think about it as much, being a guy...but after a couple months I never looked back.
I've been water only for several years. The texture does change because you're used to squeeky stripped hair & it will settle into a softer oily texture. Now I gently wash my scalp under hot water & hair will eventually dry faster. Also, so many say it takes weeks to transition but I found it took several months. Combo hair transition plus learning curve on washing technique
Ive started no shampoo for a month now and my hair is so greasy and very non aesthetic looking. I hope so much that eventually within time my hair will become soft and healthy looking.
Here's what I been doing with my hair after I've stopped using shampoo☺️. There's this medieval hair combing method in which you simply brush your hair everyday for a long time (by long time I mean at least 30 minutes 😅.🌿 If you have short hair then brushing less than 30 minutes might work just fine for you🌿) . First I divide my hair in two sections. Then starting with one section, brush the hair with a very wide teeth comb. After detangling I take a few drops of oil(coconut oil because that's what I have. You can use any oil you want) and apply that on the ends of my hair (because that part tends to get dry. 🌿 You can use more or less than few drops if it's necessary for your hair 🌿). Next step is to start combing the hair with a comb which has thin gap between each teeth ( is used for getting rid of lice). I just brush my hair from root to tip. Each section of hair for at least 15 minutes(you might have to clean your brush one or two times in between if it gets too dirty). And after I am done with both section of my hair the shine is unbelievable 😄(🌿 if you are someone who doesn't care about having shiny hair then brushing your hair every two days should be alright . You can try going more days in between brushing your hair using this method and see if that works. Rest of the days just brush your hair how you normally would🌿). There's no grease of flakes on the hair. It feels and looks like freshly washed hair. I don't use any other products on my hair. Simply use water for washing the hair. But I tend to make a bun every other day while showering because the tips of my hair tends to get dry if I wash them every day. But I make sure to get the roots of my hair wet and just massage them somehow with my fingers under running water 😅. Rest of the days I just wet my hair completely while massaging the roots a little. That's what I've been doing for the past two months. And everytime I tell someone that I haven't been using any shampoo, soap or conditioner the surprised look on their face is real😁. By the way, I live in a tropical climate and I have thigh length hair which is bleached from the mid length to tip. Never had to deal with the greasy feeling neither do I have split ends problem with my bleached hair because of this medieval combing method😊. Never had itching problem. My scalp smells just like my skin ☺️. So give it a try. You can just search medieval hair combing method on TH-cam.

@@brokenbutterfly3178 I just make bun on top of my head and sit under running water 😅. Just try not to wet the bun. That way the hair length should stay dry mostly. I am not sure if that makes any sense 😅.

Who else is struggling with using just water only?! Here is an honest, hopefully more transparent version of the nopoo journey that I hope you can relate to... Let me know all your tips & tricks below (thank you!)
I've been using apple cider vinegar and water ONLY to cure dandruff, works like magic, the problem however is my hair is dry and stays dry..., I actually WANT more oil for it to look not as bad, any tips for a natural conditioner?
Do you live in a hard water area perhaps? I know that without a shower filter, I get dry scalp flakes which can be confused for dandruff. I'm wondering if using a shower filter (recommendation in my description box) + just water only (without apple cider vinegar), you won't get dandruff and also not need a conditioner as you are not getting rid of your natural oils. Without a shower filter, you could use cooler temperature water, and put argan oil in your hair before washing it with your usual routine. Happy experimenting and let me know if you have any success!
There is something no one speak about, it's sebum quality... It depends on your health and your diet, but if your sebum is of bad quality it is thick and oxides rapidly, it becomes waxy and comedogenic. I have this issue, it cause me acne (even though I have normal to dry skin type) and makes it impossible to go water only. I think in my case it is due to diet, I am eating way to little omega 3, I probably have hormonal problems too since my mother suffer from severe endometriosis... It gets better when I eat less sugar, more fruits (antioxydants), I am starting to take linen oil every day, olive oil is life, I eat organic, less gluten, going lactose free was the biggest improvement... Oh and another thing is your hair porosity, if you have low porosity it won't absorb as much oil as porous hair (that's why you see a lot of people with curly/wavy hair succeeding water only, it's easier for them). I know I can't go water only until I take cate of my health issues (I have bad digestion too and it makes it hard for your body...) For now I wash my hair with rye flour mixed to other well known low poo options (shikakai, chickpeas flour, eggs, etc...) and I mix what I feel like using. Because shikakai and chickpeas flour are too aggressive for my hair and rye flour and eggs are too gentle. Have a nice day!
I have problems with water only too. The longest I tried it were three weeks. My scalp was super itchy and oily, Strands were standing up on its own, my dandruff got worse. After this torture I got back to my weekly soap bar wash. German hard water too. Vinegar rinse made it even worse.
I am closing out week 5 with water only, I’ve done a few rye flour washes. Something that helps was preening in the shower, as well as out (before). I feel we go into water only thinking (myself included) it will be easier. However, we’re going from chemically cleaning your hair to now having to mechanically clean your hair. It’s more work! You’re doing all the clean and distributing. Shampoo is easier.
That's such a great way of looking at it - mechanically cleaning your hair is definitely more work! Especially with long hair. Best wishes for your no shampoo journey and I hope it works in the long run :)
Tip on shampoo that works extremely well: Shampoo: Mix chickpea flour and water until it turns into a paste (its ok if a little bit watery), pour on your hair (I do this by standing outside my shower and bend over to wash my hair), and massage your whole scalp/hair/ends for like 2 mins or whatever feels good to you. Wash out thoroughly (there will be residue left when dried but you can easily shake it/brush it out when it's dried). Conditioner (optional but makes hair soft and restores the PH): rinse with a mix of 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar + 1 tbsp lemon juice + 0.5 - 1.0 liter of water. Let sit for 30 sec and then rinse with water. Not thoroughly, just a little. Dry as usual however you like. If using water only and you get very greasy, sticky hair, might be because you have very hard water. I do and had no idea why water only didn't work for me. If this is your problem, look below. Wash your hair and massage thoroughly through your scalp and hair. When done, rinse with lemon juice (1 lemon) mixed with water and massage again. When done, either don't rinse and rinse the next day or rinse right away. When the hair is dry, use a brush to distribute the sebum evenly through the hair. I do one part of the hair, wash my brush with soap, dry it, and then do next part. Do this as many times as you like. This makes a huge different when struggling with Water Only. Take care, stay safe, love our nature/planet and yourself!
Hi, little late to comment now but I think your hair looks gorgeous and it honestly didn't look "bad" or obviously "dirty" even at the first few weeks in between your soap nut washes. It looked healthy and well kempt. I think many of us are more aware of our own hair texture and conditions so it's hard to deal with the change and feeling of uncleanness. Hard water never worked for me. I moved to a place with amazing water and water only works amazing here
Oh you’re so lucky! I have water envy hehe
Do you add any oils to your hair on the ends of your hair
Hi, why didn't you use shampoo without sls, and without parvans ?
how many days it will take to thick hair density when we wash hair with water?
Can anyone tell me what to use to prevent smells if using no shampoo or gels ??
Should we wash hair only with water everyday ? Or a few time in week.
I tried to hold out for as long as possible between water washes, but it’s down to personal preference! There’s no wrong or right answer in my opinion.
wow are you german?
No, just live in Germany :)
Heather Clark 😚
You have such beautiful redish brown big eyes ♡
Oh hii
Why do this to yourself? Just give your greasy gross hair a wash with a good quality natural shampoo bar. We were in lockdown, not living in Medieval times. Would you go 6 weeks without washing your face or your body?
I don't understand why make your life so hard, just use shampoo
Cuz it's toxic? Less plastic in the world makes you hair grow faster and healthier
@@shayredding8180 I think it is toxic for your mental health to feel uncomfortable with oily hair every day, there are shampoos that are not in the plastic bottles, it cost more money, but if you want reduce plastic, it is possible to do without making your life a hell and hating your oily hair every day.
@@mrsRebelQueen i don't got oily Hair ever !! Just depends on the person stop being judgy and let people do what they wanna do with there hair your irrelevant
@@mrsRebelQueen just think about how toxic the plastic situation is for someone who is determined to stop using it. For some people the thought of nature being destroyed wins the struggle of making your life a little more complicated, and if that’s the case, your actually doing it for your mental health.
@@mrsRebelQueen you're exactly right.
