The problem is that the early Church decided to tag the newer Jesus stories onto the Old Testament. The OT does not stand up to scrutiny as it is basically an early version of the Mormon morale boosting con trick told to the Hebrews to make them feel special and chosen by "god".

Mm..yet these kinds of things , often are redacted, by nations ashamed of their dubious actions..
Open and honest, might motivate some to accept ..
When we have people voted in to become MP,s or presidents, who lie to get power and keep it
      Our confidence diminishes
      Look at the result !
      The author of scripture
      Does not do this.
Even though we are all his children
      He s not under delusion
He knows we are in a mess
      Because we are independent
      We need guidance and direction
Which is the truth we will be made to accept.

Its being theorized right now with tons of evidence to support the claim, that it was indeed an asteroid that hit, large enough to cause an atomic bomb like explosion, wiping out the two cities, called something else at the time, and surrounding areas. This would have been big enough to wipe all life in the area leaving just dust, and possibly salt from space, behind. Its pretty interesting. Dating shows this would've happened way before the Bible or even Christianity, possibly near the early bronze age? I think? And that it's more than possible that someone was far enough way to witness it safely, telling the tale, and over time, turning into this story.

They don’t even consider that less than 50, 100, 150 years ago life was significantly different let alone 2000+ years ago. The amount we’ve learned about the world in the last two decades alone is astonishing.

Also their are different forms of what is right and wrong and since you most likely base your morals from the government (aka the law) you think this is wrong, but for other people it's not. You can say it's bad if you want but at the end it's a form of justice

Genesis 19 is why I’m an atheist today. The “hero” of the story offers his daughters up to be gang raped. Neither angel objects. Lot is still saved by God’s mercy in the end.
I believe rape to be one of the three most immoral things a person can do (alongside slavery and torture). Clearly, I have morals that didn’t come from the bible. If those morals didn’t come from the bible, then how can I honestly say ANY of my morals came from it. If I don’t need the bible for morality, then I don’t need it at all. And another atheist is born.

Mr. Friendly Atheist doesn’t sound so friendly, more acerbic and bitter. So because they were engaged implies they weren’t virgins? That is assuming a lot. The culture at the time valued guests. If they were under a host’s care, the host offered all the protection they could. I don’t condone this, but then, Lot offered his daughters according to the custom at the time. That sounds awful to us, but by offering his family to placate the mob in order to save others under his care was considered noble. Aspects of that host/guest mindset still exist today in Middle East. A host will protect their guests, at all costs. The story doesn’t imply the incest was good. It just describes it as having happened, warped as it is.

@@seiowens3970 There's friendly and then there's incest and rape apologia. I think it is reasonable to get somewhat offended by rape. As for the daughter's chastity. I went back and listened. He specifically says some versions of the bible say married. So not really that unreasonable an assumption.
As for protecting guests. I guess that seems noble enough. How come the three men didn't try and fight the mob first, or run away? When you take your problem and forcibly make it someone else's you have not solved a moral issue.
If the bible is just a collection of stories. It's a weird and often disgusting group of stories. If it's a group of parables meant for morality. Well, *at best* ,they are very outdated. If it's supposed to be the literal word of God. Well any god that behaved in such a manner deserves no praise.
Edit: I don't know how familiar you are with the bible. But the bible does basically imply this incest is good or at least necessary. Because it uses Lot's male lineage thru his daughter's sons to justify later biblical events. Remove Lot as the father and the Abrahamic line to certain later characters is severed. One recurring theme in the bible is brother against brother, or family against family. The Moabites and Ammonites end up often being an enemy of Israel.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. And he'll never be able to understand the Bible. You need spiritual eyes to understand it. That's why he told the last Church Age which is Revelation Chapter 3:14-22 verse 18 he tells the church and the people what to do, so they can see. See in the Bible means to understand.
Message to the Church in Laodicea
      14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
How did Able know to bring the right sacrifice unto God? Able brought a lamb. But his brother Cain brought the fruits of the field. Able knew by faith which is revelation that it was the blood that did it. Able was the son of Adam. Cain was the son of Satan. Remember when Jesus Christ ask his disciples the question about who does thou say I am in the book of Matthew 16:13
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
So without revelation you'll never understand the Bible. I don't what your education is. Remember Paul was a highly educated man. He was taught by one of the greatest teacher in that time. Gamaliel. Paul said that everything he learned he had to forget to find Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
      3. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:14. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Until you get the spirit of God you'll never understand it. It's not for you because you doubt it.
For you who's made negative comments about the Bible. Do me a favor, and read this scripture and keep it in your memory, so when it happens you'll how blind and lost you are. I pray that the would open eyes before it happens though.
Revelation 13:16. The Mark of the Beast
      16. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17. And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. 666 is the Pope. Research his crown. Also read Revelation 17 the entire Chapter, and pay attention to the colors of garments, and research and how it's decked in jewels and a golden cup. Who killed and tortured all the saints in the Middle and Dark Ages? She's sits on 7 mountains. Church in the Bible means woman. Research who's sitting on these mountains. Oh I could keep going, but I'll stop. Research it and repent.
      Woman on the Beast
      1. And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2. With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
      3. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5. And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
      The Mystery Explained
      7. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
      8. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9. And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
      11. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. 12. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

Mrs. Lot's wife XD LMAO At least you tried to give her a name. None of the writers seemed to care. They just needed a victim to blame for curiosity and not eaves dropping when the two strangers threatened the whole town with death and gave Lot instructions on how to escape it and who better than Lot's wife to get out of the way so Lot's daughters could date-rape him because the nearby town was too far away to preserve the family line.
How far are nearby towns anyway if two engaged women can't reach it before they're unable to get pregnant? I bet they had the same tour guide as Moses will get. "There's the town, I will get you there safely but now I will get you lost for forty years. Better stack some booze to date-rape your father or you'll never have children."

Twenty-five years ago the New York Times reported that geologists studying the area around the purported location of Sodom suggested that the story of Lot's wife was an origin myth that sought to explain the presence of naturally occurring formations in the area. Here is an explanatory passage from the article: "The geologists said that Lot's wife did not appear to turn into a pillar of salt because she dared to look back but because of the briny nature of the Dead Sea . . . Mr. Harris said by telephone from Canada that the Dead Sea was full of salt floes that might have been thrown up by surging water to resemble a female outline. 'Hence legend is created out of what can now be explained as a simple geological phenomenon,' he said." Harris also speculated that "saturated soil and highly flammable bitumen, rather than God's wrath, was apparently behiind the demise of [Sodom and Gomorrah."
