Yeah, Coral is a wild child but taking on TWO Paradox Pokemon isn't out of the ordinary for her persona. Let's not forget her Glalie took out TWO Elite 4 + 1 Gym Leader level Pokemon at the same time!
Sure, her ice ball had to blow itself up but still!
Also keep in mind that the only thing to tank her Glalie’s Self Destruct so far is Lucius’ Black Rayquaza.

Her Glalie did INSANE damage to Rayquaza too! What a powerhouse! 🔥
The thing I love about the Explorers is that their Pokémon have so much personality. When you think of Villains having Pokémon, you think of the Pokémon being tools, but Glalie and Garganacle have so much personality they rival Team Rocket’s Carnivine. Glalie is rambunctious and wild, as a contrast to its serious appearance, while Garganacle is cruel and uncaring, showing no mercy, as a contrast to its Minecraft like look. Even Chalce’s Medicham is seen doing some Tai Chi. I swear, Glalie and Garganicle have more personality in a couple episodes than Team Rocket’s Unova Pokémon in an entire series.

It really does feel like the writers put a ton of thought into each of the Explorers Pokemon! They match their trainers so perfectly, I love it 😁
I notice a trend with the kids. They never consider catching Pokemon (Black Rayquaza aside), and seems they don't carry Pokeballs on them. Typically, their captures have involved one of the RVT adults (often Friede) giving them a Pokeball to provide both the means and the encouragement.
That's the thing that really bothers me. These kids are supposed to be trainers and trainers are supposed to catch Pokemon. They don't even seem interested in catching new Pokemon.
None of them have the specific goal to be "Trainers" though. Liko wants to help Terapagos, Dot wants to see more of the outside world and Roy wants to catch the black Rayqaza. Their main goal was never to become champ or catch as many Pokémon as possible. And that's perfectly fine, there are many ways to be a Trainer.

It's because Pokémon Horizons focuses more on befriending Pokémon and then capturing them, rather than the typical approach of battling, weakening them, and then throwing a Poké Ball to catch them, and 'done! There you go!' People forget that Pokémon Horizons is VERY plot-heavy, and it's not like Ash's Pokémon anime, where his main goal was being a pokemon master and 'gotta catch 'em all'. It's a different direction.
Overall a funny episode with mostly Sango shenanigans. Like how early in the episode she's just tossing stones onto a crystal while spying on the trio, and she VERY easily could've blown her and Onyx's cover. It's also really nice to see the villains catch a new Pokemon again to boost their development, and REALLY loving Sango and Scream Tail's interactions so far.
It's also pretty cool how they managed to work together for just a moment with Sango having Glalie use Self Destruct and Scream Tail launch Glalie with Boomburst(?) while also launching Great Tusk back, even though that ended up backfiring as Great Tusk completely overpowers Boomburst(?). (And Onyx REALLY needs a raise with how he's babysitting Sango, and now having to babysit basically 2 of her as Sango now has Scream Tail, another pink gremlin that screams)
We also got Roy proving himself to be a powerful trainer, although he was caught off guard as he was chased by the Paradox Pokemon Sandy Shocks early on, but later on he managed to defeat it ALONE proving once again that the trio REALLY is ready for Area Zero. People really need to remember that at this point in the series, Liko, Roy and Dot aren't really "rookie" trainers anymore considering that so far they have battled against Agents (Zir and Conia) and Admins (Sango and Onyx) of the Explorers and WON, multiple of Lucius' Pokemon (Liko, Roy and Dot getting a sparring battle against Arboliva, Galarian Moltres and Lapras respectively) and holding their own really well against Kleavor, and even battled against an Entei for a while before earning its respect.
I also find it pretty funny and cute how after Roy defeated Sandy Shocks, it ended up imitating Roy's singing as it walks off. Personally I'm fine with Roy not catching Sandy Shocks since he already has a Kilowattrel, an electric type Pokemon.
Also, they don't need to catch new mons. Thematically, they already are the modern day six heroes, so there is no point in more mons, at least for this arc. Don't you think?
Briar mentioning both past and future is reassuring as it means they aren't just focusing on Scarlet, and we'll likely see the Violet Paradoxes later down the line.
Great Tusk rolling was also a surprise for me, because it never does that in the games and those... great tusks always looked like they'd get in the way if it tried to.
It'd be so cool if they return to Area Zero towards the end of the series, and that time there's only future Paradox Pokemon!
I think the reason why Area Zero might've felt "off" to you is because it didn't have the same kind of otherworldly background music like in the games.

My issue on this episode is how their version of Area Zero, the place itself can go night mode when it's constantly day inside that abyss due to the influence of fossilized souls of Terapagos condensed into Tera crystals.
Or are they trying to avoid copyright issues with Made in Abyss because of the place's similarity? Even the game's internal code says there are seven layers inside Area Zero (with two of them are assigned to Underdepths) similar to the beloved Lovecraftian Manga. The Violet Paradoxes are quite alike to those Aubade like Reg too, time also flows differently in Area Zero.

This episode was extremely exciting for me, backstory time!
My entire Pokemon Career has revolved around Ground Type Pokémon and Fighting Types and I’ve been waiting since XY for a Ground/Fighting Pokemon to exist and I was finally blessed with the sheer raw savagery that is Great Tusk and Donphan is one of my favorite Pokemon especially since it can curl into a wheel and roll around. This episode finally showed how Great Tusk can indeed curl up and roll something I theorized that it couldn’t, this is such a minor moment but monumental for a guy like me. This Great Tusk is not a Titan but not exactly normal size it’s at least 10-12ft tall but I’m just happy to actually see paradox mons in action.
learned something interesting today apparently Coral’s English voice actress is Lizzie Freeman who’s the voice of Pomni and many other Glitch characters,
I guess Scream Tail was already showing a liking to Sango & Glalie given its similar Sango behavior/personality AND even Glalie when against Great Tusk: after Glalie used Crunch it did the same move & when Glalie used a wide range breath attack with Blizzard, she tried the same with I think was Hyper Voice (Not gonna lie, Scream Tail's cry might just beat out Guzzlord's cry!!). And I guess a prehistoric machine-like creature discovering rhythmic melodies is quite endearing for Sandy Shocks to take a liking to Roy for a catch possibility.
I think roy 3 Pokémon is going to be ether rayquaza like liko got terapagos but I really don’t see that happening or since carol got a past paradox Roy will catch a future 1 or roy gets a regular Pokémon really love roy getting a poliwag or his mom poliwhirl and evolving it into a politoad so it would have a family connection like dot 3 I want to be a rockruff.
@@shadowwizard2383 I guess it'll be hard to determine whether or not Rayquaza will accept having another trainer other than Lucius. The only Future Paradoxes that they have hinted to appear are from what I've heard is Iron Hands & Valiant (but it did seem Sandy Shocks to have some connection after having met Roy). Politoed I can understand due to his mom having a Poliwrath (and could fit in with the whole music theme)
The Coral and Scream Tail interactions was the highlight
At first, I thought that Sango's relationship with Glailie works because although she's pretty rough on him, she still cares about him. And Glailie is submissive and accepts her as a trainer.
But then, this episode. Sango and Glailie both starts bullying the s**t out of Scream Tail and suddenly their relationship makes more sense. They both share the same brain cell.
I actually really agree with your last statement. It could be because the horizons team has officially said in interviews that they don't really care much for wanting to adapt much from scarlet and violet. Because of the usual weekly budget of this series, area zero doesn't have the same vibes as the game, it really feels more like "just another place". And I think that's gonna suck if they end up making laqua really beautiful and a spectical to look at, while leaving area zero looking more mundain. It'll feel a little disheartening and give the impression that the writers don't care that much for the source material they're working with. I can just imagine that something like paldean winds would live up to what area zero feels like.
Adapt much of Scarlet *AND* Violet?

Sango and Scream Tail were absolutely cute together! This episode was overall great! Too bad Roy didn't had a Pokeball equipped at the time it was needed lol
I'm not surprised that Sandy Shocks wasn't caught yet, but I'm looking forward for Roy and Dot catch another Pokémon. I wish this Series would utilize a bit of both versions Scarlet and Violet, because I believe Iron Moth would have been a great option for Dot, it matches really well with her interest with tech.
Sango catching Scream Tail is my favorite catch of the whole anime. Ash or Horizons.

@The_Random_Creature yes, an oni is a mythical japanese demon/spirit resembling an ogre or otherwise. Originally they're depicted as evil monsters in Japanese folklore, but current media can depict them as evil, good, otherwise.
Honestly, Coral and Scream Tail together was a match made in... well... somewhere.😆But in all seriousness those two were made for each other. Pure comedy gold. Those two will be a joy to watch in the future. And I think Roy will catch Sandy Shocks later, as it's clear the two like each other and have similar vibes. It'll probably come to Roy's aid in the battle with Entei/Gouging Fire, cementing its status as a new teammate. Plus Roy and Dot really need to catch some new Mons to expand their teams.
Also, I agree with your last point. Area Zero didn't look... alien enough to be Area Zero. It looks like any other old environment in the anime, just with some Paradox Pokemon and Tera Crystals littered about. Otherwise it looks pretty generic unlike the games, where it felt like a whole other alien dimension like the various Ultra Spaces in Gen 7 despite being smack dab in the middle of Paldea. Hopefully that'll get fixed a bit as they go deeper into Area Zero, as otherwise it just looks like your run-of-the-mill Pokemon anime sanctuary.
Overall, great review. Coral and Scream Tail are just ripe with potential in more ways than one. And I feel that Sandy Shocks will join Roy's team, just give it a bit of time, as not all captures happen on the same episode the Mon in question appears (look at Ash's Gible, for example). But overall a solid review from you.

the only thing that disappoints me in this episode is that we never get to hear the anime arrangement of Area Zero's theme.

Pretty decent intro episode for Area Zero. It looks cool in the anime and I like that Briar confirmed that both future and past Paradox mons coexist in Area Zero.
Really hope, that they will stay at Area Zero some more time after Gouging Fire and Rayquaza stuff, so we could see more of them.
The best part was definitely Coral and Scream Tail interaction and their battle against Great Tusk. It's like they were made for eachother with constant roasting. And Coral even caught it.
Sidian could've also get some Paradox. Iron Hands suits him.
The downside for me was how they off-screened Roy's fight against Sandy Shocks. But they might setting up his capture, just like anime previously did with Krokorok and Litten.
Not sure if I agree with Area Zero being “ruined” because I felt like it was a fairly decent episode and gave a decent presentation of what the area had to offer.
And I wasn’t expecting a capture from Sango of all characters and honestly obsessed with her Scream Tail given how its personality is almost identical to Sango being loud and obnoxious which is a perfect fit honestly!!!
I also wasn’t a fan of how they chose to have Roy’s fight against Sandy Shocks off-screen because what they showed was decent and it does bother me a little of how Roy gets easily distracted against something new he sees, we will just see how the next couple of episodes will play out given its a very good arc for the most part!!! 🤦♀️🥲
I actually have My own names for the paradox Pokémon. Great tusk is Mastadonfan, Scream tail is Paleopuff and Sandy Shocks is Magneanderthal. I have a whole video that goes into the rest of them though it's a smidge outdated since I made it before the paradox versions of the the rest of the legendary beasts and swords of justice were revealed.
Area Zero has four layers, yes? Maybe the lower layers (2-4) could look more mysterious and true to the games in the future? That’s just a speculation.
To be fair visually the first layer isn't anything crazy. I feel like once they go deeper we'll see more of the etheral beauty of Area Zero. I wouldn't be surprised if the next episode they lose to Gouging Fire and the kids get thrown deep into Area Zero maybe to the time machine.
Imagine catching Scream Tail in real life and having to deal with it screaming at you every day for the rest of your life
I think they had Scream Tail in mind when they created Coral's character, she is a human Scream Tail and always has been.
I'm beyond glad Coral caught Scream tail after their funny dynamic and thought the same with how Sandy shocks ended up loving Roy's and Crocalors tune and hope he maybe does catch it later😂🩷🧲🥹😌
Ever since we got the PV showing off Coral and Scream Tail, I thought their designs and personalities matched well together, and was hoping she'd catch it, so I was very happy that she did! I hope Sidian gets a team upgrade too now-- idk if they would show the Ruinous Legends in this series, but I feel his design meshes well with Ting-Lu? (Spinel matches Chien Pao, and Wo Chien fits Chalce.)

I kinda agree with you on how Area Zero in the anime didn't portray the same vibe as it did in the games, but personally it had more to do with the eerie soundtrack than the visuals.
Perhaps if the anime gave off an eerie soundtrack as well, it might've given that otherworldly vibe you wanted.
i absolutely loved the Coral and Screamtail stuff, its a real breath of fresh air and their chemistry is off the charts, this might be my favourite catch of Horizons, i want more pokemon with strong personalities
My only problem of the episode is....
Briar explained to the kids that Paradox Pokemon are very dangerous so don't wander off.

Like if this is a real exploration team, they would let one adult do the scouting, the kids at the middle and another adult covering the rear.
If Roy does end up catching Sandy Shocks, it feels only natural Liko and Dot catch their own.
Out of the possible choices, the logical ones should be Flutter Mane and Brute Bonnet, so that alongside Scream Tail, they possess the 4 Paradox Pokémon used by Sada, minus the lead Slither Wing and ace Roaring Moon.
Which feels fair, as both are different in their own right, having either a Future counterpart or a higher BST.
And since Liko will totally get Meowscarada, Flutter Mane feels better so she doesn't have two Grass/Dark-Types.

ITs too early IF the location will be butchered since we still dont know how many episodes will the area be focuesd on.
BUT i hope that the next episode at least in the start of it we get to see the same Sandy Shocks that Roy battled before will start to follow them but will not be detected eaisly by them which is similar how Ash's Krookodile did when it was a Sandile at the time.

I disagree about Area Zero to an extent, the reason it doesn't feel like the games goes back to the idea that this series takes place after the games and dlc, at that point, pokemon fans and the game characters already know about Area Zero so it makes sense to no longer have that new mysterious feel.
If they don’t get pokeballs, the kids are kinda screwed if their starters immediately get wiped out. I get they have their other Pokemon, but they need more
The anime and games sometimes don’t have trainers with 6 Pokémon and they are battle focused goals not treasure hunters like HZ. I do think liko, Roy, dot will get 4 Pokémon by the end of HZ and they do need to use their second Pokémon more as for Roy 3 what I think it will be is either rayquaza really doubt this definitely with Lucius most likely still alive or a future paradox to carol past paradox but that could also go to sidian or a regular Pokémon with family connections like roy catches a poliwag or his mom poliwhirl that he evolves into politoad. Same for dot I think her 3 Pokémon will be rockruff like her mom and uncle have. While there 4 will be kalos starters that mega evolves liko greninja, roy chestnuaght, dot delphox.

There is already a picture out there with meowscarada and greninja side by side. Also with how HZ is going thru legendary Pokémon it won’t surprise me if we see most or all of them.

Also like I said we already have a picture of meowscarada and greninja going around can’t wait for another PLZA trailer to show we will be getting kalos starters with megas. Don’t know what you dislike about kalos but most fans want most of the new megas to be kalos Pokémon.

Well when you consider that:
1. The Paldea Flying Taxi covers Area Zero.
2. There isn’t any sort of aerial deterrent mechanism in the games/anime around the Great Crater.
You could probably just climb the surrounding mountainside and then rappel down into Area Zero.
I mean you also get into area zero without authorization effortlessly in the games...
Considering her connection to the members of the pokemon league, I think it’s implied (or at the very least makes sense to think) that Briar gets accompanied by some of the elite four members when she goes to area zero. And even then, she probably rarely gets permission to be there.
Everyone (except Liko) has two pokemon. No they can start round 3 😂
Scream Tail fits in with Coral.
These things would even give Ultra Beasts a fight.

Sandy Shocks and Scream Tail are my two favourite paradoxes, so seeing them in one episode making a good impression with the main characters makes me so happy

Some thing I don't like about the episode:
Great Tusks is described as having a stiffer, more robust frame compared to donphan, so it should NOT be capable of rolling up into a wheel like it's modern counterpart.
Area Zero s described as having highly reflective cloud cover and highly reflective crystals that trap light, causing nightime in the crater to be as bright a daytime. You literally couldn't tell day from night in Area Zero.
Why would Briar go to sleep in THOSE Earrings?!
Also, if the anime completely retcons how Paradox Pokemon appear in Area Zero as to completely write out the Zero Lab and the Proferssor, then I'll be REALLY PISSED OFF!!
I thinking that I like this episode but it's Japanese so I'm still waiting for the dub to chase and at least I can rarely watch the Japanese version first of Pokemon Horizons anime before the dub.

Here shortly before this week's episode! Overall, I think it would be cool if each protagonist catches a Paradox Pokemon. Also, it's pretty nice seeing the writers put more emphasis on Coral and the rest of the "bad guys" of the series. It really makes them feel as part of the story, with their own ambitions and goals rather than just generic antagonists.

I on the other hand like this episode. Also, Roy battling Sandyshocks with his Crocalor was good & it was predictable that he didn't catch it. Then, Sango/Coral battling Scream Tail only to then team with it to defeat Great Tusk, catch it out of frustration means she is competent, is more interesting than before. Lastly, I hope Sandyshocks shows up again in the next episode & allows Roy to catch it.

No its not the OG explorers go to both places and don’t call them the same name, area zero is where lystal catches terapagos and we even have a poem that says rakua/laqua is a 100 days and nights away from paldea, so no its not this is a anime only place like all the other anime only places we had in Pokémon.

i feel that episode just set Sango (i dont bother with english names) up to catch screamtail. itd actually be weird if she didnt. And i agree they are perfect for each other. they just match energies so well lol tho i was hoping roy would catch the sandy shocks but the group always acts like they only have one pokemon espcially since they battle as a trio so i not to suprised he didnt either.

In my school vr game there was technically a second Area Zero (it's actually Zero space from Megaman X5) and it is crazy (The Rising Volt Tacklers and Ultra Guardians entered it as they detected 1 large energy signature and 2 very Very powerful energy signatures, which they team up with Megaman X to locate it and the large energy was revealed to be Awakened Zero and the most surprising bit is Terapagos, going into its Tera form and purified Zero, but that's not all, they went to the 2 very Very powerful energy signatures and it was revealed to be Goalius fighting Final Sigma W and due to the fact Goalius is an ancient entity and Sigma is from the Future is insane, the fight between the 2 Titans ended with a clash between Sigma Virus Ray and Goalius using Oblivion Wing and due to the fact that both are equally powerful the blast caused a massive explosion collapsing Zero Space and surprisingly both are live but Goalius got the upper hand and killed Sigma) oh and there was a joke that refenced Paldaia (X: Area Zero Succure Liko: um last I check there's Still Paradox Pokemon there)
Coral skydived into the abyss of death and came out with a copy of herself.

It makes sense for Roy to not get Sandy Shocks, because that Sandy Shocks must be like level 59 or something, and Roy have 0 gym badges so the chances of Sandy Shocks obeying him are very low and take Ash’s Charizard as an example
