  • Bill describes how you can use battery backup with a transfer switch to power critical loads during a temporary power outage.
Shown are the Anker Solix F3800 (6000 watt, 3800 Watt-Hour) main unit with a 3800 Watt-Hour add-on battery. Also shown is the Reliance Pro/Tran 2 Manual Transfer switch. Before installation, an Emporia Vue Energy Monitor was used to determine watt, and watt-hour usage of critical loads. The measured historic average of energy Watt-Hour (Wh) usage per day of my chosen loads was as follows: TV 2030 Wh, main fridge, 1310 Wh, small fridge 245 Wh, Office 200 Wh, WiFi 530 Wh, Router modem 577 Wh. This totals a little over 4800 Watt-Hours per 24 hours. Since my main unit provides 3800 Wh and my add-on battery provides an additional 3800Wh, I can easily power those loads for more than a day. (Most of my previous power outages have only been 3 to 4 hours.) If the power outage is long enough to drain my batteries i can run my gas generator at 120 volts AC to recharge the batteries at a max rate allowed by the Solix of 1800 watts. ( that calculates to 4.22 hours to recharge totally dead batteries which would be unlikely.) This unit provides 240 Volt service too, but I chose to use my ventless propane fireplace for heat in the winter instead of running my heat pump or air conditioners in the summer.
Detailed DIY installation videos are coming soon.

Sure, as long as the outage isn't too long. Ha ha
